Some Kind of Hero

Richard Pryor was a brilliant comedian and a very good actor, but he was hard to write for or cast. Part of this was because the studios hadn't a clue what to do with his personality, his background and his drug problems. Another part was because he had things to say, and strove to say them, and that really made the studios uncomfortable. This film is one where they let him tell the story, and the story is both familiar and horrible. A veteran of the Vietnam War who was taken prisoner and had to make terrible choices to protect his fellow prisoners is freed after the war ends, and discovers that his choices have horrible consequences. The movie sets that forth very clearly, and then shows how he deals with setback after setback. The only thing that keeps me from giving a five-star rating is that the movie oversimplifies the second half. The cast is excellent, and Pryor makes you feel every moment of the story. Highly recommended.

It was nice to see RP again however it was not a Hear no Evil/See no Evil type of comedy. There was a only few comedic moments however we found it more of a lite drama.The mention of how this movie reflects on how soldiers tend to be treated by both the government and public is a sad reality. The government bureaucracy and red tape is but a sad fact which is only compounded by politicians creating "thinking groups" or more 'boards' in an attempt to find solutions only to be side lined by further bureaucracy. POW Eddie keeps getting screwed over or passed on over and over in this movie.The movie wasn't what we expected but at least it was a treat to see Margot Kidder in lingerie, she had a rockin' bod and great hips.Richard Pryor had some great movies and solid stand-up, a true classic comedian, sadly missed.

This is a funny movie. Good for sad times.

This is a average movie not one of Richard Pryor best but it okay for family quality time .

This movie was great. It shows how very dimensional Richard Pryor was. RP was a comedic genius, but this film shows that he was also superb actor. He was the epitome of success as it pertains to Hollywood and there will never be another. This video was a heaping helping of reality, sprinkled with Pryor comedy to help with digestion. Thank you for your wake up calls that are relevant to this day. R.I.P. Richard Pryor

Touches on some real issues with servicemen returning home without being too pushy with its message. It's a light enough movie that it can't really be hated or loved, it just is.

Movie was ok nothing special. It says it is a comedy and being Richard Pryor I expected it to be one but it absolutely wasn't. I thought maybe it was meant to be a black comedy but it really didn't hit the mark for that either. Not really sure what genre it was aiming at cause it really missed them all. Something to watch if ur bored but I wouldn't put it high on your list

Not saying this movie is one of my faves js its classic the way movie's are meant to be done not this millennial crap that passes for movie's these day.
