I bought this as a gift for a friend who had been in the army. I have the Sailor's Bible and the Marine's Bible; the Sailor's for myself as a former sailor (USN: 1961-1965, RD3, USS Point Defiance(LSD-31)). I keep a Marine's Bible on hand to be able to show to other people as I encourage our American citizens to buy these and give them to our men and women in the armed services. I like the concept of these bibles as they have a place up front for the owner to record important events and they have special prayers from the services and outstanding military men such as Lt. General and actor James Stewart. They are tough, with a strong vinyl hide and a closure clasp, compact and useful. I have given several as gifts and the Marines in Iraq tell me how special they are to them. The same for the soldier's. I like the entire series and as a gift, they are a special way to say a heartfelt and well received thank you to any and all of our service people. This one is army green with the US Army seal on the cover. The whole series is very good and each one that I have bought has a special place in my heart. The version is standard King James so it is familiar to me and will probably be familiar to most soldiers who purchase it or get it as a gift.Stephen Joe Payne

I first saw one of these bibles at a PX and considered making a purchase then. My son had purchased a bible for use while on the base but it was old KJV & he was having a hard time following the chaplain during Sunday service. I decided to pass on the purchase because it was a bit cost prohibitive.Shopping around for this bible I found it here at Amazon. The cost was a fraction of what the PX had it priced at. I placed the order, with the idea of being able to see the special features that were advertized on the box. The size of this bible was important in making this purchase. He will be able to take it with him anywhere he goes in this world. Bonded leather is durable & I decided that if he took care of it, that it would last a long time. It's also a contemporary version, written for understanding by today's Soldier.There are small biographies & prayers by prominent members of the military & former Presidents. Besides being the Word of God, it also notes God's plan of Salvation & contains recommended reading & devotionals.My son has taken this to services with him, used it in the barracks bible study & has thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm planning to purchase the Sailor's Holman Bible, for my older son who is a Veteran.I highly recommend this bible for any service person who wants an easy to understand, small bible.

Bought this as a gift for a friend. Excellent bible. Easy to carry with you, has both the Old & New Testaments. I really like the HCSV translation as it is filled with footnotes to help in understanding with the literal hebrew/greek meaning. Awesome section in the back filled with Military prayers and prayers/speeches of famous military personnel. My Marine version served me well in Afghanistan, bought this one for my Army friend. It will serve him well too.

I am a retired soldier, and wish something like this would have been available when I was on active duty. This is a modern up-to-date translation, which is very readable. It is small enough to be easy to carry along anywhere. My only critique is that the printing is of inconsistent darkness. The print is small, which is understood with a pocket-sized version of any Bible. Some pages are nice and dark and others are a little gray or washed out. It can make it a little hard to read. Great pick for a gift for a soldier or a retired one.

It's inexpensive, easily replaced if lost or destroyed, and better yet, you can afford to send copies to those you know who needs to read the Word of God, seeking His comfort and protection in difficult circumstances. Handy size, readable type, and can be laid flat for study, it's reasonably rugged and fit for the purpose intended. I've sent them to men I'm mentoring deployed overseas or in our prison system. All, including a man going back for his fourth deployment since I sent him the first copy in 2006, have remarked on its compact size and ease of use. The patriotic messages included in this edition are also inspiring to those who are using the books for serious study and their daily devotionals.

It has been 5 days since I placed my order and I have had zero contact. I even sent the seller a message inquiring into the status of my order and received no response. This seemed like a great deal, but I'm now very skeptical. The product was listed in "like new" condition, but I now find that hard to believe, considering the unreliability so far. If I do not hear from the seller soon, I plan on filing a claim

This is the second Soldiers' Bible I have purchased (the first was the New Testament only) and this is ideal for me as a Soldier in Iraq. The design of the Bible allows it to easily fit into a cargo pocket, the side closure helps to protect the pages, and if you slip it into a plastic bag its almost indestructible.In addition to the complete Bible (Holman Bible, which I feel is easier to understand than other translations) this Bible includes a topical index, the Code of Conduct, and testimonials from historically significant military leaders.This bible is a great utilitarian reference for those in uniform.
