I've polished agates the size of small eggs. It's good to add smaller ones to help polish.

Can this unit handle stainless steel shot? If not, which model would you recommend?

I would think that it could. This unit is very good. I have had no issues with mine. I bought special media for polishing bronze. It worked great.Another option would be one of the heavier duty rotating tumblers.

Is this good for brass cases? I want something heavy duty that will really clean my cartridge cases well.

I've had an Ultra-Vibe 18 for about 25 years and have cleaned many tens of thousands of cartridge cases... It works very well. In fact, it has held up and worked so well that I was surprised to see it is still produced!

What size motor is on this tumbler?

The label reads: 115V 1.6A 60 Hz 3000rpm 1/20 Hp I purchased this to use at the college for my students it tumbles with 15 lbs stainless steel shot and burnishing compound. This is the second one that I now use for 200 students and it works excellently.
