Perfect Pet Tubby Kat Cat Door with 4 Way Lock And LEXAN Flap, 7 1/2" x 10 1/2" Flap Size

I've had this cat door for 10 years! The install was a little wonky because we needed to put it in the wall of a mobile home but it has served us well. My cat weighs 15 lb and he soon discovered that he could bust through it even when it is in the locked position. The catch for the lock is in the center so if he pushes on a corner he can pop it open. Keep that in mind if you have a Kitty determined to go Outdoors when you don't want them to. In hindsight I wish I had gotten a cat door with the hard plastic cover that slides over the flap so that it would have been break out proof.

Excellent cat door, I ended up buying 3 total. Wanted to get this extra large version cause I've got a chonker of a cat who I doubt would even attempt the smaller ones.Locking mechanism works great. Honestly can be a little annoying to flip through the options/know which you're on/have the door in the right location so that it locks/etc... But it's reasonable enough. I also leave mine unlocked but my gf switches her lock serting all the time so she can keep the cats away from her plants while she's not around. Still working fine though, think it's been a year.Installation was a bit scary, but any messups I made were covered by the width of plastic around the door. Made it look like I knew what I was doing ;D. My doors are that junk particleboard material, or maybe it's more like hardened cardboard (they aren't amazing doors). I used an oscillating saw to start the holes and a reciprocating saw to finish. Was really pretty easy.I recommend these doors to anyone, they work great and aren't too big - like a full on dog door would be.

This door was installed in an interior, hollow-core door that led to the cat's room (my former office). We have an infant just starting to run around (7 1/2 months old) and his curiosity trumps that of the cats'. With him going mobile we wanted to be sure he couldn't get to the cat food or litter, and wanted a way to keep their smell to themselves. We also dog sit my brother's Springer Saponeil-Lab mix quite a bit who finds its awefully charming to eat both the cat's food and their droppings... much to our dismay.Installed this door as a solution to both problems. The opening is large enough for my 15 lb cat to fit through, but small enough that the dog can't get more than it's head through. The baby on the other hand is still small enough (smaller than the cat!) to fit, but as he's not allow out of our sight just yet it's not a problem and by the time he can roam full access, he should be larger than the door.I was concerned about installing in a hollow core door, but the contruction of the door made it a breeze. You use the template provided to cut an opening (Start in the corners with a drill then switch to a jigsaw and connect the dots for best results) and then connect the 2 halves from either side of the opening. It has a wide frame of plastic, so the hole doesn't have to be perfect which is nice if you're a little shaky with power tools. Instead of screwing into the doors next to the hole, the screen actually go into the other half of the door. As you tighten, it compresses the wide frame to the door to secure it in place. Despite not directly attaching to the door, I find the connection to be solid.As the room is theirs, I don't use the 4 way lock. I leave it open. It's nice to see the elegant solution they put in place for that should i ever need it. The door gives some resistance to opening due to a magnet residing in the bottom of the frame and in the bottom of the door. I suppose this is to ensure the door comes to a soft rest at the bottom of it's swing every time. This is the source of a lost star however. Due to that magnet when the cats enter or leave briskly from the room the plastic door tends to have some velocity to it. When it gets to the bottom of it's swing their magnets interact and attempt to stop the door. This causes the plastic to shudder against itself and against it's hinges, creating a rather large racking noise. We didn't think this was a problem until the first night when we could hear it echoing through the baby monitor as if the cats were closing cupboards next to the crib!Great door otherwise, still looking for a solution to quite the shudder noise though.

I've rated this item before so I don't know why I'm being asked to rate it again, but since I've installed it and had some time to see the kitties using it, I'm giving it a 4 this time instead of a 5. It was extremely easy to install and that was a big plus. For that reason it could get a 5 and it does have a great weather strip around it to keep the elements out, but it has a safety flaw that really concerns me. I had a couple younger kitties that hadn't learned how to use a kitty door yet and I have a Siamese that is a pro at using kitty doors. One evening, one of the younger kitties was on the outside trying to figure out how to get to the inside and was pawing on the door making it move back and forth. My Siamese was on the inside watching this action and put both her feet up on the ledge as if to get ready to go through the door, but was only watching, when the door suddenly came back and pinched both her feet very tightly under the door flap. She, of course, was pulling trying to get loose when the door needed to be pushed to release it from her feet. She, of course, was screaming in pain and fear, and I am so glad I was home to rescue her. I pushed the door outward to release it from her paws, Thank goodness, no broken toes! But, I hate to think what would have happened had I not been home to release her from her trap. My old kitty door had a solid door like this one does too, so she is used to using this type, On the old door, the hinges were just little buttons that snapped into a small recessed area so if any pressure was on the door, it would just fall out and not grab the cat. She actually broke the old door flying through it so fast it cracked the whole frame and wouldn't stay together anymore. She hasn't stopped using the door in spite of her getting caught in it but she doesn't fly through it like she did the old on. To date all my kitties have learned to use it except 2. They both just sit there and paw at it until I open the door for them.

It’s a good size, but we removed part of it functionality.We are using the door inside the house, To keep our store room door closed and allow our cat access through the wall. so we found that our large strong cat couldn’t push the door open because the insulating strip was making the door too stiff. Once we removed it, it was much easier and he started using it. So probably it’s best for indoor use. The other day he was pushing at it so much that I couldn’t figure out what his problem was, and I noticed that the locking mechanism had somehow engaged and he couldn’t get through. I’ll keep an eye on that but it’s a bit concerning that he can’t use the door sometimes.

The media could not be loaded.  Mr. Rose is 15 lbs and quite tall and long. Regular size cat doors seem like they're made for hamsters. This door is great size and was easy to install. Mr. Rose has never seen a cat door until the day we installed it and we used some treats to get him to go in and out handful of times. After hesitant inspection he figured it out pretty quick and now is a pro at using it.

This was our second purchase of the "Tubby Cat door" - after 7 years, the insulating strip around the edge of the first door wore out (3 cats) and we got a new door to keep the cold out of the basement. (Prairie winters are cold).Excellent product, very sturdy and easy to install. We cut a piece of plywood to fit a basement window and installed the door in the plywood.Highly recommended!

Install took @ 30 minutes and all was well until tightening screws. I tried everything tightening screws without success. Minimal tightening flexed hollow door and cat door would not open or close. I had to leave screws very loose @ 1/4" gap between door and tubby cat door frame. I then had to fill gap with backer rod in order for door to open & close as intended. I was leery on purchase because of our hollow door and wish I listened to my gut feeling. Our door is paneled but installed so tubby frame sat flush on door and still had negative results. From my personal experience I would buy a different model when installing on a hollow door.

I purchased this item after looking at several options, and am very happy this is the one I chose. My cat is around 11-12 pounds, so I knew it was questionable as to whether some of the other products would work for her size, it is very easy to install, and you can remove the flap (which I did) if you wish. I used it on an interior door to the basement, as I was tired of having to leave the door open in the hallway. It looks great; clean and neat in my door. My cat was very curious and immediately went through the door with no coercing. I would highly recommend this product,
