In My Nav-Kit Now
I have sailed since I was a teenager [a LONG time ago].For most of those years, I was involved in navigating the boat/ship I was on.These days, I sail on Other People's Boats [OPBs].Hopefully, I am the navigator, since my days as a hand on the foredeck are long past.Sailing on various OPBs, I found that on-board navigation tools varied.I wanted a set of my own compass/dividers that I could bring to the boat....NOTE: [I also bring a chartbook, a GPS, and a W&P Vectormaster]That set needed to be -- compact, but accurate. [These tools need to work.] -- in its own 'case' [don't want those divider points poking holes in my seabag -- to say nothing of my GPS]. -- inexpensive enough that I didn't need to panic if I discover I left it on board after a race or passage.This set meets those criteria.IMO, it is the soft plastic 'case' that makes this work.A leather [cordura?] case would be even better, and worth paying more.

Nice, but leads are too short in relation to steel points
These comments are regarding the compass:High quality, good feel, appropriate level of drag on the adjusting wheel. Nice that the points are replaceable.Two issues I have experienced over the last two years of use:1) At its shortest, the 25 mm long steel point protrudes 8 mm. At its longest, a new 12 mm long lead protrudes 9 mm. So, after using 5 or 6 mm of lead, the lead and the point cannot be adjusted to be even approximately the same length and it becomes hard to draw small arcs (large ones are not so affected). I wish W&P would cut 5 mm off the point and doubled the length of their leads.2)While travelling I have somehow had the thumb wheels for the sleeves which hold the point and the lead in place come loose and get lost. Consequently I now disassemble them before travelling to sail overseas. (Pro tip: Put these in your checked luggage to avoid security hassles in countries which prohibit the sharp steel points)
