BEST OF A BAD BUNCH
To today's ears, the albums Mistrial and Legendary Hearts are almost unlistenable,. It's a time when Reed attempted to assail the charts from a bunker in a studio somewhere in NYC. He appeared to be sliding casually into a comfortable life, having helped rewrite the rules for rock music in the Sixties and Seventies.New Sensations stands out because while its production values are uber-Eighties, they're applied in a spare style typical of jazz albums of the time. It's easier to go back to than the busy, noisy stuff we got on pop/rock records back then. The deep tone of Fenando Saunders' bass provides a wonderful counterpoint to Reed's chiming guitar.'I Love You Suzanne' is the happiest song of Reed's career, bouncing along and almost bereft of lyrics. 'Red Joystick' might come across as silly at first, yet its sentiment is prescient. 'Doin' The Things That We Want To' is casual and fun.The album's title track is one of Reed's greatest EVER songs, the instruments are spaced in a way that's utterly pleasing to the ears.Ensure you get the remastered version of this album; although older versions still sound good too because so much care was taken with it at the time.

I'd forgotten what a good album this is!!!!
Ths aslbum by Lou is emblematic of Lou in the early 90s. He is in great voice and has a great band behind him. "New Sensations" and "I Love You Suzanne." are two terrific cuts. It was a pleasure to listen to this album again.

LOU......................
Lou Reed always famous for the seemier side of life...suprises and delights with this positive(?) LP and one of my favorite LPS of the 80's....Starting off combining the sounds of the 80's with the unmistakable Lou Reed sound...makes I Love You Suzanne a dance record...Maybe the best unheard pop song of the 80's in Turn to Me...New Sensations, The Things That We Want To, Fly Into the Sun and My Friend George...as good as anything that were Deep Lp cuts in the era...and ending the Lp wit Down at the Arcade...says as much about the culture of the times as anything that anyone has written....Just a joy to listen to....and sets up his masterpiece..."New York"....

Lou Reed New Sensation
I like the CD, but some of the cuts are less familiar to me.It takes me a while to KNOW if I really like a song.I have not played this CD enough, to really evaluate it.Christmas music got in the way.

Fun Sensations
I fell in love with this album when it first came out. Lou is showing a fun and loving life side of himself and after all of these years I still get a kick out of these songs.

Lou Reed!
This album has particular sentimental memories for me so I'm not sure if I'm the best to rate it. All Lou is good and some is great. This is good.

This is a "lost" classic
I have been completing my Lou Reed collection and putting the harder to find, more expensive ones last. This is a wonderful Lou Reed album, probably one of his best, but mainly available as a Japanese Import. For some reason the last few albums from the Eighties (before the "return to glory" of New York) do not seem to have been reissued on CD.I must confess to finding Metal Machine Music relaxing, and Lou is not for everyone, but if you like more than, say, three Lou Reed albums then you will really like this one.I'm not going to do a track by track breakdown or anything actually helpful, but as Kevin Smith might say "Check this out"
