An absolute hidden treasure of great intellectual and spiritual depth
This book is an absolute hidden treasure!!! It was published posthumously in 2012-the author died in 2010. Gai Eaton is a British man who converted to Islam in the 1950s- this book consists of essays about the fundamentals of Islamic beliefs, practices, and values most of which are taken from interviews given to the BBC radio in the 1980s and 1990s.The book starts from the basics of the five pillars of Islam and moves on to concepts such as prayer, dhikr, beauty, the environment and animal welfare, the ethics of modern technology and war, contemplation, the role of worship, social activism, and more. The reflections are deep, sensitive, thought-provoking, and you will want to read and reflect on them again and again. This book is also suitable for a non-Muslim reader interested in a very deep and spiritual explanation of Islamic beliefs and practices. I also envision a halaqah/book club using this book for those who wish to discuss something with a lot of spiritual and intellectual meat to it.Despite the fact that these talks were delivered decades ago, they are still immediately relevant to the issues of our time and often read as if they were written this year.
