CHAPIN 97561 Made in the USA 25 Gallon Mixes on Exit 12V, 2.5 GPM Pump ATV/UTV Spot Sprayer with Separate Water Tank Than Concentration Tank to Mix on Demand, Translucent White

Used twice now in two years in the spring to spray my and neighbors yard for broadleaf weeds. I also bought the two nozzle boom made for this tank. Very easy to set up, prime and use. This tank holds 15 gallons of water. We each have just over an acre to spray. I utilize both boom and spot spray gun which is purchased separately from the tank. Tank pump primes great and it’s very easy to find the optimal pressure using the gauge. Mix on exit is a great system since you’re using the large 15 gallon main tank to only hold water and the smaller cassette style tank to hold the chemical you’re using. In other words the chemical is separate from the water and will not enter the water tank. There is a dial next to the pump on top of the water tank that allows for adjustment of how much chemical is needed for your application. Easy to read and understand. The only drawback is there is no way to set the fluid ounce level other then what the dial allows, meaning if your product calls for 1.5 ounces per 1000sq feet you do not have the option to set the dial to that amount. It can only be set at 1, 2, 3, 4 ounces and so on. This is a minor issue as far as I’m concerned. I contacted the chemical company of the product im using and was told they are very familiar with this tank and delivery process and recommend I set the dosage mix at 1 ounce mix instead of 2 ounce mix even though it called for 1.5 ounces. Better lower amount and spray a second time instead of possibly killing my grass with too much product at once. We did this last year and again this year which gave us great coverage and results. I do recommend the mix on exit set up but wish Chapin would reconfigure the dial to allow for half ounce increments. 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and so on. Would make things easier. Just make sure you follow the instructions in the box when setting it up and the instructions with the boom attachment. Make sure your seals are tight to prevent any leaks. I recommend.

Received this in the middle of the week looked forward to getting it hooked up to my Kubota tractor and trailer. Put it together per instructions wired it in filled it up with water in the main tank and the sprayer tank, flipped the switch and pump came on but nothing comes out of the sprayer nozzle. Re-read the basic instructions that came with it, double checked everything. Tanks are both full, switch is selected to prime, all hoses are seated properly and secured, pump is running. NOTHING!!! Have spent 3 hours trying to get it primed with no luck! Troubleshooting guide in manual is crap. Usually able to find helpful videos on YouTube but no luck. Disconnected hose from pump and there is nothing pulling through. I'm usually pretty good at this stuff and definitely not a novice. This is my third 15 gallon tank sprayer and definitely the most expensive I've bought so far. Going to check it with the pump from my old one to see if the Chapin pump is crap. For right now I'm pretty unhappy!!! Update 04/14/19 The week following the review I tore the tank apart and went thru every piece, checked and doouble checked everything. Tested another pump from my old tank with hoses attached to pump to bypass the Chapin setup everything worked perfect except no way to mix chemicals without mixing direct into the tank. pulled the hose that goes from the chemical regulator down into the tank found that it was not sucking any water thru the hose noticed there was a one way check valve on the hose after removing it struck me that the check valve was installed backward. Reversed and re-assembled everything and sprayer works perfect. Good strong stream on the sprayer nozzle and hooked up the old boom from my other tank after a few modifications and it has good pressure with a wide coverage . Re-rated to 4 stars only because I had to go thru so much crap to get it to work good. I would definitely recommend it to anyone with a tractor or ATV. Especially like that the tank has nothing but clean water and I have no waste of chemicals when I want to change from Herbicide to Pesticides.

This is my one year review for the Chapin post mix 25 gallon sprayer. We have 7+ acres that were overrun with an invasive weed two years ago. We bought this system because the ability to change out chemicals with no waste made sense. In the areas were we didn't want anything growing we used a ground clear product and when spraying around trees and bushes that we wanted to keep, we changed out to a pre-emergent. We did use a second chemical tank as it was a bit messy to drain and refill the small tank with different chemicals. We had a manufacture defect that Chapin customer service quickly resolved. They really impressed us with their service after the sale! I will share some tips for working large areas with this sprayer. We purchased a wider spray tip (blue fan tip from Tractor Supply) and added a 50' heavy duty air compressor hose to extend the distance we could get from the tank system. The pump had no problem keeping up with additional hose and this allowed us to work a lot of hard to reach areas without moving the tank. We just completed our second year of chemical application with no issues from the sprayer plus it looks like we are winning the weed wars! Bottom line is this $250 purchase was money well spent. The unique design and customer service from Chapin make this a sprayer that we recommend very highly!

7/24/20- update... I have now used this several times and have tried every setting to adjust the flow of the poison to mix appropriate. I am using just basic round up in the mix tank but it still does not mix the proper ratio. I now have it set to setting 7 which is approx 15oz per gallon. I sprayed 25 gallons of water and the mix tank only distributed approx 10-15oz. I just cannot get this system to work and would strongly advised against purchasing one. You can save money and headache by just buying a standard tank and manually mixing. I have also made multiple calls to the company and they have been of no assistance. They did ship me a new mixing valve (that didn’t work) and after calling back with results, I was told there is nothing else they know to do. I have lowered this review to 1 star because not only is the product faulty, but service was no better. I normally do not write negative reviews because I understand that there can be a lemon in every bunch. I will start with saying, the idea behind this product is outstanding. I was attracted to the idea of switching out the concentrate tanks without having to clean the main tank each time. This idea of auto mixing was great, but the execution is not good and that leads me into the remaining part of this review. I am not saying to not buy this product because for some it may work just fine, however for me and my situation it does not and here is why. The initial setup is fairly easy with minimal screw connections. I do recommend you check or tighten every screw and hose adapter as mine seem to all be loose. Even after my first round of tightening the connections, I still had several leaks from different areas. I was finally able to get it all leak free but not before lots of dissassembly and reassembly. After I got it all setup, I filled my concentrate tank with two gallons of generic round up and 25 gallons of water in the main tank. I sprayed my entire property and emptied the water tank which should have lowered my concentrate tank by at least 2/3rds considering i was on a 3/oz per gallon ratio. My concentrate tank remained nearly full. I could tell the it was pulling poison in to mix, just not at the right ratio. I disassembled every component, cleaned and checked all hoses for kinks and other issues and could find none. I called Chapin and the lady kindly sent me an entire new mix valve and hoses to try. After assembly of the replacement valves I attempted it all again. Again, the same thing happened that all the water was sprayed but still a fairly full tank of poison. I called Chapin again and the lady I spoke to said she has heard of this before with round up and other thicker liquids than water and that there is a email they can send that helps "recalibrate". The instructions as as follows... MOE ATV testing instructions 1. Fill water tank about half way with water 2. Fill chemical tank with chemical you wish to use – tighten cap 3. Turn on unit and adjust flow to optimize and remove any air in the lines (spray into a bucket or an area that is OK with the chemical) 4. Turn off unit 5. Remove the chemical tank and weigh it – record weight in pounds 6. Re-attach chemical tank 7. Set dial to desired setting 8. Turn unit back on 9. Spray into 1 gallon container like a milk container until full 10. Re-weigh chemical tank – record weight in pounds 11. Subtract this 2nd weight from 1st weight - this is the amount of chemical in pounds used in 1 gallon 12. Take this value and multiple by 16 to get ounces/gallon 13. If this value is not desired turn the dial to a higher or lower number and repeat So after many assemblies and disassemblies, 50+ gallons of water in trial, hours spent spraying and working on the unit. I cannot say this is worth purchasing. I feel I would have been better spending my money on a regular tank without all the things attached that will fail. Even though this seems to have a good pump and sprays a good stream, the same can be said for cheaper sprayer pump setups from your local stores. I highly recommend reading other reviews listed on here as I experience the same issues and more. I am not mad by any means, just disappointed this product is not working as described. I really wish it worked as it would make life so much simplier. Again, I wish the best for Chapin and this product, but I will not be a return customer and will end up just pouring my mixing solution in the main tank and using it as any other tank design. If anything changes in the future, I will edit this post to reflect the changes. **for all the people out there that will say to just turn the dial to a higher ratio, while this might work, I for one, do not think I should have to do that when spending $200 for a product that is supposed to do it for me, and two, I do not want to "test" ratio mixes with my concentrate that is not cheap.

I read all of the previous reviews, so I was prepared to have to tighten loose fittings and hose clamps. But when I unpacked my unit, everything was in good shape, and the minor assembly required went without a hitch. I mounted the sprayer to my John Deere 1025R tractor to a front end fork-lift attachment. It was easy to just pop the hood and attach the jumper cable clamps to the battery to power the sprayer's pump. The attached sprayer's hose was long enough to reach to the riders seat on the tractor, and spray to the right and left of the tractor. I put my concentration into the small tank, and filled up the water tank with 15 gallons. I used the sprayer to spray herbicide on my property. The sprayer had enough pressure to reach about 15+ feet from the tractor. The sprayer worked like a champ and I had no problems while using all 15 gallons of water. In summary, the sprayer was easy to assemble, works well on tractors too, and met and exceeded my expectations. I would recommend this product.

It's a nice unit and the instructions to set it up were easy to follow. HOWEVER, after setting it up it wasn't working. It just wouldn't spray. It didn't pump water from the water tank. So they have these valve connections between the hose in the tank that prevents the water going back into the tank once it passes the valve and apparently that valve connector wasn't allowing water to pass through it so it wasn't able to draw water. So I actually removed it completely and put a open barb connector in to reconnect the hose. I turned the pump back on and it sprung a massive leak at the connection point where the water exits the pump. So I looked at it and gave it a gentle tug and the whole thing came out, like the male connector threading was too small for the threaded female receiver. So I could screw it in but it would simply pull out. SO, if you experience that, put on some plumbers tape and screw it on to give it a tight seal, which worked for me and now it finally all works. I sprayed for about 2 hours, which drained my quad battery, so I had to put it on the charger that night. but ya, you have to go slow to get a good spray layer and in doing so, it eats up more power from the battery than what the quad produces on its own. So it was frustrating as you expect things to work upon receiving them. Setup became an unwanted project as I was trying to beat the sunset to spray and ended up spending a lot of time trouble shooting and then fixing these issues. Other than that it has a good spray. Covers a nice wide range.

I originally gave this product a 1-star, highly upset review. The pump arrived DOA and we spent 3 full days making numerous calls to Chapin - as instructed in the product manual - and leaving call-back messages into a phone-tree void. About the time we had completely lost confidence that Chapin would ever contact us to make good on this essential component of the sprayer system and I had activated a dispute with my credit card company to refund us the amount of the entire order, my son-in-law told us to call Amazon. This was the complete and painless solution! The rep I talked with promptly re-ordered the entire product (we had hoped to just return the pump but he apologized for not being able to do that as it was a bundled product) and sent us a UPS label to print and return the defective system. The replacement system arrived in 3days (I was quietly skeptical when he gave me a 3-day ETA but he proved right) and functions perfectly. I cancelled the claim with my credit card company and we are now back on schedule to deal with our weed issues. So, the moral of this short story is ... CALL AMAZON, not the manufacturer, if there's a problem with your purchase.

I purchased this sprayer because I wanted the flexibility to apply various treatments while containing the number of sprayers needed. I read the reviews and made sure to check all of the connections to ensure they were tight. I ran into problem 1 right away. The disconnects at the primary connectors didn’t withstand the pressure from the pump - they popped out as soon as the pump primed and came up to pressure. I found and reinserted the small clip that retains those disconnects. It continued to pop out so I zip tied it to hold it on. After that it worked for a bit. During my last spray of the season I ran into problem two which is the headline and shouldn’t be possible. I spray a bumpy uneven terrain with my UTV. During one of the bumps I hit the concentrate somehow managed to back flush into the main tank. I know this because I use a blue dye to see my spray pattern and I suddenly had blue water in my main water tank. The whole point of this product is that it only mixes on exit. So how did it back flush concentrate into the main tank? This is extremely disappointing for this product. It has great potential but the quality control is severely lacking. I’ll post photos shortly.

This unit works perfectly to allow me to provide effective weed control by boom or wand. I mounted it on a wooden sled that slides into the yard trailer. I found the drain to be problematic but replaced the cheap plastic cap with a brass 1” ball valve and no more drips. I have a second tank for concentrate that I have filled with water for rinsing after spraying. Keeping the unit filled with water maintains the prime and it takes just a minute to swap the pony tank, set the mix ratio and get spraying. As soon as spraying is done, the pony tank with water is returned and the lines are rinsed. So far I have no issues and the mixing unit appears to be working well. I can raise the boom level for running through the pastures or lower down to spray the lawn. I am quite pleased with the unit as it works well and the pony tank avoids the need to rinse the big tank after spraying.
