Backroads & Byways of Michigan: Drives, Day Trips & Weekend Excursions

Great book, highly recommend if you are looking for a "Michigan roadtrip" guidebook. We purchased this one and 2 others to help us with our summer roadtrip in the Leelanau Peninsula and Traverse City area (including Mission peninsula, and up to Charlevoix), but only used this one. It has the "right" combination of drive information, local color information, history of the areas you are seeing, and even some "you may want to stop here" tips. (Thanks, Matt)

Excellent book for Michiganders and tourists alike .It's an easy, "homey" read covering many known and unknown destinations. The time line and the detailed info will help me plan my day trips.The color pictures and maps are a delight.

Awesome book for finding the best backroads to drive in Michigan. Though many times it's faster to take the freeway, it's so much fun to drive the backroads to see the awesomeness of our great country. Michigan is a beautiful state and driving the backroads is an amazing way to discover some of the hidden gems here.

I love this travel guide. I checked it out from the library so much, I decided I should buy it. I use it for every day trip I go on.

We planned a week-long trip in Michigan and were happy to have this book. However, we encountered several problems while using it. Some of his descriptions made a historic site sound pretty impressive, even with costumed guides. We would get there and there would be two or three buildings that were self-guided. Many of his directions were wrong or missing. He said the Eastern Market in Detroit was open Monday through Saturday. By this time I knew to call before going. The offices were open M-F, but the market was only open on Saturday. Use this book to see what is there, but verify everything before going.
