Well made, light to move and great instructions
I purchased this frame to use in a small studio. It was easily put together by following the instructions. The frame folds into a nice size sofa. it is comfortable as both a couch and under a 6" foam mattress. I was impressed by the finish and quality of the wood used to make all the parts, even the slats are finished and rounded. The design is ingenious and it is pleasing to have in a zen-ish room. I recommend having a light set of cushions for the sofa as the slats are wide and the fold-under foot section means a full size mattress would flop over the back of the top or need to be tri-folded so there is a double fold in the seat. Another option is to keep the foot section out as a lounger and the mattress fits fully with bends. I like the compactness from keeping the foot section folded under. Either way, it is a great, sturdy, lightweight frame that adds functional style.

Really wonderful instructions - easy to assemble!
I was really nervous about assembling the futon myself. I chose this one because other reviews said the instructions were good. And sure enough, step by step, I just did exactly what the instructions said and now I have a wonderful futon! Im really happy. The futon is good quality, the wood is solid and looks nice. Here are some tips that were useful to me: 1. Open the package and check that each and every part is there. There's a detailed packing list. Don't forget the screws and little wood plugs. 2. Mark each piece with duck tape, with the part number the packing list says (you want to give the part the name the instructions use.) Group each kind of wooden part together and lay them out on a white sheet on the floor so you can see them easily. Do the same with the different screws and wood plugs. This will save you a lot of time and frustration finding the parts, and more importantly, from using the wrong part in the assembly! 3. Use a drop of carpenter's glue (I used Elmer's glue like children use in school) in the holes before you put in the wood plug to join wooden pieces. Also use a drop of glue in the screws before you screw them in. This will keep the futon from squeaking. 4. Read all the instructions carefully before you begin, and the individual instruction again before you start that step. It helped me to put a check mark on each sub-step I completed as I went along. 5. I used an electric drill to put in the screws and a hammer to tap the wood parts together. That's it. You can do it! It was a lot easier than I thought. My heartfelt thanks to the manufacturers for such good instructions.

I have to say that assembly was time consuming and not easy for me
Okay. Before I say anything else, I have to say that assembly was time consuming and not easy for me. All the parts were there and the instruction sheet was actually pretty well written, but had i been in a bad mood, this would have been thrown in a corner. So, buy this and know that it is worth the effort and time to put it together. I have used this daily since I accomplished construction . . . LOL . . . and it is strong and perfect for me. I am a heavier person and was concerned that my weight my be a problem, and it is not. This frame is strong and stays put when I get up or sit down. It adjusts easily for me, and is very comfortable in every position. I am very happy that I bought this, and I would buy it again even knowing that the process of putting it together was going to take a while.

Sturdy and nice, misaligned screw holes is the only (minor) issue.
It was fairly easy to put together. The instructions were very straightforward and I'd recommend -not- blowing 134$ on professional assembly unless you absolutely need to. You just need a hammer and screwdriver- though electric or a drill might also be needed. Sort all of the parts before assembly and use a pencil to label them as per the enclosed sheet that lists contents (I didn't bother labeling the long slats). I had 2 extra dowel-pegs and 4 extra screws. Look over the instructions beforehand if you want to also organize each piece by order in which they're used (like you'll be using the longest pieces last). This took no longer than an hour to assemble. The stand-alone pegs slid in fine, but you'll need the hammer to get the metal pins in their respective holes and to secure the wooden pieces after aligning the pegs that hold them together. The only difficulty was that the holes drilled for the screws weren't in the right place. I was able to get most of the screws in with a simple hand-screwdriver, but some were still sticking up a bit so I had to take an electric screwdriver to them since screws not sitting flush with the wood can cause parts to be shaky or (if on the panels under the mattress) can potentially damage the underside of your mattress over time. This thing does not seem flimsy at all, so I expect it to last. You may need to tie your futon mattress down somehow (some come with ties on one side specifically for this. I'm using a 6in memory foam tri-fold and it does slide around a bit when in bed mode, but it's not a huge deal.

EXCELLENT QUALITY Twin Futon Lounger Bed ~ Easy Assembly for this 67 year young woman!
KD Frames Lounger Futon, Twin: The product came packaged perfectly and in good order. Parts are marked well on easy to read paperwork and if you USE THE ASSEMBLY VIDEO ON YOUTUBE (or here), all the guesswork is gone. Assembly was done by me alone (67 year young woman) with a manual Phillips screwdriver and a rubber mallet. Taking my time, I laid everything out as instructed and followed along with the video...took me a slow, casual, error free assembly time of almost 2 hours. My Futon mattress is rather thin so I used my half inch exercise mat underneath it and had no issues at all sleeping on it last night. Previously, I was sleeping with the mat & Futon directly on Tile floor but wanted to be off the ground for better air circulation in this Las Vegas heat! Also, if I have extra company, this frame can easily be moved to any room of the house. Don't hesitate to buy this. The Company has taken great care to make Assembly instructions very clear. WELL DONE, KD FRAMES!!!

Happy to be framed thus!
Okay, my major criticism about this product is that it uses about 2 million screws to assemble it and I simply didn't have the hand, arm, back and chest strength necessary to stand or kneel hunched over trying to coax those blasted things into the wood with a handheld phillips screw driver. Oh my God, it was exhausting and my arms hurt for a long while afterwards! I had to don two pairs of oven mitts to protect my hands while, er, screwing, and they were still very sore and as red as a baboon's butt afterwards. If there is a someone around who has that kind of bulk and strength, please have them help you do it! Other than that, I found assembling it was actually like putting a puzzle together and I enjoyed it very much. I took the advice of another purchaser and used masking tape to label all the pieces before attempting to assemble it and this was very helpful. A few observations that might assist others. 1. The lounger doesn't lounge back as far as I would have liked. I was hoping I could use it to sleep in a semi-elevated position when I have a flu or something to help prevent excess coughing due to congestion and drainage. However, at the lowest setting (notch) it is still relatively vertical so sleeping with it in that position wouldn't really be an option for me. 2. The frame, once assembled, is rather heavy. To convert it from bed to lounger, you must remove the futon, lift the seat portion and fold the footrest under the seat and then lower the seat. After you have converted the bed to the recliner, you must reposition/move the frame closer to where you want it positioned because it is now taking up much less space. Then you must position the futon on the chair and this is a little difficult. A futon is floppy and rather heavy and I end up doing some moving baled hay-type maneuvers to drag it onto the frame and position it properly. Personally, I don't mind because I only convert it on weekends or when I am home for any length of time. The rest of the time, work days in particular, I just leave it in the bed position to save time. To convert it back to the bed, you must once again remove the futon. If you have the frame against the wall when it is a recliner, which I do, you must first pull it away from the wall because when you lift the seat portion to pull the foot rest out from underneath, the backrest portion lowers. Once you have the footrest unfolded you then lower the entire frame to the floor and extend the footrest all the way out to form the bed frame. 3. Once assembled it is very sturdy and extremely comfortable to sleep on. It is low to the floor, though, so some might not appreciate this because it can make getting in and out of bed a little awkward, particularly if it is the middle of the night and you need to go to the bathroom. Again, I don't mind and a good night's sleep is worth a few idiosyncracies. The frame also looks nice when it is in the bed position. When it is in the recliner position with the futon in place you can't see the frame except from behind or standing directly to the side. It is comfortable to sit in but I find putting a small pillow behind the small of my back is helpful. Your butt can get a little sore after sitting in one place for a while but it's obvious what to do about that. The learning curve is rather swift and once you get the process figured out it goes pretty smoothly and you hardly notice the bulk that is forming on your arms and in your chest!

Beautiful wood and easy assembly..
Love this frame!! The Tulip Poplar is lovely, seems strong and is easy to handle. Company has enclosed paper explaining the coloration of the wood, which did apply to some of our pieces, but doesn't distract from beauty of furniture at all. Very appreciative that this is Made In USA item Assembly was quite simple, took very minimal tools. Some folks have had issues with only a few of the pieces with any type of labeling, but there was no issue with this on my end.. I just separated everything out beforehand and then paid attention to instructions that were VERY clear on which pieces to use when, distinguishing them by their measurements. So far, VERY happy with this. And quite happy with the price point, as well!! ๐

Buyer Beware: Poplar is Green
First of all, let me say this: it's an affordable, sturdy, light-weight, two-person couch. Of all the options online, the KD Lounger stands alone as being inexpensive and having Prime shipping to boot! There was simply no other option when I had the wild idea to turn my wife's old foam mattress into a couch, but didn't want to spend a couple weeks sawing and gluing lumber and end up with something too heavy to move around. The KD Lounger was an incredible deal, because it was exactly what we wanted: a tiny couch. It assembled easily in about a half-an-hour, and is very easy to use, move and adjust. We love it! Here's the caveat you probably won't realize until it arrives: it's made of poplar. And poplar heartwood (the cheaper lumber especially) is full of big black, purple and especially GREEN stains. The whole frame we received is a green hue, with some large black stains and even a couple black knots in visible places. It does NOT match the picture in the listing in color or quality. I understand that in ten or twenty years these green stains will darken, usually turning an orange brown; but we're talking decades. Also the frame we received came from the Amazon Warehouse and while labelled "new with damaged packaging" it actually had some damage to the pieces that went under the seat. They're not usually visible, but it was disappointing to receive what was clearly a reject. I will NOT be buying from Amazon Warehouse in the future. Lastly if you still think this little couch is the solution to your bedding or sitting needs, but you'd rather not live with a big green wooden thing for a few decades waiting for it to age and look like "normal" wood, here's the trick: oxalic acid. I understand you can wipe it on, let it dry, perhaps repeat, then rinse and you'll have forced that decade or two of aging and turned those green stains an orange-brown. The black stains and knots won't be going anywhere, but at least the rest will be a shade of brown, not green. Anyways, that's just what I've learned from this experience. If I could do it again I'd order from Amazon directly and wait the extra week or two for the delayed Prime shipping, and expect to do my own oxalic acid treatment at the same time as I'm assembling it. With the oxalic acid and my time assembling and treating the lumber, it's still the right price and the right size for our little apartment. Happy trails!

Balcony seating, lounging and sleeping!
I am so happy I found this perfectly sized convertible bed. It fits so nicely on my balcony, and have paired it with a comfortable trifold mattress. I have slept and tanned out there plus it's great for entertaining as the couch. I also painted the wood white, so colour or discolour was not a concern for me. Easy to build, hammer required to save your hands on the dowels, and I'd recommend a drill for ease but not needed. The box is rather heavy, so be aware and a bigger size would weigh more. I suggest to build in place if doing it solo for the weight, it is a one person build. Enjoy!
