I bought this for my grandsons Christmas but it never worked ,his dad put the batteries in a red light came on but nothing else

Sounds faulty. I can’t remember my son playing with it much but it did move.

can you use re- chargable batteries in thses cars

Don’t see why not - kids are always forgetting to turn them off. Good idea.

Is it possible to buy replacement wheels, my son's McLarens rear wheel broke off after a fews weeks of ownership

I’m not sure don’t think you can. I got it for my son for his birthday it broke so ordered another one completely different and smaller
