while it offers easy installation and claims to provide advanced engine protection and optimal performance, I found that it didn't quite match up to the performance of the OEM filter in terms of filtration.

Good filter easy to install. Takes all of 5 minutes to install. These do fit my KIA 2020 Sportage. I drive a lot, averaging 800 miles per week personally and as an Uber driver. I change my air filters, including cabin, every three months. Fram is a well know and respected name in the industry. If you would like to save some cash, one way is to learn how to change the air filter. The cabin filter is a bit more involved.

This Fram air filter looks like a good quality replacement. I haven't had it in the car long enough to comment on its effectiveness, but being a Fram product, I'm assuming it will work as designed. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 Star rating is that the filter will be harder to remove than the original. The "original" type filter uses two levers on the front (facing you after the install) that flip up to "lock" and down to "unlock". In the unlocked position the filter slides in/out easily. This Fram filter utilizes a "spring" mechanism on both sides of the filter that requires some effort to push into the slot. It certainly holds the filter securely in place, but I suspect it will also take some effort to encourage the filter to come out of the slot!
