Great
Such a wonderful look into his life. This helped my boys to see history as reality and not just boring facts. They were moved by the lives of our founding fathers.

Inaccurate
My daughter was assigned this book as part of a Junior High American history class. It's well below the reading level for her age, but I don't mind that as she was supposed to read it in two weeks and she has a large stack of books to read for this class. Some of them are easy reads. However, the big problem I have with this book regards the issue of slavery. The slaves in this book are simply called servants, or "the men helping in the field" or some other vague expression. Never are they called slaves. I think the word choice is rather important. In some of the illustrations, you can't even tell that they're black. The Jefferson family definitely owned slaves and did not employ "servants" to work in the fields. I'm very unhappy this book was chosen. Even young children can be told that yes, they owned slaves and no, that's not ok, but Jefferson was a complicated person and also was in favor of ending slavery at certain points in his life and he still did some good things at the beginning of our country. Or some explanation like that.
