Tatting Collage

This book is a nice departure from the usual tatting guide. There are scores of books out there for traditional medium-to-large tatting projects, and tatting purists should have no problem finding the complex motifs they crave. For absolute beginners, there are great tatting tutorials on YouTube and various blogs, with a handful of (free!) small projects that can help them get started with the basics and hone their skill.For the rest of us, this is a book that helps bring an old craft into a modern world. This book allows you to create unique, modular pieces; when you are on the go, you can take just the module you are working on, and a bit of thread for a few more in case that line at the BMV is longer than you expected. Tatting was already a portable craft; this book makes it absurdly, ridiculously, BEAUTIFULLY portable! Poor knitters...lugging around a tote bag of bulky fiber and sharp pointy objects, while I have an entire ancient craft in a pouch in my jeans pocket. :) (Just kidding, knitters...I have a few books and I hope to join your ranks soon!)I am eager to recreate one or two of the collages in this book. I cannot wait to start creating collages with my own artistic touch. And I relish the chance to keep a handful of these tiny works of art on hand, so I can share a bit of this craft with the curious stranger who asks me, "What is that weird thing you are doing with your hands?" It is a great opportunity to keep an old skill alive in the 21st century, and this book will help tremendously.

Tatting Collage helps open up creativity. When you use tatting as a medium to build a landscape for a pillow or garden for a card you will find yourself inspired to mix this media in ways you may not have considered before. I'm headed off to my local ceramics shop this summer and intend to modify green ware so that I can incorporate tatted embellishments for Yule decorations. The possibilities are endless :-)

I liked the design ideas, many I have not seen before. But the book is for small projects, and very limited.

For beginning tatters and tatters who toy with design. The elements presented in this book are small and simple, allowing the tatter to arrange them in pleasant combinations. It's a nice switch from highly structured, time-consuming tatting patterns.

a day late. I thought it was because of the winter storms, but since it shipped from 70 miles away in columbia sc, there was no winter storm. it laid a day in concord nc and did not move for over 24 hours. My 2 day prime took 3 days.The book itself is beautiful. I like the spiral binding because i can lay the book open while working a pattern. And Lindsay has wonderful patterns.

I loved the picture on the front of the book, but the patterns are actually for little pieces of the pictures, then you create your own scenes. Collage, makes sense, right?Anyway, the bits and pieces are charming and you can make great scenes, or incorporated the pieces into your own designs.

Only skimmed it, but loved what I saw. Especially how it showed you combining them for a scene. Definitely going to try the bonsai trees once I learn the process.

I love this book. There are tons of patterns for small items that I can make with the remaining thread on my shuttle. Plan to make cards with all the flowers, leaves, butterflies and all that I have tatted. I really like the spiral binding which makes the book much easier to use while tatting.

If you are just learning to Tat then this is not the book for you. However, if you have got the hang of it then it gives great ideas to use this craft for things other than the more traditional items like collars that lets be frank no one really wants these days. if you like concise instructions then is probably not for you either, as some of the components for the projects need a little careful interpretation to get the desired result. So I feel it is more of a resource book to use tatting to make distinctive one off art items as you can use the designs to make mixed media works. Overall though I am very pleased with this little book and it's excellant value for the price, four stars only because the project instructions are not clear to follow.

This is a terrific book with plenty of projects and designs. This is taking starting in new directions. Each separate pattern is covered individually and is clearly explained and illustrated. The patterns are then combined to make beautiful pictures. Not a book for beginners as there is an assumption of knowledge of the basics of tatting.

I am just learning to Needle Tat.. This is a stunning book with lots of excellent info.. diagrams. pics & idea's.. So glad that I bought this.. Cant wait to get to grips with the needle Tatting.. even the shuttle tatting book patterns can be adapted to be used with the needle tatting.. once I've learnt the basics... Highly recommend to all you like minded Tatters xxxx

Bought this book as a present for a relative who'd had it on 'permanent' loan from the Library!A well laid out book, with excellent instructions and good photo's although some may find them a little small. Not a book for beginners though.
