Gerber Gator Bolo Machete, Full Tang w/ Sheath, Stainless Steel, 22"/15.5"

I bought this machete over a year ago it is one of the best I have ever owned. Am from Jamaica where we use a machete for almost everything on the farm, if you need a good machete this is one of the best not perfect because there is no such thing, but absolutely awesome. It is well balanced, the weight is in the tip this make it great for cutting your way through the bush. It easy to sharpen, I love it so much I am going to buy three more for my friends. And don’t forget, you get a carrying case with it.

Love this bolo. Best chopping machete i have ever owned. goes through small scrub trees and brush like hot knife through butter, but you most likely will have to sharpen as i did. This is not a machete for the weak of hart , it has forward blade heft to it, which is what makes it such a good chopper! This would also be a devastating zombie weapon. for you wondering about that sort of thing.

I purchased this machete for camping and bushcraft in Florida. The machete arrived in good condition and appears well constructed. I’m impressed by the sheath quality. I haven’t used the machete yet but the knife arrived with a very dull edge and needed to be sharpened prior to my first camp trip with the knife later this week. The edge needed considerable file work to make it usable along the entire cutting surface. I know many machetes come only partially sharpened but wasn’t expecting so much effort to get the knife cutting to expectations. Seems like a good, mid-weight machete with a sturdy sheath but don’t be surprised if the blade needs some work prior to using.

This goes with me into the field every time. I has a great balance and strength. The edge goes away quickly but I would expect that from a cheaper blade. I keep a wetstone in my pack. Great for brush clearing for my forward observers. The straps on the scabbard are great for molle. The velcro is less than adequeate. The handle has discentegrated after a couple days use but not too bad. I have had to tighten the handle down a couple times after abusing it. I let one of my Soldiers use it and he struck some rocks, but the dinges were easily ground out. It is hard enough to cut through 6" tree trunk and soft enough to put a quick egde on. I might be ordering these for an entire unti. Big fan. Overall I think this is a great tool to have out in the field. I take if for all my Army field training and it gets used every time. Still has a lot of life in it. Easy to out and egde back on it.

I love it. It does exactly what it should, cut small vine vegetation or small branches like a champ and sharpen easily. The sheath is what makes this a 5 star. The sheath isn't plastic, but the fabric is well reinforced, and very secure. The sheath zipps almost the whole length making getting it in and out less dangerous, and makes a great secure storage place when compared to the slide in type of sheath.

I tested 3 machetes for opening coconuts and found the medium length Gerber Gator Bolo Machete to be the best length and swing weight for safely opening coconuts. A very nice swing weight ratio which makes it feel more accurate to swing and therefore safer than swinging a blade that is too short or too long. But it still comes down to personal preference and I know some pros who can use any machete... But this one feels just right to me.

Like the functionality of this design. Handle with lanyard feel great even after an hour of continuous cutting, chopping, slashing. Works great on heavy brush especially in the northeast. This bolo will easily chop through small hardwood trees,brush and even chop smaller logs. Only concern is how long will the blade hold up after lots of hard use.

Bought this as a gift for my husband and he loved it. Seems durable, sturdy and came very sharp.
