(+) Excellent dictionary-like book explaining the foundation astrological concepts needed to understand the primary functioning components of a chart, such as diurnal or nocturnal sect, how planets cast rays/aspects, chart rulers, and angular strengths. A must for both eastern and western astrologers as these concepts are foundational for understanding how, and at what level, planetary strengths manifest. (-) Only down side is that James Holden's translations can be at time too wordy and convoluted, making certain portions of the book a little mind-bending.

Ce texte a une valeur historique et est censé éclairé certains points obscurs du traité clé du Prince des AstrologuesLa traduction est bien faite avec une bonne mais brève introduction et suffisamment de notes de bas de pages. Certains mots techniques ou abscons auraient pu être mieux commentés. Mais comme de telles traductions ne sont pas légion…

2009年刊ですが、翻訳者ジェイムス・ホールデンは2000年の時点で個人的に親密な人達にのみ閲覧提示をなさっていたという一冊、全73ページ。58ページまでを占める、哲学者ポルフュリオス（ポーフィリー、234～304頃）の著書"Introduction to the Tetrabiblos"（三世紀末）はクラウディオス・プトレマイオス（プトレミー､100～178）が名著"Tetrabiblos"において十分説明し尽くさなかったとポルフュリオスが考える占星術の基礎項目につき補足説明を全55章に亘り行っている著書ですが、ホールデンが序文で指摘なさっている通り、実際の内容は占星術辞典の趣きになっています。19章、リフラネーションを説明する文章はこの頃のものとしては珍しいであろう、ホラリー占星術への言及のようでおもしろい。かのプロティノスに師事なさった哲学者でもありながら占星術への興味をも有していたポルフュリオスの名は、占星術史上三番目に成立したと（2018年時点で）言われるハウス・システムであります、ポーフィリー・ハウス・システムで知られていますが、ジュリウス・フィルミクス（285～360）など後世の占星術家にも多大な影響を与えた人物でもあるようです。59ページ以降はアレクサンドリアのセラピオ（=紀元前1世紀?に活躍）が書いた、占星術上の定義が収録されています。
