it would appear the Dewalt 334 and 335 have the same features. Are these identical except for the handle and controls?

The difference is in the grip. The DCS335B has a barrel grip while the DCS334B has a top grip. If you look at the photos, you should be able to see this. Some people say the barrel grip gives a finer level of control. I don’t know about that. Otherwise, I have not been able to determine any significant differences.

From the photos it looks like there's a set screw in the base for using a parallel guide, is that correct?

There is a lever on the rear of the jigsaw that unlocks the angle or tilt feature. Then one needs to push the base foward to tilt it. It sits in a notch for the zero position.
