Good book for the basics. My top five pool books: The Advanced Pro Book (for very skilled players), Play Your Best Pool, Mosconi’s Pocket Billiards, Aiming Pool Shots, and Precision Pool.

Good advice for the beginner, but serious grammar problems throughout
For the beginner/intermediate, Allan Sand has put together a decent collection of advice. If you play in APA league and are ranked a 5 or less, this book has much of what you probably need (aside from consistent and thoughtful practice) to start beating some of the 6's. In my experience, people don't move up from level 5 without good defensive play.My major gripe with the book is the utterly deficient grammar. There are places you may not be able to figure out what the author is trying to say, and there are embarrassing lapses of intelligibility on nearly every page. While this seems to undermine the credibility of the author, it is important to remember that language proficiency accounts for about 0% of strong billiards play. Unfortunately, he is trying to sell a book, and intelligibility is a pretty important feature of that endeavor. You decide. To the author: find an unemployed English graduate (they are everywhere), and pay them $100 to proofread this book, and quickly release a new edition. That should do the trick.

Win more games today!
Alan, along with joining your book club on your billiardgods.com website , I bought your book on "Basic Defense". I was already a pretty solid "straight shooter" but kept losing to guys who would slow me down with their defensive strategy. My team-mates kept saying, you gotta learn safety play. In the the past i thought that a safety meant you you had to lay down an airtight snooker, like you see the players do on TV. Finding your book taught me that by using the natural lay of the table and leaving distance and tough angles would get me more shots per game and more wins...well...it's working! Your little book changed my game! I am staying in the game with higher ranked players and pulling out some surprising wins! Thank you..can't wait to see what your next book teaches me...Tom

Good Book
Book is awesome! Very easy to read and applies to what I would call bar room pool. It isn't written overly technical like some expert books. This book doesn't make you feel like you need to spend hours and hours practicing to become a better player. Rather it gives you basic fundamentals that you can put into practice while at your local bar room or pool hall to win more games and wow your buddies.

Don't Bother
Don't bother, nothing makes sense, is poorly written and no one bothered to edit or correct typos. a waste of paper.
