Vic Firth American Concept Freestyle 5A Drumsticks

I was on the search for a new stick. My favorite brand made changes and durability went to crap. I came across these at an event, the church's drummer was using them and they felt great in my hand. Weight, the added length, just felt right. I ordered a set for myself. After a week of using them, I decided they weren't for me, due to the extra added lenght, I have settled on the 8D Extreme model, but would still recommend these, especially if you want a little extra reach.

Ever since I tried the questlove Vic Firth drumstick I really liked it. With the length that had it made playing feel easier and the same goes for these. Got them in a 5A but might be willing to try out a 7A too. Very nice chopsticks!

Love Vic Firth sticks. I’ve been playing with them for years. Over the last 6 years I’ve used the AJ1 or AJ2. They are light and fast so I was interested in the freestyle 5a as to how they would feel being an inch longer. I’m not a fan of a standard 5a. These took some getting used to but I really like them. They are heavier but after playing with them a bit I found that extra weight and length to come in handy. I let the stick do more and the results are sweet. I feel like I upped my chops 10%.

Nice and sturdy, easy to use, GREAT first pair of sticks! My son uses them on everything (including his electric drum kit) and they are holding up wonderfully so far, with a great sound.

The sticks are almost a full inch longer than a standard size stick, reaching just over 16" long. The taper is a more narrow taper, more gradual than typical. Nice balance and feel for Jazz.

You really can't say anything bad about Vic? Drumsticks definitely worth the money highly recommended

Not as durable as other sticks, tips chip Easily. The sticks are lightweight compared to other similar sticks

Love the feel of these sticks most of the time but there's a wide range of weights they come in. The last pair I got was 3.8oz total, where the pair prior was 4.3.oz total. That's a big difference. Although I love these sticks, I really dont wish to pay full price for trial and error. Of 3 pairs I bought, 1 vastly different weight than the other two. I haven't experienced this from Vic Firth before, and I've been using them for a good 25 years. I just started using these "freestyle" sticks this year. I don't know what's up over there - but I'm not very happy with my latest purchases as the weights have been all over the place, so I'm thinking I should try and find some other options. I don't want to - but what's a guy gonna do when they keep showing up at vastly different weights...

I’ve got a few pairs of sticks from different brands but have used Vic Firths before and like them. I bought a pair of the Dave Grohl signature stick by Zildjian and liked the extra length, then saw these and thought I’d give them a try. These for me are perfect, long with a longer than usual taper and 5a tip means they are perfect for my playing style. Genuinely great sticks, really great feel, balance and response. My new favourite sticks
