Journey to the Heart: Daily Reflections for Spiritual Growth, Embracing Creativity, and Discovering Your True Purpose

I am in a trauma recovery program and battle with a lot of previous issues from destructive relationships from abuse. This book has amazingly beautiful meditations and readings in it for daily reflection, but more importantly, it has phenomenal tidbits of wisdom in it that help me realize why I do, think and feel the way I do. It makes me realize these feelings are valid and normal and that it is not only OK to feel them but that there is a way to get through them. I love this so much I bought it for others in the same situation (both men and women).

A yoga teacher of mine used to read a passage out of this book before every class, and the brief readings resonated with me heavily. No matter what you’re going through (or not going through) in life, Melody Beattie’s beautiful daily lessons are worth five minutes of your time: for cleansing, ruminating, meditating, reflecting, or whatever you need. There’s always something useful to be gleaned from each daily message, and my heart is fuller after I partake in these words.

To say I love this book is an understatement, but I have no other way of putting it. I read it every morning before I start my day. I found out about it from a therapy yoga instructor who used to read from it before we started class. It's definitely a must have. When I have completed the year, I know I will do it again as the information and stories are so perfect for life.

Well, you have stumbled upon a terrific life companion in this book. I read a few chapters every evening, so inspiring. There is a way back to compassion and mental well-being and Melody has cleared the path. If you have just one book by your bedside, I recommend this one. R. Williams, coauthor of The Gift of Recovery and The Mindfulness Workbook for Addiction.

I have bought at least 10 copies to share with friends and family. I have even given my personal copy to a stranger that I met who I thought would benefit from it. Its a great gift bc its not a long book that you need to get through. Its a resource you can use daily, or reach for when you need some perspective. You can read one passage in 2-4 minutes.I appreciate the way the author tells small bite sized stories that are empowering-- basically about radical acceptance and love. I enjoy reading a passage in the morning by flipping through and landing on a random page. It helps me focus on my personal power and sets my mood for the day. I also sometimes read a passage at night before bed, I usually read the passage for that day (there are 365 passages, one for each day), so I can clear away other thoughts and reframe my mind as I fall asleep.I love this book and everyone I've given this book to feels loved and cared for by me. Win-Win!!

The daily readings are brief but beautifully invite readers to whatever reflection is needed at that point in their unfolding journey. Beattie speaks in a manner that allows meaning across a wide array of spiritual traditions. For those with an affinity to the west/southwest, the readings may be even more meaningful as Beattie often draws from her experiences in this region for illustration. My copy was given to me as a gift with personalized comments added throughout and I have gone through it several times, each year, finding new insights and inspiration. I have found it so meaningful that I have given it as a gift several times and am now going through again with intentions of providing a personalized gift to someone else.

I cannot explain how this book has impacted my life in some many ways. Melody Beattie has a thought for each day that finds the way always and directly to my heart. From her learnings based on her own journey, I have been able to rediscover myself, see every day as a different experience and remember to look life always from a perpective of love. I repeat the reading of this book for the las three years of my life. It's my first thing to do every morning with my coffee. That is how much I adore it! God bless Melody for this book that has work for me as a warm refuge to my soul.

Amazing, life changing. Healing, insightful. This is the second time I'm buying this book because I gave the first one to my sister yesterday who is in need of some healing for her spirit, mind and soul. I love this book. Thank you Melody for sharing your journey with us and passing on the enlightenment that has been bestowed on to you. The positive energy contained within the words of this book and the journey you have taken changes destinies.

I have this book by my bedside, and read it on a regular basis. I find it very useful for keeping my tendency to grumble in check, reminding me to focus on what's really important. I also like the descriptions of the author's road trip and visits to sacred places. I am familiar with the author;s work on co dependency, which I found helpful many years ago, and find this book a useful companion for everyday life. I added the original copy of the book I bought to the library of teaching books I keep for the class of (aromatherapy) students who are recovering from drug and alcohol addictions. They are very drawn to the book, and will often seek it out. Some have commented that they find it better than One Day at a Time, which is the book of daily meditations used in the AA and NA recovery programmes. I have the One day.... from Al-Anon, and agree that this one is less preachy, more empathic. I have another Hazelden daily meditation publication, called The Promise of a New Day, but Journey to the Heart is undoubtedly my favourite. I've lost count of the number of copies I have purchased for my students over the years. They don't even mind paying full price for it!

Beautiful page-a-day book which has absolutely changed my morning routine. My day is always better when I start by reading the wisdom for that day. I was given it by a friend, and I've gifted it several times more. High quality content, thoughtfully presented. Best spiritual/self help book I have read to date

I like this. It's not a 'how to' or a definitive guide. The chapters (days) are shorter than I expected, but it does contain some good info - things we all know but need reminding off. I tend to read at the end of each day to see if it might tie in with what's going on and then meditate on it before bed, but have a friend who swears it must be read in the morning so you can work your day round it, so I guess it's all about what works best for you, but I'm glad I bought it.

This is really very good. If you are thinking "I wonder if I should get this" then I would recommend that you do. It is lovely, beautiful and inspiring, at once poetic and also practical. I like daily meditation books and this one is my favourite. I also like Molody Beattie's books - and this is my favourite of her's.

Melody Beattie is such a fantastic writer and I have most of her books. This one is brilliant with real life stories and what you gain to learn from reading them. She always touches my heart with her words.
