I have been using safflower seeds for 25 years , bought in 50 lb bags. All of a sudden they shun the feeder. What is going on?

I've been feeding my back yard birds the same brand of safflower seeds for years. I bought these seeds because they were less expensive in bulk, and all of a sudden - nothing. No one ate them. But only for the first week or so. After several days, they got used to the new seeds and started emptying out the feeder as usual.

This past spring I have 4-6 squirrels eating this stuff. Haven't had this problem in the past. Are you adding something different?

Not different, just some Squirrels eat it. We had a 75% reduction in them eating it over using sunflower seeds. Unfortunately I think more young ones learn to accept it as a food source.

Do these have shelled?

Birds eat Safflower seed,. The birds do not remove a shell.
