Great for beginners
Good read for beginners, I learned to cook Indian using this book. I bought this book years ago and it was extremely helpful. Not only are the recipes there, but there's also a section on spices and ingredients. Very helpful to the Western cook who might not be familiar with some of the ingredients. There's also a good bit of information about technique. There's a wide range of different dishes in here.

My favorite book on Indian cooking.
The book has a great introduction describing ingredients and how the dishes are built. It has a simple homestyle curry recipe to get started with then moves into more complicated dishes. I used to cook with store bought spice mixes and this book has been very helpful to move away from those. Some of the recipes call for more water than needed, just use common sense there.

Delicious recipes!
This cookbook has some delicious recipes! A lot of these recipes have ingredients in them that aren’t in just any grocery store. So if you don’t live somewhere with an ethnic foods market your recipe options might be limited.

Probably great if you want lamb curry recipes
The book contains a lot of recipes that are meat heavy (so if you like Indian food for the vegetarian side of things, this isn't for you). I'm married to a S. Asian man, and have been making South Asian food- using various books and websites - for 30 years and have to admit this book's recipes create flavor profiles I just don't like. I've carefully followed the directions, and (for example) the palak paneer tasted muddy; the sauteed cabbage included no ingredient that made it taste like anything except, well, sauteed cabbage. The Butter chicken was far too tomato heavy, and even the proportions for the bread dough seemed odd. I'm not a fan of lamb, and as 18 out of the "50" recipes are for lamb curries, I'll be giving this one to the charity shop.

My go-to first choice book on Indian cooking
Love this book, especially the section "The curry picture" a valuable refence chart of all the ingredients needed for various curries. Great recipes, fun to read, great photos. A well-used and well-loved book in our library.

This is a tiny book. It is false advertising. So angry.

As an experienced cook I have found this one of the best curry recipe books I have come across. Each recipe comes with a short introductory explanation; they are authentic with interesting combinations such as plumb, turnip and watermelon. Follow the instructions which are clear and simple and the recipes work well. Having tried most of the recipes I am happy to give a 5 star rating, although the butter chicken is disappointing and there are a few typos (far too much water added to dahl). I was so impressed with this book I have given a number of copies to friends as gifts.

This is a great cook book especially if you are gifting it to someone who is new to Indian cooking. I own a copy of this and then decided to gift it to my friends as well as it was so useful to me. The recipes are clearly defined and turn out great. I also like the introduction where different spices and cooking methods are explained.
