Material is sturdy but flexibly soft to work with
I recarpeted stairs in my home. I priced carpet protectors for stairs and it was pretty pricey for what I wanted (3 steps at $37). I found this runner and it was perfect for my use. I cut the runner in lengths of 9" and the width was already perfect; to fit 14 individual steps with enough to overhang over the front of each. The small grips on the bottom side weren't enough to grab the carpet sufficiently to hold in place. I put a strip of double-sided clear rug tape on each. Some steps I put two strips (used 3 rolls of this tape 180" per roll). The cut runner (protectors I call them) holds beautifully and looks clean and nice. Saved a lot of money.

Great for the price after taping down
Overall we are pleased with this. At first when we put it down it was wavy, didn’t lie flat and was annoying to walk on. It also shifted around. Used this for our company and we have low commercial office carpet. Got the deep pile one after reading reviews that the low pile one slides. Glad I did because this one slides as well and the low pile one would have been worse. After not being able to deal with the wavy ness and sliding we decided to use good clear packing tape and tape the ends down. We tapes one end then pulled the piece until it was flat and taped the other side. We also talked the seems where two pieces overlapped at corners and intersections. It is SO MUCH BETTER now. It isn’t as thick as it needs to be to lie down flat on its own and not shift. With the addition of the clear packing tape it works beautifully though so we are happy. Doesn’t look terrible either and will protect our carpet nicely. Great for the price. Get high pile one even if using in low carpet.

Protects and stays in place
This deep pile carpet runner stays in place and pretty much unrolls, then flattens, with ease. I found this runner, unlike many others, once unrolled, was pretty easy to flatten out and the "newness" scent goes away, fairly quickly. It does stay in place, even after heavy traffic usage. It is easy to "customize" the fit, just by cutting it with normal everyday scissors to fit it to your needs. This does prevent dirt and other things from getting on your carpet - i.e. this protects as it should.

This stuff is great!
I purchased this sheet to cover the high traffic area in front of my recliner. This is NOT like the stuff I’ve gotten from my local hardware/home repair chain store. This stuff is wayyyyyy better!! It comes rolled & shrink wrapped in a sturdy box. It is of much better quality vinyl & thickness. It unrolled & flattened in no time & was easy to cut with my utility scissors. The little fingers grab my high pile carpet well. The only thing that would make it better is if it was a clear - no visible pattern on top. I’m thinking about ordering a 5x7 piece for my foyer’s front door rug. If you need a rug protector for high traffic areas, this is IT!!

For dog lovers w/ carpet floor
Heavy traffic area carpet saver. I bought this after seeing the dirty water when the area was shampooed. With dogs and jacket/shoe closet on the same area, this minimizes the amount of dirt on the carpet. Clings to the high carpet really well.

Horribly wavy
No matter what we do, it will not lay flat. It was wonky out of the package, but to be expected after being rolled up for shipping. We left it laying out unrolled for almost 3 weeks before we put it in place hoping it would flatten. It did not. We put the edges under furniture where we could, hoping that would hold it down after pulling it out flat. It did not. We purchased in July, it's now December and it still hasn't flattened out. I think it's safe to say it never will at this point. I absolutely hate it. It looks terrible and more importantly is a tripping hazard and will be going in the dumpster.
