Horror stories, science fiction, detective stories and satirical sketches -the variety of Poe will chill and delight Locked doors, sealed cavities, bricked-up alcoves and premature burial close in on Poe's narrators as they , like their victims, are cut off from light, air and human society. Partly, Poe's stories resonate as the disordered chambers' of the narrators' minds but also they suggest archetypal, if extreme psychological states. yet Poe was an incurable hoaxer, and in telling some wonderful short stories he also told some excessively tall tales. The most comprehensive paperback edition available, introduction, selected criticism chronology of Poe's life and times. Review: The most important to know about the Tales of Mystery and Terror book is that it’s in first person. - The book is very detailed and it also puts imagery in your head about the characters and what they are doing to show what is happening in the book inside your head. The book is in first person which gives you a sense that you are the main character in the story because it uses words like I, me, etc. Review: Better rendition, added cover art and illustrations! - Great read! Cover art and illustrations are entertaining and being out the narrative! I wish it included the poems ( they do have a complete one without illustrations) but this book is a better rendition

Great collection! Fabulous illustration!
This is a larger format than the 1930 original printing ,which I also own. If you like Poe, this collection is great but the artwork of Harry Clarke illustrating the stories adds an unbelievably, vivid complement to the author's work. The original sells for hundreds of dollars when it can be found. this one was less than $20. the only thing missing are a few (3 or 4) color illustrations. Buy it!.

Ok but no illustrations and quite short
I bought this because I saw the reviews saying it had great illustrations, but this has none. Maybe they're in a different version? It's also quite short, and missing some excellent Poe stories such as The Cask of Amontillado.

Great Buy
I bought this as a gift and it was a big hit. Also when I bought the book originally it said it would take a long time for the book to ship, but came within a few days. I was extremely pleased with this order! If you like Poe, you should love this.

What A Beautiful Volume !
This is an absolutely beautiful leather-bound volume of Edgar Allan Poe's 'Tales Of Mystery and Imagination', illustrated by the great Harry Clarke and published by Barnes and Noble. It is packed with black and white, colour and red and black plates. My father bought me the same edition when I was a kid but I lost it somewhere along the long road of my life. It's good to have the stories back again in such sumptuous raiments! If you haven't read Poe before it might take a bit of adjustment to absorb his florid stylistic excesses. In the introduction by Neil Gaiman he suggests reading the stories out loud. I couldn't agree more. Doing this really brings them to life even if you feel a bit silly doing so! The book is fit to be an heirloom. A beautifully made tribute to this great master of the macabre.
