I bought this polish after seeing a number of reports online about how well it delivers a real high gloss finish. I wanted to put that claim to the test on a pair of shoes that are over five years old and well worn. The results were impressive: within a few minutes the leather had gone from flat and tired to a bright, mirror-like shine that looked almost brand new. Application The application process is simple but does take a bit of technique. Each shoe took me around three minutes. The polish itself comes in a small, firm tin. It isn’t soft like some creams, so I found that adding a touch of water to the brush helped loosen the texture and spread it more evenly across the leather. Once applied, I let it settle for a moment and then went over it with a horsehair brush to bring the shine out. I don't normally leave reviews, but this absolutely deserves one. I've always used the good ol' standard of parade gloss (you know the brand) - due to not being able to get hold of a tin that didn't cost the world, I opted to take a risk and buy a few Saphir tins (pâté de lux / amiral gloss in black) now there was some issues with the original order meaning I ended up having to go and pick some up in town, though this was due to delivery not the company or product. So, first impression it wasn't bad, but nothing I did seemed to give me that mirror shine I would usually achieve on my old shoes with the parade gloss, I was stressed out, I ended up stripping it all back, saddle cleaner the works and starting over the next day and I was instantly impressed but the shine was subpar still until I was told about this stuff now according to my good friend the trick here is light taps to load the cloth, medium pressure and ice cubes. To apply properly the process was dab gloss, apply, dab ice cube, buff, repeat. It made a substantial difference after just a few layers you can see what I accomplished - sadly my time ran out but with enough terrible stuff on TV and a good bit of patience (and a good tea) I don't doubt this will do the job. Size wise it's the standard (patê de lux seems to not go too far mind) Ease of use, well it's technique as always. Durability - it scuffs pretty easy when first applied (you're going to want a damn good cloth that isn't going to leave a micro scratch). All in all, it does what it says on the tin - my only gripe is everyone has a different method for a dying art and it would be good to see what Saphir says to do directly without any of the fluffy.

Not as liquified as i expected more a sort of wax. Does give a deep & full shine on top of bulled black shoes though.

It was shipped all the way from Japan. Though it is not as hard as medaille d'or. It's hard enough to create a strong shell if applied over the cream wax and finishes to a mirror shine when buffed later. I recommend you guys watch elegant oxford YouTube channel on how to mirror shine the shoes. Remember shoe shining is a craft you learn over a period of time, don't expect to end up with a mirror shine on your first attempt and blame the product if you don't achieve one. So far saphir will always live up to it's name.
