Tetra LED Hood Cotton 16 Inches by 8 Inches, Low-Profile Aquarium Hood with Hidden Lighting

I ordered this lid for my aqueon 5.5gal tank and it fits perfectly, including around the filter. Very happy it worked out so well :)

So, over the weekend, I picked up an Aqueon 5 1/2 gallon glass tank during their 50% off event at Petco. They had 2 choices for tops/covers, both of them are hinged glass canopies but I’ve always preferred the cleaner, full hood look on my tanks.After extensive searching, this hood is the only one available that I could find at a “reasonable” price and would fit perfectly on my new tank as reviewers of the product have said. The glass canopy with separate LED lights resting on top/above the glass canopy would’ve been a cheaper solution but not by much and the reviews on both of the glass canopies were curiously bad with most stating that they did not fit, even though they were designed to, as claimed by the manufacturers.After I received the hood and having read some reviews that said the 3 LED lights are not bright enough and can/will turn suspect after some time of use, I decided not to expend any effort to assemble the lights that came with the hood. Instead, I opted to “upgrade” the lighting right away by using a submersible LED light bar with suction cups which I already had on hand and attached it under the hood itself. Now, as we all know, sometime suctions cups don’t always hold as they should but you can alway super glue the suctions cups onto the hood if needed and then easily switch out a new light bar for a replacement or for a different color if you choose.The hood is not as flimsy as a couple of reviewers have said and yes it is pricey for what is essentially just a piece of plastic. Having said that, it’s the only full hood I could find that fits perfectly on my new 5 1/2 gallon Aqueon aquarium which is why I described the price as ”reasonable”, as there is no other inexpensive full hood option available.Anyway, after a long hard thought, I’m happy and satisfied that I pulled the trigger and purchased it. I took off 1 star only because of the high price, not because the product is bad.

I was upset that the 5.5 gallon Aqueon glass aquarium didn't come with a lid or light so I came on here to order one.Was worried it wouldn't fit within the top measurements of the opening but it sets in just perfect.After I ordered this thirty dollar little plastic lid, I realized the cutout for filter was only 6.25 by 1.25 according to a review on here. So when I measured my Aqueon 10 filter, I got nervous it wouldn't fit because it measured at least 3.Got it out of the box when it arrived today, placed it on perfectly within seconds and the filter fit RIGHT in the cutout. There's only PART of the filter that goes inward toward the cutout while the rest hangs off the back. So I got all worried for nothing.Popping the LED bar into the receptacle under the lid was the toughest part but even that only took a minute. After threading the cord through the pathway, I set it all back on, plugged it in and clicked the switch to turn it on.Voila!Gorgeous, simple setup.Very happy.

This lid would have done the trick had it been the correct size. The outside of the box it came in said it was 16”x8”, but it was actually 15-3/8”x7-5/8”. The cut out is large enough for our filter to fit through and there is another smaller cutout that is wide enough for our heater cord to fit through. Unfortunately, none of those positives matter because it won’t fit our 16x8 tank.

It fits my 5.5 gallon tank perfect!! I am SO unsatisfied with the lighting!! With how much you pay for this lid... The lighting should be MUCH better than it is! If you're looking for low lighting it's perfect for you! I have floating and planted plants in my aquarium and it's not enough light AT ALL!! Very disappointed especially with the Tetra name!! Usually their stuff is good. This is very disappointing!

The media could not be loaded. This tank lid is so easy. Unbox, plug in the light, and then place into the tank. My tank is a aqueoun 5.5 gallon 16x8x10. Perfect little tank for a beta fish or some danios! The light is really small and doesn’t offer a ton of light into the tank. So if you’re looking for a really well lit tank I’d recommend a different lid. Love that it had a little feeding hole at the top so you don’t have to remove the lid for feeding. Also love how wide the back open slit is. I could easily fit a full size filter and heater through it.

I bought this for my 5.5gl betta tank, and it fits like a glove! The hood fits right in the inner "lip" of the black border, and there are two pre-cut holes at the back of the hood, one for your filter, and a smaller one, for miscellaneous wires, heater dial, etc . There's alo a small hole towards the front of the hood, that acts as an outlet to feed your fish.the feeder hole is like a moonroof in design (minus the glass), so you can't necessarily hang any filters or whatnot on it.The model I bought was a 16"x8", and unlike the (stock) picture for this product (which is of the 24" option), my unit came with one LED strip (with a total of 3 bulbs), which isn't necessarily misleading, but....I suppose if you weren't already knowledgeable about tank hoods n' whatnot, it'd be a bit shady.The LED is surprisingly bright, and durable, but be careful! Though the LED is made to be around water, too much will short out the light and you'll have to get a whole new lid. Place airstones as far away as you can from the light to prevent shortage, and even then you may want to make an apparatus of sorts (I have a mesh cage protecting my light), where condensation won't form directly on it. :)
