Yup, it WORKS!
i just got it literally 15 minutes ago my time and used it to open a can of peas, a can of cream of mushroom soup, a can of diced carrots and a 16 oz can of tuna...i'm making tuna ala king...it went through the cans like a hot knife through butter. the primary reason i decided to get this was that in the last 3 years, i just realized this, i've spent nearly a hundred dollars on just can openers. can you believe that??? nearly one hundred dollars on stupid can openers that some didn't even make it half way through a can of chicken noodle soup and others that just wore out over a couple of weeks to a couple of months...and NONE of them cost over $10 but every single one was made in the People's Republic of You Know Where. i got fed up with it and decided to "buy once, cry once" with this one by EZ-DUZ-IT. now to the INITIAL review... CONS; It is not "ergo-dynamic". which is just another marketing ploy to add a buck to the price. It is not compact. it's a full sized can opener, not a Swiss Army knife. It is not outfitted in florals, pastels or vibrant colors. put down the Martha Stewart's magazine and nobody gets hurt. PROS; It is really easy to use. like i said earlier, it went through four cans, three 12oz's and one 16oz, like a hot knife through butter. the grip was secure, the rotating handle was EXTREMELY easy to use and i do have the beginnings of arthritis in both hands along with cubital tunal syndrome in my left arm and peripheral neuropathy in both arms. It's not dainty. it's built like a tank and if anything in your kitchen should survive a house fire, earthquake, wild fire, nuke strike, asteroid impact or mostly peaceful protest it should be your can opener. It's "full constructed" as in, the handle "legs" go all the way down and don't just end in a 1/8th or 1/4th inch tab glued into a plastic handle. so this this ends my initial review. i'll be posting a 30 day, 90 day six month and 1 year follow up but as it stands right now, if you are in need of a truly decent quality can opener that will work and not give you the fits over a can of condensed milk then get this one. oh, here's a few FYI's... 1. even though the description says that you can was with warm soapy water, DON'T and NEVER put ANY manual can opener into a dish washer. the best thing to do is to carefully, so as to not injure yourself, wipe down the can opener's contact and cutting surfaces with a clean dry cloth or dish towel. don't use oil. this can cause gumming and interfere with positive contact and lock-up with the can and the can opener. 2. 99.999% of the gunk that gets onto and into your can opener comes from the can. simple solution is to just wipe the can's top with a clean cloth or napkin. if you think that you need to use soap and water or cleaning wipes or sprays on your cans of food, you need to find a new grocery store. 3. don't just throw your can opener into a drawer. remember that this is a CUTTING INSTRUMENT. your $300 chef knife is a cutting instrument, albeit designed to cut different things differently, but it's purpose is to cut. so make a dedicated space/place/spot for it. back when i was a child, there used to be kitchen drawer inserts and these had slots for knives, forks, tablespoons, teaspoons and one wide spot that was too short for knives and forks and too short for spoons. that was because it was the can opener's place. thanks for taking the time to read my review and i hope the information i gave helps.

Wonderful can opener.
As others have noted, this is as close as one can get to an original, US-made Swing--Away as possible. It's so fast and easy that I don't know what use my (also awesome) Hamilton Beach electric opener has for me anymore. Pros: Opens cans with ridiculous ease. It pierces the can effortlessly. The crank handle is both huge and easy to grip; someone with very little hand strength can open a can very painlessly with this. (I tend to grab the handle more toward the center because it is faster and my hands are strong. It's a win, both ways.) Handles are appropriately-soft, and should come off easily for serious cleaning. I do not expect the rubber/plastic handles to fail in my lifetime. Made in USA, by presumably original tooling. Cons: It's much heavier than a P-38, so I won't be taking it backpacking. (But then, there aren't many/any can openers lighter than a P-38.) Other thoughts: It's just a can opener, right? But we've all struggled with bad can openers. This replaces a more-expensive Farberware opener of similar design that I got from a local store about a year ago. The Farberware worked reasonably well when it was new, but recently failed to grip the rim of the can without a fight, and it never worked as well as this EZ-Duz-It. And a rebuttal to others reviewers: The only consistent complaint I've seen about this can opener (and the few other identical-ish US-made ones which are on Amazon, which all presumably come from the same factory) is that sometimes, the crank-handle gets locked up with rust. Some people seem to give up on it at this point, while others apply something like WD-40 and get it to turn freely again (but are often afraid to use it on food after that, because...chemicals). Here's my take: It will probably only rust to that extent if you're washing it obsessively, which probably isn't needed. The can opener started off being a scoop of iron ore. It was refined with fire and chemistry into steel, and eventually rolled into a sheet, which was eventually stamped into a form, which was eventually chrome plated using...chemicals. Chemicals and oils and other unmentionable substances at every step of the way. After it is assembled it is then washed (with solvents [more chemicals!] and/or soap and water) and packaged for sale. So. If/when my can opener seizes, I'll simply go to the garage and use a penetrating oil or WD-40 or maybe just some phosphoric acid (see also: the ingredients list on the cola in your fridge) and apply it to the rusted parts. Once it frees up, which it doubtless will, I'll give it a few dozen turns in both directions to abrade away most of the rust. And then I'll soak it with Dawn dish soap for a bit, and give it a few dozen more underwater turns to work the -chemicals- out of the innards. After that, I'll rinse it well and let it dry completely -- ideally, outside on a warm and sunny day. Then I'll apply some vegetable/canola/olive/whatever oil from the cupboard, or food-grade mineral oil if I have some, wipe down the surface with a dry rag, and keep using it in the kitchen for another bunch-a more years. It's a fool's mission to worry about the chemicals: Just wash them away if it bothers you. It's important to maintain our steel kitchen tools properly and I suspect that, like good cast iron, this can opener will only get better with age.

Your search ends here...this is the best option in manual can openers money can buy...period.
OK...so yes...it looks basic...does not have a bulbous, cushy turn handle and for the most part looks just like any other crappy can opener that will fail like every single other can opener ever made available on the market...why cause basically thats all that exists right? We've tried them all and every time we buy one it ends up failing sooner or later and usually sooner than later and with absolutely no satisfaction during the term it actually is in service. Fact of the matter is they all operate for 'you know what'....But NOโฆnot this time! If you are reading this review that means your life search for the very best can opener known to man has finally ended...right here and now! This things rocks balls, as hard as a can opener can rock!! From the very moment you begin using this device it oozes satisfaction. For starters its made rock solid......the action on the levering is short and sweet....and the turn handle is long and accurate. From the moment you place it on a can it just falls into place and snaps right down and through the top lid with ease and directness. As you turn the handle it cuts with precision and a smoothness that is unimaginable in any can opener ever to be made. To be honest this is like the holy grail of can openers. And mind you when I use the word 'smoothness' I mean it...i mean this thing is as smooth as silk. As you start to turn through the cut, it slices through the lid metal with total ease and efficiency creating an experience that is not only fast and satisfying but in fact elating! Within seconds, which seemingly puts all other attempts at efficiency by other can opener so far back in the list of considerations, your experience will be mind blowing and you will quickly ponder at how much time you have wasted in life getting through opening all those cans of the past! This is truly the Mac Daddy of all can openers. Every single household should come standard with one of these. Itโs totally American and totally right! And for sure why wouldn't it be ...its made in America to begin with. All seriousness on hand...it is the absolute best can opener you'll ever buy! And honestly, if you don't feel that way once yoโve had a chance to try it out then you probably shouldn't be messing with cans and should probably stick to microwave dinners and cracker jacks. Put those cans away before you hurt yourself and leave the hard work to the men and women who know and appreciate the right kind of kitchen tools we know, need and use for getting the job done right. Efficiency, sleekness, comfort, precision, repeatability and the essence of true professional experience...this can opener has it all...and IS the ALL when it comes to can opening. Now go and get yourself one and be done! Side Note: This is one of those products were if there was a 6th star this product would be getting it.

Literally the best can opener I've ever owned!
I am not exaggerating when I say this is, without a doubt, the best can opener I've ever owned. The grips are a good size, the handle is a good comfortable size, the blade is sturdy and durable. It snaps right onto cans and just goes. It's even priced well. There's no reason not to get it.

Best can opener I've ever used
It looks similar in design to the faberware can opener that it replaced (that one was more ergonomic looking, though) - but, the big difference is I always felt I was fighting with my old can opener. It was hard to turn and awkward in the hand, while this one is smooth, smooth, smooth. I think it may be the gear ratio or a slightly longer handle, but whatever the magic is this is a superior product. It latches easily and securely to the edge of the can, and spins with very, very little effort. I recommend this can opener to everyone, but I would think someone with arthritis or other hand ailment or strength issue could benefit from this opener specifically.

Good Opener
Works great, we'll see how long it lasts. Would recommend hand washing/drying right away. Miss the magnet on my old opener.

O-M-G!
I do not have much use for can openers and that is why I was willing to put up with my quirky electric can opener. I couldn't find a replacement electric that had great reviews and looked as nice on the counter. I considered a handheld for a long time, but was hesitant, because I was afraid that I would not be strong enough to use it. I have back issues that the slightest little pressure can sometimes cause a world of hurt and also dealing with a hand that I had crushed most of the bone in that healed well, but can be acutely painful at times. I'm also a lefty, uncoordinated as all get out and was not sure if this would work for me. Previous experience years ago with those little skinny ones with a butterfly turn knob had been a disaster. The low price and all the positive reviews convinced me to order the EZ-DUZ-IT Deluxe Can OPener with Black Grips. I am so glad that I did. This piece is a piece that is built to last, an all too rare commodity nowadays. It is a weighty piece without being cumbersome. It fits well even into my small "fun size" hands. It takes little effort to complete the job. I am thoroughly impressed with this can opener. I received the can opener after having a flare up with my hand. Although I was not experiencing the acute pain I had, my hand was still fragile and sore. I was able to open a can with minimal additional discomfort. I do not believe that any other can opener would have produced any better result. I definitely know that it was less effort and pain than using the electric can opener I had. I was so impressed with the EZ-DUZ-IT after the first test use that I immediately unplugged my electric & chucked it in the trash. I have the EZ-DUZ-IT for awhile, but only used it a handful of times. It washes up well by hand or in the dishwasher. There have been a few occasions where I had to cease cooking and get off my feet right away, which led to the EZ-DUZ-IT not being cleaned by hand right away and that was okay. Everything stays really clean. More so than with the electrics. It is a breeze to clean. I threw it in the dishwasher to see how the metals would react and if it would hamper the ease in which it performed. Happy to say it still works brill! I would have no hesitation to throw in the dishwasher, but there really isn't any need, as this cuts smoothly and cleanly. I can highly recommend this to any and all, but especially to those who may suffer from arthritis or limited mobility/dexterity in their hands. This is as good as you are going to get. I can say in all honesty that the EZ-DUZ-IT would still be my number 1 pick over a not so quirky electric opener. This may seem silly to many of you reading, but for those with less than perfect health it makes sense.... you don't even have to lift the can up! Yes, sometimes even lifting an average size tin can send someone in a world of hurt. With the electric you have to lift your can and gosh forbid if it is a family size can of anything, which can be plain awkward no matter what your health is. With the EZ-DUZ-IT I see no need for an electric, unless you are going to be opening copious amounts of cans all at one time. I couldn't be more thrilled. Plan on purchasing more for gifts and my emergency kit... I never want to be without my EZ-DUZ-IT!

The best can opener I have ever used
I have gone through so many cheap, horrible can openers over the years, ever since I lost the one I had which was made in the 90's. Pretty much everything these days (appliances, tools, etc) is cheap and falls apart after a couple years. I have longed for a can opener that just... opened freaking cans. Well-- this is it. It's built the way things were built before the 2000's-- chiefly, to last. I saw several reviews online and decided to give it a shot, and was not disappointed. It pierces the can easily, and for me at least is easy to turn. If you have arthritis you might want the style with the "crank" or just resign yourself to buying an electric can opener every few years. But otherwise, this is the type of can opener you pass onto your children in your will. It's hefty, all metal, and does what it's actually supposed to do. I noticed some people mentioned rust-- this is going to happen with any can opener, and the solution is simple: rinse the blade and gear area briefly, then open it up and let it air dry on the counter. I don't really care if the body rusts, I just don't want the blade assembly to rust. Quick side note: this company is apparently the only company that makes manual can openers in the US anymore, and in fact bought the equipment (and even the factory?) from Swing-a-way when that company sold out and moved to China. EZ-DUZ-IT's entire marketing strategy seems to be that it's made in the US. Which is fine, but they plaster that message over the packaging to a comical degree. I think a better marketing strategy is to describe how it's made the way we USED to make things in the US, that is, made to last and not be replaced every 2-3 years. Anyway, if you've read this far, just spend the money and buy the dang thing. You won't regret it.
