As advertised, this seed mix works very well even in dense shade.

I am updating my review because I want to be fair to the company. I did everything by the book and I did not see a single blade for a full month. After a full week of heavy rains in the Chicago area, I have green grass everywhere! The last two weeks I have had new grass sprouting everyday. I have no idea why it took 6 weeks but it did work. I am giving it 4 stars because it took so long. I will be re-purchasing next year.(First review) I desperately need my money back!!!!! I spent hours raking and tilling my lawn. I purchased two 10 lb bags. I spread linearly and lightly covered with soil. I have been watering daily. We have had several 70 degree days and I do not have a single seed sprouting. It has been 2 weeks...... Very upset!!!

Bought the 10lb. bag (which is a lot of seed) and have gone through about four rounds of planting my problem shady area in the last four months. For three of the four rounds the soil was raked well, sown heavily, covered lightly with screened steer manure, then kept moist by watering quickly several times daily.The first round in August heat sprouted incredibly fast. Like four days fast! The last round in December cool was more like three weeks! On one of the plantings I omitted covering the seed and not much came up at all. Lesson learned.In each successful case, the grass grew quickly once it germinated. So quickly, that it got too long to mow in no time. That is, this grass gets tall and flimsy, then lays over flat so a mower can't cut it. Solution is to mow early when it's just over 2" tall.So, after four attempts and three successes with planting, the grass comes up strong and then peters out in a few weeks.Conclusion: My shade is too dense. I know this because after the last planting, I did some heavy tree trimming to allow more direct sunlight through and the grass has responded somewhat.

4 stars at the moment since I’m not exactly sure how long it takes to notice grass growing! Lol! I purchased a home that’s a rehab-but they sure didn’t rehab the lawn! 2 gigantic trees in the back-mostly shade. A zillion leaves. I’ve had to use a wicked heavy rake and then, a regular metal leaf rake... I have only a tiny bit of grass ... a bit more on the South side. Mostly dirt and mud. I bought 2 bags of this. It looks very nice and uniform; I’m hoping for a lil grass to start coming up. I’ve put it down twice in the front of my yard.I’ll let you know if I see anything growing!!

These seeds are the right ones for my backyard. I have a lot of tree shade so I was having trouble growing grass in my backyard but these did the trick. They sprouted in a week and have been growing strong since. You just have to make sure you keep the soil moist.

I have a lawn that is very shady. Lots of trees blocking the sun. I have tried other grass seeds, but had no success. This grass seed,however, grew amazingly. It didn't even require much maintenance. I put the seed on the area with no grass and within eight weeks it has grown so thick. It's now thicker than the rest of my lawn. It has made the rest of my lawn look bare. I highly recommend this product. Don't mess around with lower priced brands. This is worth every penny.

I am in the process of growing this grass on the shady side of my house. Get 3-4 hrs sun each day and thats all. It is growing---up 2 inches now, lower in some shadier spots. Been cultivating for 3 weeks.

used for reseeding lawn. Did not grow as expected. Some areas did not grow at all.
