Lunette Menstrual Cup - Reusable Period Cup – Medical-Grade Silicone

This is my second cycle using the lunette and I have to say that it definitely beats tampons any day. I have a normal to light flow and I'm fairly petite so I was tempted to order the smaller model 1, but I'm 31 with two kids so I trusted other reviews and the company's suggestion and ordered the larger size model 2 anyway. I don't have anything to compare it to, but the size seems fine. I wanted to try a menstrual cup because I hate pads (feels like a diaper), but because my flow is pretty light, tampons tend to kind of dry me out and be irritating. I can only wear them on my heaviest days. Not to mention the benefit of not having to buy and throw away all those disposable menstrual products anymore. I chose the Lunette after doing lots of research and comparing it the best I could to other brands. For me, it pretty much came down to the Diva cup or the Lunette, but I liked that the Lunette seemed easier to clean (larger holes around the rim, solid stem, smooth inside, fewer overall markings, and a smooth rim). It's also shorter than the Diva cup, and though I didn't know it at the time, shorter is probably a better fit for me. All of my expectations have been met in the Lunette. It is definitely a quality, well-made cup and worth the price. Even though the Diva cup is less expensive, the Lunette is a better fit for me, personally. Lunette even sent me a message after ordering to make sure the cup was working out for me which was nice. It seemed as if they would have helped me out if I was having trouble or needed a different size, though it never came to that in my case. They seem like a really great company. It did take some practice to get used to the cup, so don't give up! It really is worth the effort of figuring it out. Here's how the process went for me.... On the first day of my first cycle with the cup, I never quite figured out how to get it in there comfortably and eventually just gave up and used a tampon. On the next day, I tried again. I could get it inserted and opened correctly, but it wasn't comfortable and felt like it was pinching me. One time I even managed to insert it so that it was pressing on my bladder, which was terribly uncomfortable. I finally realized that the stem was too long and cut it shorter. This changed the game! After that, I was able to wear it comfortably and I only felt it occasionally like I would a tampon. I even cut the stem shorter one more time, but I still had to readjust it once in a while if it shifted lower and started poking me again. I've come to the realization that I must have a low cervix. Now I'm on my second cycle with the cup. I mustered up the courage to cut the stem off completely and WOW. I don't feel it at all now. SO comfortable! The grip on the bottom of the cup is very easy to grab so the stem isn't really necessary. I just wanted to make SURE I was good at removing it before I cut it all the way off. So glad I finally did! I'm sure it's a little different for everyone, but a few things I've learned that have helped ME so far are: -For inserting the cup, I like the "punch down" fold as opposed to the "c fold" suggested by Lunette. I highly suggest looking up some videos on YouTube that show you how to fold and insert the cup different ways. This helped me a lot. -Whatever way you fold it, try to position the fold so that it pops open facing DOWN (away from your belly). The "pop" is less startling and less uncomfortable in this position. Likewise when removing the cup, pop the bottom edge out first as if to pour the contents out. -It's easiest for me to insert and remove while sitting reclined on the toilet. -Most importantly, the stem is unnecessary (and for me the cup is much more comfortable without it)! A menstrual cup is a pretty intimidating idea in the beginning, but really, if you're willing to stick it out through the "learning stage" then you will not regret it at all!

I just finished my first cycle using this Lunette cup and thought it'd be a good time to post a review. Overall Experience: On the day I knew my period was coming, I was able to put the cup in and leave in all day just in case! It was great not having to worry about it or checking all the time to see if it was time to put a tampon in. On the second day, when it had actually started flowing, I wore the cup for about 6-7 hours and it worked great! No leaks at all! I was like WOW, do I already have this down? (I read A LOT of reviews and most said there is a learning curve, which I do agree with, but I was surprised at how easily I got it!) On the third day, which is probably my heaviest, I wore the cup for about 9 hours and it didn't leak once again! I was still so surprised. On the fourth day, this is when it all changed. This day is heavy too and a few hours after putting it in, it didn't feel quite right down there so I checked it out and it leaked! Yes leaked! I was freaked out because I was at work and there was blood everywhere (sorry, TMI). Since I was freaked out I wasn't able to reinsert it so for the time being I had to put a tampon in (which I hated doing, I could already tell the difference and I hated it!) On the last day, I was determined to make it work again since it worked so well in the beginning... And it did! I wore it for 11 hours with no leaks at all. Woohoo! Insertion/Removal: So far I have found the recommended "C" fold to work best for me even though it is a little wide (I am not a virgin so that may help). It pops open really easy! Plus I don't feel it at all, it's SO much more comfortable than a tampon. I ran 2 times while the cup was in and it worked great still but it did work itself up pretty far and at first I freaked out but did the "bearing down" technique and it wiggled down. To remove it I just always pinch the bottom and wiggle it and then take it out. So I never had a problem removing it or it getting stuck. I also never found it too terribly messy. Seal/Position: So the key is to get it in the correct position and to make sure it is "sealed". I am pretty sure the day it leaked I accidentally inserted it too far up and it wasn't sealed all the way. So it should sit LOW! I still have the stem on mine (doesn't bother me!) and it does stick out a little or you can feel it right inside. It is hard to turn it completely to seal it, I just tend to wiggle it up and down and make sure it's open (sometimes it feels flat to me but still works!) and then I tug on the stem and if it doesn't budge then it's sealed! I recommend wearing a liner at first just in case (that's what I did) and eventually once I get the technique down 100% I will stop wearing a liner. I still give this cup a 5 star rating even though I did have that bad leaking experience because overall it was so great! I will never go back to tampons!

Wow! Can I just say wow?! I bought this cup after my last cycle because I felt I was having issues with my Lena. I converted to cups in July of this year and Lunette is the very first cup I purchased except I bought a size 2 because I wanted to see how much I would bleed because from using pads and tampons I was under the impression I bled quite a lot, nope! I have a light to normal flow but loved using a cup for the first time and since I was an average bleeder I looked into finding another cup after my first cycle with the size 2. I thought to myself to just buy a lunette small but I ended up purchasing the Lena cup and I have used that cup since August and I purchased the Lunette small at the beginning of this month and decided to use this on my second day and I was stunned at how bomb this worked for me compared to the Lena. The suction is powerful and it stays on your walls all night with no leaking whatsoever. It feels freaking amazing, ans its super comfortable I don't even feel its there and I said to myself why didn't I just buy the Lunette small months ago because this is the experience your supposed to feel when using a menstrual cup. I did not feel this way with Lena, for months I wondered if I was inserting my Lena cup wrong, wondering why it would move sideways and why it felt to be so much work and turns out just from using my Lunette small that it wasn't the right cup for my body. I woke up the next day with my Lunette and saw I did not leak at all and I knew then that I have my goldilocks cup now forever so I threw my Lena away! If you are similar as me I'd go with the Lunette! Lunette is a little more softer but you should not have a hard time getting it open because it has a good amount of firmness. I have been using the 7 fold and its working! Once its open just tug on the stem you should feel a resistance thats how you know it has suctioned and if you have removed the stem you can still tug on the bottom to feel if the seal is secure. Also for new cup users when you put your menstrual cup in I reccomend squatting then you put it in straight back not up or to the sides just a straight line to the back once your get it past your pubic bone then you can release it. It will open but if it didn't open all the way just pinch the base and see if that helps if not then re-insert with a different fold. Put A Cup In It on youtube has videos on the different folds you can use to insert your cup. Also to make sure its open all the way you DO NOT need to run your "fingers around the rim" just simply feel with two fingers at the base and lightly press and if its feels full evenly then its open all the way. Once the suction is formed it will not break or move so you can do anything and you will feel airy and light thats how you know everything is in place perfectly! For the longest I thought I needed a firmer cup because my first cup was the Lunette size 2 and it is firm and I remembered hearing a pop noise when I would insert it and I knew it was open I felt a firmer cup would be easier for me, the Lena cup is firm but it did not work for me like the Lunette small did so definetly check this cup out! It may take some time to get your cup open but with the right fold this won't really be an issue, it is totally worth it and doesn't take long at all! 💜

I previously tried the Dutchess Cup and had such a hard time reaching and breaking the seal to get it out that I ended up in the ER. =/ not to bash the cup at all—I just think everyone is different and it was also my very first time trying a menstrual cup. Despite the scary experience last month, I was ready to jump back on the horse this time around because I refused to run away scared from such a neat thing. Lunette has a longer, grippy stem and the base of the cup is much more grippy. Seriously, I love how easy it is to retrieve this cup even when my hands get wet. It’s also more firm than the last cup I tried and has awesome suction release holes. For these reasons, this cup has been eons easier for me to use. It’s maybe a little more challenging to insert it, but it only ever took me 30 seconds to a minute tops once I got a little more comfortable with the process. It opens pretty easily for me with the punch down fold. (Update 3-16-18: It’s a month later and I recently started using the 7/triangle fold. It’s so easy to insert!!) I just have to make sure I get it in past my pubic bone and I feel a strange, but not uncomfortable pressure when it pops open. I also hear a little slurp noise when it opens as well as when I break the seal to take it out. I’ve learned to like the sound because it means I’m doing something right! Even when the cup shifted up a bit while I slept I was able to lean back, relax, and feel the stem the next morning (which is a huge comfort for a new cup user) bear down a little, and eventually break the seal (super easy compared to the last cup I used) and work it out. Going calmly and slowly has been the key, but so far so good! If you are a beginner, don’t expect to whip the cup out in a few seconds every time. Sometimes it will take a few minutes of moving very gently and slowly. Work with your body, not against it. A note on performance because people might want to know haha. I am new to cups, so I did reach down and find a bloody stem 2 times, but I feel that when I really took my time to make sure it opened completely and that there was a seal I had no leaks at all. I wore it all night with no leaks! Woo! If I continue to have a few leaks even after getting the hang of this cup thing I will update my review, but I really am not willing to blame the Lunette because there is quite a learning curve here! Update on the leaking 3-16-18: I am now on my next cycle with the cup. I am only one day in and today (day 2) will be the heavy day. So far no leaks at all!! I love being able to wear this at night. It is SO much more comfortable than a pad and so much less to worry about than a tampon.

8/17: bought a clear one for wanted a dye free one and this time i didn’t buy it from Amazon themselves like i did purple one. bought it from a seller with 100% feedback for less and well not saying seller is selling copycats (at least not knowingly) but, this one has a weird scented like chemical/rubber smell. like it was soaked in some kind of liquid that has a slight scent which absorbed into cup permanently for even after washing it with cup cleaner and boiling it for 20 mins twice, the smell is still there! there was no real smell on my purple one when i received it other than packaging smell that went away after washing and boiling it so i don’t believe this is normal at all.. check and boil your cup before you cut off stem so you can return it if still stinks like this, i didn't and now am stuck with a cup i will not use. this is my 4th cup in one week and i have ordered one more brand today (juju) which that one will more than likely be my last cup since it is the longest, has no irritating ridges on stem like this lunette cup has and it has the perfect firmness of 4 like this lunette cup has.. In the end after starting out with a soft & small cup and moving on up through the firmness and sizes, this lunette model 2 cup was the best fit for me in firmess and the length size (2.80" including stem) was better than others & acceptable even though it still rode up in me a tad bit farther than i like BUT it has one major drawback (for me), them making the stem flat with rough ridges, meant to be there for a better grip (which definitely works at that), overlooked the fact that those rough ridges would irritate a lot of us women down there who aren't perfectly straight in there or swell up, the stem feels like sandpaper when it rubs/pokes against your wall (especially when you sit).. Because of that squared flat ridge stem (which i cannot cut off since i need to keep it long since cups ride up in me), this cup turns out to be the most unconfortable of all the cups, yet it is my favorite for it is the best fitting one and i was totally in love with it upon first use because i used the C-fold (which doesn't work well with the softer cups - the fold down works best with those) and started putting it in and loosen my grip a little too early and it went halfway in crooked, yet i was able to keep pushing it in and it popped open just like that ---no pushing around cup needed, no sticking finger up there like i was digging for gold or something, no twirling 360 and no having to take cup back out 3-5 times on average because it just wouldn't close up no matter what (that part with first cup almost made me say the heck with this after a 15min bathroom time that made me want to throw a fit but, i went straight online afterwards and bought the aneer cup sterilizer thing that came with 2 cups so i would not give up)... this Lunette ci- really was the easiest cup of them all to insert, it truly does pop open in there easily even if swelled up in there and for that alone, this cup is worth every penny IF stem doesn't end up bothering you or if it does you don't mind cutting it off if your cervix isn't higher up)!! With that said, i am pretty sure when the JUJU #3 cup gets here it will be my last cup and more than likely it will be the best for 'my' body and my sanity, if by chance it is not, than i will deal with the stem on this lunette (maybe the rough edges can be rounded off anna cup: small - firmness i think is a 1 or 2, way TOO SOFT to pop open in you. aneercup: small & large - firmness 3 (the large is pretty good, do like this one better then lunette but, firmness of lunette is best) this purple lunette model 2 cup - firmness 4 (soft yet stiff) my next cup JUJU 3 high pelvic - firmness 4 (Longest cup available i believe, 3.07" including stem) -the one important thing i learned in my menstrual cup adventure is DO NOT buy menstrual cups with a firmness under 3, they will make you irritable and cause leaks for they do not open up very easily and the tricks given by others do not work well on those!! -I think the aneercup sterilizer machine with the 2 cups (SM & L) for $30 something is a better choice than one lunette for beginners, firmness is in middle, its comfy all around and it closes up decently (not automatically like this lunette though), usually 2 tries max and i had it in perfectly. once you get the hang of it, you will know; which size cup is best for you, whether you need to move on to a brand with a shorter cup or a longer cup, wether you need a cup that holds more fluids, and wether you need a softer or firmer cup (if you swell up & are tight down there, firmer is better, the softer cup just get squished up and are a pain to get opened in there and will leak).. UPDATE 4/18: yikes i wrote a book above instead of a review!! Anyhow, raised rating from 4 stars to 5 stars, i fixed the scratchy grip rings around stem by trimming them all off with my 'cuticle cutter' (gets closer than a nail clipper) and rounded off the stem end sides so corner of it doesn't poke on my sides. now stem feels smooth but, still has hairline grip rings around stem and i now love it..

I wanted to buy the lunette cup because I wanted life on my period to be easier, for example I hate being at the beach and having to walk back to my hotel when I am on my period on vacation. I hate having to change tampons, and I often forget to bring them with me anyway. I liked that you can wear it for a long time and not worry about taking it out. There were a few things that happened during my first period that left me crying in the bathroom thinking of anyone to call to dig this thing out of my snatch. And no, I am not shy when it comes to digging down there. I use nuva ring bc, so I did not think taking it out would be hard at all. But boy let me tell you that suction inside of you makes it so hard to pull out and I need to share these tips because it went from me thinking I will never wear this again to its great and you just need to learn what to do in tough situations. tip 1: do not cut that little nipple string thing when you first try it if it feels too long. I made this mistake, I put it in once and could feel the tip thing and so I took it out and cut it to the next notch (it has little grip things I cut to the next one). Then after wearing it for a little bit I did not thing about it migrating upwards, and needing that part to be longer. Now, I cut my nails and my finger tips were raw from playing guitar so when I went to dig it out, I pulled and pulled and my fingers just kept slipping and I could not even grip with my nails. My fingers were burning from trying to take it out for 15 minutes, when I had a grip on it and pulled the suction was so intense I just couldn't. And they say you should pinch the cup to release the pressure, it is too high up for me to grab it with my fingers, and the one time I was able to do it, it did not even work. But there was a solution to this... tip 2: THEY ARENT LYING ABOUT THE KEGELS! After crying in the bathroom for 15 minutes, I decided to read the reviews again and forgot about people who said kegels. It came out so easily. It pushed it out enough for the cup part to actually be exposed and I could grab that rather than the string part. It came out in the first try. Do the damn kegels if you are unable to get it out. I will now do kegels every single time. tip 3: At first, the cup "inflated" as soon as I put it in. I started having the problem of it staying folded when I put it in. They say to feel the base of the cup with your finger, and it is obvious when it is not inflated. I kept taking it in and out and having the same problem. I found the only solution is to pull it halfway out and kind of wiggle it to let air get up there and I felt it pop right open and I just pushed it back up and I was fine. Weird because I did not have this issue at first at all. The first few times felt easy but I ran into these problems that made me so upset so I had to share solutions. After solving my problems, I love it. Never buying tampons again, not worrying about changing it all throughout the day, I never worry about bleeding through because you just dont. And when you see the amount of blood that comes out condensed in a cup, you realize it really is not that much. Another bonus is that its eco friendly, but that does not compared to how much healthier it is and I love that. I got the smaller one because I am 18 and I knew the big one would be difficult and I just do not need a big one. It was actually smaller than I imagined, and when you put it in if you squeeze it then fold it (there are many different folds I prefer the first one it tells you) it is nearly the size of a tampon. Just imagine putting in a rubber tampon with no applicator. And no, I do not feel it at all!! There were times where it felt like it was giving me awful cramps, I am not sure if it was the cup or my period. I do not usually get cramps so I want to blame the cup, but my period was much heavier than it had been in months so I do not want to blame it. Throughout the day its as comfortable as a tampon. I expected taking it out to be messy but not at all it stays perfectly in the cup and I just pour it out. and after 10 hours of heavy bleeding, the cup was not even half full so I know I never have to worry about it leaking. I wash mine with summers eve pH balanced wash, and sometimes I just wash it with antibacterial handsoap if that is not around. I figured if I am rinsing it with water so hot that it hurts my hand I am sure it all goes away. So just remember the tips. Never forget the kegels, and you will love it. I thought "oh how could I change this in public bathrooms" then when I got it I realized, no need to change it! I can wait till I get home. I change it once in the morning and once a few hours before bed then one more time before bed (just because I prefer cleaning it when I shower but I really would not have to). So good luck, and do not be afraid to be digging in your snatch. It is yours and if you want this to work well you gotta grow some balls. Enjoy never buying tampons again! *TMI********and yes, it is uncomfortable pooping with this in. I had to say that. I take it out in that event.

Can not wear for along time because of the stiffness, blood doesn't seem to flow down as easy as store brandm. Year now with this product. Thank you

Used my original one for nearly the full 10 years before I noticed boiling wasn't keeping a smell away. Read that if the cup retains a stink the silicone has degraded and need to get new, so that's what I did! Stem is easy to trim down. For those new to the cup there's a small learning curve, took me mayve a cycle or two to fully acclimate but I will never go back to tampons or pads! No leaks. Comfortable. Huge money saver lol. Makes me feel better having it inside than chemical laden pads /tampons. Better for environment. And a weird, delightful outcome - it brought me closer to my body? Being able to see the quality of what's coming out to keep and eye on health was a cool bonus.

I really wanted to like this but it just did not work for me. It leaked significantly each time I tried and the pressure was uncomfortable. I did try adjusting but to no avail. Was very tricky getting it in place and messy when it came out.

I read lots of reviews and thoughts on which cups were recommended and safe etc as I wanted to ditch the tampon and pads that I have become quite guilty about using given the impact on the environment etc. But naturally back in school, years ago these never existed so it was quite a scary concept being bold enough to not only trust the product that I was to insert in to myself but also have faith that it was going to do the job! I’m in my 30s, never had children and do get what I would describe as a moderate to heavy flow. I also have an iud coil and was unsure really how I’d feel about having a cup in there. Firstly the packaging is simple and all recyclable. It comes with a small cotton bag for storing and carrying discreetly. The instructions are not extensive but I don’t think they need to be. On receipt of your cup you are advised to boil in water for 10 mins to ensure it is utterly Sterile and ready for first use (when it’s cooled naturally) Having used size 2 over the course of several months now I feel happy to review. Firstly getting it in: the instructions give you a few illustrated examples of how you might find it best to insert. I find it easiest to pinch in half with some smart finger work! To be honest there isn’t really an ‘easy’ way of going about getting it in, but I do think you can help yourself out by getting the most access. Your First go is most definitely easiest straight after a shower. You’re clean and you can crouch in ‘frog position’ for easiest access. I’m right handed so find it easier to pinch fold the cup in half just below the rim in the centre whilst using the v on my left index fingers to help widen as right hand guides! Don’t be alarmed if It makes its own way north, this is normal and actually the further north the better! If your pinch fails, brace! this may make you jump. But keep breathing as this will help relax those muscles! The rim causes a vacuum which is how it holds in so well throughout the time you have it in. If you have the stem and some cup sticking ‘out’ then it is not in far enough. It might feel momentarily fine whilst your in frog but it won’t once your stood! I find the best way of encouraging it further north is to slip one finger down the back of the cup (inside) gently press the rim toward the other side of the rim (this will widen the cup inside but create air flow out of you in order for the cup to be moved up inside further. Once the cup is completely inside and the stem is mostly in, release the finger and the vacuum will resume. I find it’s in place when you can only really feel the very tip of the stem when stood up. I would not cut the stem as there will be times when you need to coax it down before you can get it out. if it feels to long still once you’ve inserted, repeat the last step and shuffle it further north again to minimise on the stem poking out? It takes a little getting used to the unusual sensation but so long as it’s not uncomfortable or causing discomfort then you are good to go. The cup can be worn for up to 12 hours continuously and should not need any intervention throughout the day. You can have bowel movements as per normal though the first time it might feel a little unnerving! It sort of feels like it’s making a break for it when you have a number 2, but so far this has never actually happened to me!! Again it’s about learning to trust and get used to the sensations! I have exercised with it in without issue, though I haven’t been swimming yet! Getting it out: much like my thoughts on getting it in, it’s more about giving yourself maximum access and working on your technique! First of all think about the situation? it might be a little messy the first few goes so be prepared! I pull trousers etc right down to my ankles, giving you nice wide knees. I tend to sit as far back as I possibly can on the toilet seat. This enables you to reach forward without to much fuss under neath. Finally before anything else I take 2-3 squares of loo roll and place them folded slightly next to me. (Once it’s out and poured away you’ll want to pop it down momentarily whilst you finish tidying before heading to the sink to wash up!) So! Breathing definitely helps, if you can push with what muscle you have inside to really force it south in the first instance that’s a plus, but it shouldn’t be too much trouble reaching the stem. I find pinching gently just above the stem to guide it back down is a good start, you can gently pull the stem itself but I find this quite fiddly and not very productive. Pinch just above means you can direct it out however this alone will not a) possibly even allow for its exit and b) be comfortable at all if I’m honest! By pulling the cup straight out you are fighting the vacuum which holds it in in the first place. Much like inserting, once you’ve got your grip and are able to gently tilt, with the other hand slide one finger in and again press the rim toward the other side of the rim, the vacuum will break and it’ll slide straight out. You can then pour the contents in the loo below you, and place on you prepared loo roll squares. Once you’re sorted simply rinse under cold water first to avoid staining, then wash under warm water and let air dry. I purchased the Lunette wash to which seems to do the job with the tiniest blob each day I use it. I expect the wash will last me a year or 2 which makes it very good value for money. All in all I’m so pleased with my Lunette cup! I’ve not used a single tampon for months now. I must say, I know the cup can be worn if removed, rinsed and replaced. But I feel more comfortable have 12 in 12 out, so I now only buy night towels to have in once I’ve done my day in a cup! This is saving me a fortune and has meant I’ve been able to save on wasting 3 other types of sanitary products! I think every female should have one of these in their lives and should definitely give it a go!!!
