The King of tomatoes: this is how the San Marzano tomato has been called from Italian and international cuisine. As many as 24 farmers members of DANIcoop are dedicated exclusively to the cultivation of San Marzano, in areas protected by the DOP specification. It is a beloved tomato in all areas of the kitchen: the master pizza makers prefer it for their pizzas (in particular the Margherita); the chefs use it for great Italian specialties, such as the Neapolitan Ragu. Limited production. Ingredients: San Marzano Peeled Tomatoes, San Marzano Tomato Juice. Recommended preparations: Neapolitan pizza, especially pizza Margherita and Marinara; great sauces of the peasant and Italian tradition; Neapolitan ragout. Gross weight: 500 Gr. Net weight: 400 Gr. Review: Superior Quality - I didn't realise there would actually be such a difference between tinned tomatoes. These were expensive but I thought I would bite the bullet and try them. You may not notice anything unless you were looking for it, but I found the flavour, density and quality of these tomatoes far superior to the normal run of the mill ones. The juice is a lot thicker too. Apparently the authentic San Marzano tomatoes are grown in volcanic earth in a particular region of Italy and that's what enhances the flavour. The tins should also show two particular round authentication marks. If not, they are not pure San Marzano. But that is not to say they aren't good. Cheaper but good quality tins are fine for everyday use, but if you want perfection, then this is the product to go for.
