Do i need a spring to attach the antena or just screw antena to coaxial

It helps to have a spring attached to the antenna to take up the wind effect on the antenna when you are doing 60 mph. It is not necessary but if your antenna is a 102 inch whip, it helps take off the pressure of the antenna base that is attached to the body of your automobile/truck.
