Vietnamese Mahjong Set

Extra large tiles. Great size, good feel, good weight, and nice artwork. Traditional art but also western numerals to make it easy to use. Has all the tiles needed for most variants. Only downside is the carrying case. It is just not durable enough for long term use. These tiles are HEAVY and the case is flimsy. The chips and dice are super cheap too, but at this price, I didn't expect any better. You're paying for the tiles here, not the accessories.

The tiles themselves are chunky, sturdy, colorful, and appear to be well-made. While the ad text says “ARABIC NUMERALS IN (sic) ALL TILES (sic),” “Both Arabic numbers and Chinese characters were engraved clearly on tiles,” “engraved with both Arabic numbers and Chinese,” nearly every pic shows otherwise, and the pics are correct. None of the tiles except the Flower tiles have Arabic numerals. The case is poorly made, flimsy as many have said, and mine came with a small tear. All-in-all, while I was hoping for Arabic numerals, and would have appreciated a better case, I’m not likely to return it. It also states that “ENGLISH INSTRUCTION ALSO INCLUDED,” and this was not present in the packaging. Reduced stars from 3 to 1 after contacting company by email twice with no response.

For me, being a single income, the only thing that I wish I could change about this is the price. However, it is absolutely worth every penny. They are beautifully made, nice and smooth with no rough edges, very durable, but heavy. Only thing I would suggest is look into another case, because the one that they come in is not that sturdy however, if you’re like me, I need to watch your money when looking for a new case do not look up mah-jongg cases those are more expensive so just look up metal case

I like YMI and its products. I have bought several Go products from YMI and I can tell you that their quality and customer service are spot on! With that, my review of the mah jong set is coming from personal experience playing this game with various other sets sold in Asian markets. I do not receive any compensation or payment from YMI so this is strictly my honest review. Pros: Beautiful set that comes with all pieces, coins, winds, and tiles. The size of the tiles is normal tournament size, I believe, which is my preferred size to play with. It is NOT XL size which I have seen in other Asian sets however, for the sizes compared to the American set it is A LOT larger. Cons: I wish this wasn't so but the cases are cheap and bad. It doesn't hold very well in my opinion as I am used to the heavier vinyl that comes from sets sold in Asian grocery stores. It is very flimsy and slightly peeling upon the first arrival. The inner holders for the tiles are also very flimsy so when you take them out of the travel case, they will bend and potentially spill everywhere. I recommend YMI invest slightly more into thicker material to have a better sturdiness to them. Also, the wind dice are slightly off-centered (might be a style thing) which I am not used to. The tin that holds it was also dented upon arrival so it was more oval shaped than circular which made it difficult to close. I suspect it is this way from the shipping of the case itself with tiles smashing against it. If you are looking to buy a carrying case from YMI, don't it won't fit this particular set as it doesn't have the same dimension as the American Set tiles. Will I recommend this set: Yes if you don't mind a flimsy case and tin. Tiles are beautiful and aesthetically pleasing. It is a good starter gift for anyone who is looking to begin playing with the Vietnamese jokers.

I really love this mahjong set. The design is different and beautiful to the usual mahjong sets I see around. Size is perfect not too big, not too small. Would be nice if there are other colors besides green. But I think I found the perfect mahjong set.

Love the bigger size with Jokers.... easy to see, sturdy and fun to play with. Question???? Can I purchase the 4 or 6 extra more jokers of this set ??? Please.... just in case... Love it :) ....however the 2nd one ordered was chipped all over after 3 months, I contact the vendor and Amazon.com maybe they can replace it ... but they won't do it, but thats only 3 months... I was disappointed ... Can they still do something about it??? I'm forever be a good customer.😘

Very nice and large enough to handle. Great for older people. Case a little flimsy and the whole thing in the case is real heavy. Might look into getting a different case. Afraid of having the case break and the tiles dropping out.

As other reviewers have noted, the case holding these tiles may prove flimsy over time. (It's fine at the moment.) The scoring chips are thin and feel cheap. There are no racks or pushers in the product, and no brochure on the rules. But the tiles are great! Surprisingly thick, with handsome green backs. I bought this set because of the more traditional symbols for the red and green dragons, which have been abandoned on many other sets. The product description on the Amazon page is a bit misleading, as there are no Arabic numerals on any tiles but the flowers and seasons. If you don't know the Chinese symbols for numbers 5 through 9, you'll need to memorize them, as the character tiles don't have the Arabic numerals. There are 8 Vietnamese jokers, not the full set, but you can see that if you look at the graphics in the Amazon page. Overall, a great product -- exactly what I needed.
