Right size for muffins, good spring
This stainless scoop is exactly what I was looking for to make filling muffin cups easier, cleaner and more accurate. It works beautifully as an ice cream/gelato/sherbet scoop and also as a large cookie scoop for all kinds of cookie doughs including macaroons. My Norpro cookie size scoop has been used heavily for about 3 years and I expect this one to be just as sturdy. So far, the size, quality, ergonomics, function and cleaning are all 5 stars. Cleaning: The stainless scoop cleans easily in the bottom utensil rack of the dishwasher. Just place it handle-side down and you'll have a nice, clean scoop. For stubborn stuck or dried-on dough, simply soak the scoop and then toss in the dishwasher. Function: This is a nice, smooth moving scoop with a spring that allows for easy dispensing of mixes. The 'scraper' does a great job of easily liberating dough from the scooper bowl. The scoop also handles ice cream beautifully, especially when warmed in a cup of hot water. Ergonomics: I have a rather small hand so it was important for the handle to be a reasonable size. The length of the handle is just right, the width of the 'arms' on the scoop are just right. The size of the grip and the tension of the spring keep hands from tiring during marathon baking sessions. Quality: Sturdy, thick stainless steel with strong, well-made hinges and a nice, strong spring. Norpro makes a scoop that lasts. Size: The size works for me. If you'll be using this to determine accurate cost measures for sales, of course you'll want to weigh a scoop of each product and proceed accordingly. I find it to be the most accurate method of portioning. The scoop provides a uniform portion every time. In short, this is a great scoop for occasional or heavy use and you can't beat the price!

Endless Uses - Kitchen Essential
This one and a half teaspoon stainless steel scoop has endless uses. After it arrived, I gave the scoop a test run by preparing little flavored butter balls from softened butter and herbs. Once formed and slightly chilled I piled them on a small serving dish. The butter balls added a special touch to the dinner table. I ordered the scoop because I plan to make large ravioli for the holidays and it is the perfect size for the filling. Since ordering it I've also made truffles, something far easier accomplished using this implement than my previous tool -- a melon baller. That utensil produced ganache balls of different sizes, some smaller, some bigger and required more hand rolling to get a genuine ball shape. Anyone who has hand rolled ganache, knows this is a messy proposition. This scoop is solid and the balls, whether cookie batter, ganache, butter, or homemade tiny cheese balls are all consistently sized without manipulation. Relatively solid items, like ice cream, butter or ganache are rolled within the scoop to form a ball. With batter, the scoop is dipped in and scraped against the bowl to form a consistent portion to drop on a cookie sheet, in a muffin tin, etc. The handle is comfortable in the hand and the quality of the material is evident. Because the scoop is constructed of stainless steel, it can be dipped in warm or cold water or gently chilled or heated (depending upon what is being created)to control temperature and ensure easy release. I own four larger sized scoops and they all have their special jobs but I keep reaching for this small one -- and ideas for new uses keep flowing. A small scoop may not be the first kitchen utensil that comes to mind when thinking of basic tools, but it has quickly become much used in my kitchen and reinvigorated my love of cooking.

Great scoop
I love this little scoop. It has increased my cookie baking 10 fold, easily. I always hated messing with a tablespoon and trying to get the amounts for each cookie just right. With this, I have no more problems with cookie size and partitioning out the dough is much easier. The scoop feels sturdy, but not heavy. It feels substantial, like it will take some abuse. Definitely not flimsy or cheap feeling, which I was worried about. I was on the fence between getting the 1tbsp and the 2tbsp scoop, but I'm glad I got this one. For my cookies 1tbsp is plenty, and if I want to make giant cookies, I simply scoop once, put in my off hand, scoop again, and mix the two balls together. 1tbsp usually gives me cookies about an 1.5" - 2" wide, which is plenty big. The packaging doesn't say this isn't dishwasher safe, but it does say "hand washing recommended". I hand washed a few times, but after that I started putting in the dishwasher. I usually try to remove it from the dishwasher as soon as the cycle is done to minimize the time it's in the humid environment, but that's been working well for me so far. No change in function or rust to speak of.

It's nice and heavy
Measuring cup cake batter into those little paper cups is a challenge - and eyeballing it never works very well. The major use for this Norpro Stainless Steel Scoop with be for making cup cakes and muffins. I think it will shave several minutes off prep time. It's nice and heavy, the mechanism works very well - it's SOLID, well made. I also have a small one for the bite sized cakes! It's probably a tool you won't use every day, but you'll sure be glad you have it when you need it! I ~~ deb I wanted to come back and add that I've used this to make meatballs; it's great because they all come out the same size so bake evenly! It made the job go really quickly. So, next time you make meatloaf, double your recipe and make meatballs from half, bake and freeze them. If you like the flavor of your meatloaf, you'll like the flavor of your meatballs & it's always nice to have a meal or two in the freezer!

Norpro vs others
This Size 24 scoop is made by INOX (Germany?) and appears to be the same scoop branded by popular kitchenware home-sales company that thinks it is pampering you at full retail price. See the etchings inside the handle. Pros: 1. Strong, quality, commercial scoop for nice big cookies. 2. Much smoother mechanism than the comparable OXO Large Cookie Scoop I ordered from Amazon. (But perhaps the OXO I got was a lemon. I tried a medium OXO scoop at a local store that seemed okay.) Personal Preference Cons: 1. I was aiming for a Size 20 scoop, but this has a "24" etched in the rotating scraper. 2. The handles are a bit wider than my favorite vintage Intedge scoops, which I don't think you can buy anymore. It's thus harder to squeeze than my favorite Intedge scoop, but I think it's still doable. That might be a different story if I were making cookies in bulk on a regular basis. I want to order a Zeroll Size 20 scoop and regift this. In the meantime I am doing double-40s for my favorite cookie recipe. Not sure about Zeroll's longterm durability, but at least they're the best for offering every size.

Great for homemade meatballs
Have a similar scooper for cookies, and wanted one for home made meatballs. Works great and is easy to use and clean.

Good Addition to My Tools
This came a day after I needed it…but it’s such a fine tool that I kept it. It has proven handy for more than originally thought…muffins, large cookies, potato salad, ice cream…sturdy & easy to clean.
