I"m a very nervous pet mom. The idea of hurting my animal even one bit just tears me to pieces. I"ve never had to clip my older dog"s nails because she never stops running and they naturally get ground down by the earth. My puppy on the other hand, I"m pretty sure her nails are made out of diamond or something because they are sharp and super hard and do not wear down, even if she spends her whole day running. So I was really relieved to have a pair of high quality clippers with a length guard on them. Luckily she has short quicks, but since I"m inexperienced I really like the extra measure of having the safety guard.Her tough little nails didn"t stand a chance.The grips feel really nice, they"re padded and fit well in your hand. There"s also a lock on the grips that keeps them closer together, which I suppose would be helpful when trimming tiny little cat nails, and just generally making the product tighter for storage purposes. The length guard can be flipped down, you aren"t obligated to use it. I like these clippers a lot, and I feel a lot more confident using these than I have with any other ones I"ve tried.

My cat is pretty tolerant with me doing stuff to him, so he was accepting of me pushing his nails out to get the job done. They cut through his nails like butter! Such a smooth and even cut, and it didn"t disturb him much! That was excellent for me since I didn"t know how he would react. He was a little irritated at the process, but the clippers were so easy to use and did such a good job that it was all over in no time and he was off playing again! So, for a first time user, and for use on a cat that had never had it"s nails clipped, it was a great experience and a great product! I would definitely recommend these to anyone, experienced or inexperienced. (Side note, I"m not sure how well they would work on a dog, but they were GREAT for a cat!)

We bought these nail trimmers for my very nervous, split prone jack, Lilly. We have tried everything. We"ve tried dozens of nail clippers (these would split her nails and often would not cut all the way through the first time) , a dremel (very noisy and stressful for LilIy), more frequent walks on the pavement, and groomers (expensive and her nails would still get split).These are the only clippers that I have found that cuts through the nail without effort and does not split her nails. The nail guard is very convenient and I don"t have to worry so much about cutting her quick. Her nails are very long now so I"m following the instructions and cutting just a little bit off each week to let the quick recede.I am very happy with this purchase.

When I start to pinch and see the nail give a little I immediately let go and that"s where I"d stop. Out of all ten toes I only got the very tip of a quick. No blood, but I could see a pin size spot of liquid. To finish I clipped off a little layer of the thick top side which rounds it out and supposedly helps the quick recede. To first timers from a first timer, the key is to just go little by little. It took me over half an hour. I had it easy though because my dog is old and just laid there the whole time.For as long as I"ve known him his nails hit the floor. Now he is so "stealthy" and I love the sound of his pads on the floor. He now has more traction to help him get up. I highly recommend this product!

If you need a pair of claw clippers for your dog or cat, look no further!! I purchased these for my toy yorkie as we moved to a very remote location in another state and I needed to learn how to trim her black claws myself. Less is best is the motto here. There is a safety option if you need it but I was able to do it safely without it and she did really well. But the real test?? I have a 12 year old rag doll cat who hates having her claws trimmed to the point of shrieking and biting. I purchased these safari claw trimmers and she sat quietly and let me complete the task! We have 2 dogs, an English Cocker spaniel (slight mental) and a Golden Retriever (who doesn"t retrieve and doesn"t like water..).. I bought this on a whim after the 2 trimmers I bought at the big pet store didn"t do the job, were way more expensive and felt positively flimsy... This clipper is solid, very sturdy, and cuts through my golden"s nails (thick black nails) like butter.. It has a nail length guard to prevent you from clipping too much. If we can get him to sit still (he hates having his nails clipped), it really takes one try, and about 1/8th of the nail is gone. Love the clipper. And it"s cheap!!Best buy!.

Best nail clipper I"ve used. It has a rotating shield that, when in place, limits how much nail can fit and be cut off. I do it every two weeks for front paws, every 4 weeks for all paws. It cuts cleanly, my dog doesn"t wince, and no bleeding because it"s impossible to cut off too much. Of course, if i did it EVERY week, then it would cut to the quick as the nails must grow the proper amount before cutting again. Thus, I found the two and four week intervals work best. It fits in his travel bag so I can cut them when we take Bentley on vacation with us. No more pain, just gain. I like this nail trimmer a lot.
