Fairview [Drury, Jackie Sibblies] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Fairview Review: A contemporary dramatic masterpiece - Even though the reviews had told me a rug would be pulled from beneath my feet, it didn't prepare me for the shock of this excellent play. I agree that there should have been much more explanation in the script itself for those who have not seen it on stage, but careful reading of this unique masterpiece pays off enormously. I urge you to read the theater reviews on the Vulture and Soho Rep websites. Brava, Jackie Sibblies Drury, for a play that is literally and figuratively transformational. Review: Amazing - To describe it is to give it away—but imagine a representation of what it feels like to be suffocated, and still demand to breathe.

This demands many rereadings.
I am a middle aged white woman. I just finished my first reading of the script and never had the opportunity to see Fairview in production. It’s unusual and compelling and I’m going to have to do more work to envision it in my mind. Once the world returns to normal after the pandemic, I hope to be able to see the play onstage!

Don't Buy This Script Unless You Have Already Seen The Play
Shame on Theatre Communications Group for ineptly publishing this play without any Forward or Introduction to provide context for the reader . Even theater goers receive better context in their Playbills. This play is too visual to understand without context. The cast list mentions names only. Gosh, what I would give to know their racial identities. Then I could focus on the play instead of trying to figure out each character's racial identity. You see, Fairview is all about "white gaze".....how whites cannot avoid seeing blacks through stereotypes that they learned in childhood; and how blacks can never escape the oppressive feeling of being seen through "white gaze" even to the point of altering their own behavior. These are not spoiler alerts. Google: "Review: Notes on Theater - "Fairview"" and you will see a link to the Soho Rep site, If you insist on reading the play before you see it, the aforementioned link will help you to make sense of the text. Otherwise, you may flounder. Fairview is a great play and well deserving of a Pulitzer. This manuscript is a great disappointment. It does nothing to bring the play alive to those who have not, or can not, see it performed live.
