So compact, fits a lot
I bought this bag because I wanted something that could look compact enough to not get questioned about size and weight when traveling throughout Europe. I traveled through DFW, JFK, Amsterdam, Prague, Dubrovnik, Brussels, and Lisbon with this bag and was never once questioned about the size.It has the expander zipper which I would pack all my stuff in with it expanded, and then zip the expander back up to make it look smaller. The straps on the side also help to slurp the bag up.I loved all the compartments that it had. There’s the main compartment and then on the outside you have two small compartments. I loved that they perfectly fit a quart sized baggie, which made going through security and pulling out my liquids very easy. The only reason I didn’t give this bag 5 stars is because the back support is subpar. There is no lower back support which means all the stress is on your upper back and I definitely felt it after having it on for more than 10 or 15 minutes.I personally don’t recommend using it as the duffle bag option. The combination of the shape, size and location of the duffle bag straps really just makes it feel quite awkward.I traveled for 12 days with this bag and was able to bring an outfit for every day. For size references.

Great style! Poor quality😕
I researched a long time before getting this pack. Day two on our trip to Europe, it started to fail at the zipper. With 2 weeks of traveling all over and babying it, we made it home (after wrapping duct tape around it). Eagle Creek offered to “fix it”, but I didn’t trust it wouldn’t just pull apart again. Amazon so kindly took it back. I will be purchasing the Osprey one like my husband’s pack. The zipper was at least 2.Xs the size, if not more. Such a bummer because I really liked how it fit me.

Versatile
I wanted a backpack style "suitcase" that could be a carry-on. I tested and tried a lot of similar bags like Patagonia's black-hole 40 L bag, Northface's equivalent, Cotapaxi....you name it. I am a female with a small frame. I ended up with this particular pack for several reasons....this bag is less expensive than the most of the others (comparable to the REI version I suppose)....it is expandable so you can use it as a carry-on if not expanded or small checked luggage fully expanded (and on my most recent trip I used it both ways). It has synch straps, handles all over the bag, the compartment to store the backpack straps has a zipper closure, and it comes with a shoulder strap as well. I also like the exterior pockets, they provided that little extra space. The backpack straps also come with a chest strap....the only "I wish it had" for me would be a waist belt. I was not carrying it for a long time so that was not an issue for me on this particular trip. I am very pleased with it....could stuff a lot into it!

Amazingly good quality
A really superb carry on case that expands to just over carry on size if you want it to and stays carry on size if you dont. It is built really strong and has excellent features. It has backpack straps that stow in a hidden zip pocket, It has a shoulder strap option that works great, and it has a standard carry handle in the middle that is balanced well as well as handles on top and bottom so making it easy for me to yank back out of the overhead bin. It has two separate zip front pockets and the main compartment opens up very wide via a large C shaped zipper. It has 4 compression straps that are adjustable. Sometimes you really get what you pay for and this one is worth it. Built very solid.

The side that faces wherever you set it is the side that goes against your back.
It was the perfect size, weight, and material for using on safari. The only problem was I had to be careful where I sat it down because that part would go against my back. Was always trying to make sure it sat on an end or upside down. A little difficult to do at times with porters carrying my bag sometimes.

True to Eagle Creek Reputation
Awesome piece of luggage. Very versatile. Eagle Creek should use sturdier and thicker materials. Getting chintzier over the years.

Day tripper
Too small inside. Made for day trips not for long distance air travel

Decent option
PositivesVery spacious and you can fit in easily a weeks worth of clothes. Is carry on compliant for the bigger airlines also.Very light and the front pockets are useful.NegativesMy main issue would be the bag is not the most comfortable when carrying for extended periods. No waist support and the straps are not really padded enough.

Eagle Creek Gear Warrior 45L
I have to say that the reason why I chose the Eagle Creek Gear Warrior was mainly because of the price. Other 40L travel duffel/backpacks that are comparable in quality and size (ex. Pelican, Osprey, etc) cost $50 to $100 more. The first thing I noticed that this duffel/backpack is actually 45L, not 40L. Also, it expands using a zipper that follows the whole bottom seam to add an extra 2" of height/space. It's great for fitting in dirty laundry (not folded) or souvenirs when you're on your way back from a trip. The main cavity of the duffel/backpack is just one section, there are no other zippers or compartments. I bought travel storage cubes (Gonex brand) that I will be using to organize my clothing/stuff when packing. There are two smaller compartment zippers on either ends of the duffel/backpack (see photos.)There are 4 compression straps near each corner to help get ride of any extra air which may be taking up storage space. Please see the photos and the product description for additional details.PROS:- very roomy and the main compartment is expandable- compression straps help with minimizing the space the Gear Warrior takes up- quickly/easily converts between a single strap duffel or a two strap backpack- there is a reflective material on the outside of the duffle/backpack (bottom pouch compartment; see photo) to help with pedestrian visibility (night)- sturdy foam pull handles on either end- top zipper lock for traveling security (see photo)- price is lower than other comparable brands- compact and provides more motility for the wearer- padded backpack straps with an emergency whistle incorporated to the sternum buckle- (personal opinion: I really like the color of this Gear Warrior duffel/backpack. The dark blue contrasts well with the periwinkle purple.)CONS:- may need to purchase storage cubes to organize and maximize all available space (not included)- does not provide a rigid structure like a shell-type carry-on luggage so breakable items must be kept out unless extensively padded/protected- to open the main compartment's zipper, one must undo most, if not all, compression strap buckles because only the front pockets are easy access pockets.- does not provide waist strap supportOverall, I can live with the shortcomings of this type of carry on/travel duffle, so I think that this was a worthy and equitable purchase (Please note, I did get this when it was on sale at $104.)
