Tres Chic: More French Singers of the 1960's / Various

Worthy follow up to Ace Records' first installment of Sixties French Yé-yé chanteuses "C'est Chic! French girl singers of the 1960's". These songs are very entertaining and sometimes quite funny. La Fermeture Éclair by obscure Belgian singer Delphine is a case in point: she sings about the guy whose intentions she distrusts, so she keeps an eye firmly fixed on his "fermeture éclair".Anna Karina sings a Serge Gainsbourg classic, Françoise Hardy a pleasantly melancholic "Comment te Dire Adieu" (also by Gainsbourg), British song stress Gillian Hills sings in English and French, and France Gall does a charming jazzy pop song with "Jazz à Go Go" while Jacqueline Taieb does an English rendition of her self-penned French rocker "7 heures du matin" (which in my opinion is better then this English version.)Worth mentioning: Anne Kern, Michele Arnaud, Annie Phillippe...The third disc in this series has just been issued, I read recently. Can't wait!

I had bought the first Tres Chic! CD a year before and loved it and this follow up CD is great with a selection of more "swinging sixties" songs. The artists are a wide range of popular French singers of the time including love ballads, pop songs and even a jazzy fast paced Beat arrangement sung by France Gall. Groovy compilation of the ye-ye girls!

The music is pretty good ye-ye - I like the C'est Chic record a little better, but maybe this will grow on me. I did want to say - because this is nowhere in the description - the vinyl edition of this is really really nice. Gatefold, with great color pictures and information on the inside. The vinyl itself is nice and thick and blue marbled! Really pretty. Worth it even if you only like one or two songs and are a vinyl hound.

It is exactly as the title says, more French girl singers of the 60's. And what great singers! Francoise Hardy, Brigitte Bardot, Annie Phillippe, Anna Karina. If you are a fan of great 60's pop, you will love this!

The musical tunes and melody just did not do much for me, but i did like some of the voices.

Grabbed this album on a whim, fired up a Gauloise in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower and sauntered off to find the baguette of my dreams. Sorry, off in dreamland for a second. Vintage French pop music does that to me. Billed as "groovy 60s pop as only the ye-ye girls of France knew how", Tres Chic! captures gems from Francoise Hardy, France Gall, Anna Karina, even Brigitte Bardot, among others.

Well I went to France three times and I love everything that's french it's a dam shame I am English but I ordered the french pop series CDs brings me back to the french days thank you

Mince, et dire que c'est des Anglais qui sortent ça ! Les gars ont fait le tri et dépotent de manière assez hallucinante 24 titres incroyables chantées par de jeunes et jolies donzelles dans les sixties dans la langue de Molière. C'est constamment délicieux et on tombe même bien souvent sur de géniales pépites. Le truc, c'est que tous les morceaux sont frais, insouciants, naïfs et fun et, surtout, groovy. A part deux incongruités un peu plus folk chantées en anglais par Gillian Hills (la jolie fille sur la pochette), le reste est invariablement pop, parfois à tendance psyché (ah, l'année 1967) mais toujours swinguant. Il y a bien sûr quelques gainsbourgeries: les très connues "Comment Te Dire Adieu" par Françoise Hardy, "Les Papillons Noirs" par Michèle Arnaud ou encore "Sous Le Soleil Exactement" par Anna Karina qui clôt idéalement la compilation mais aussi les plus obscures "Attends Ou Va-t'en" par France Gall (très très bon) et "Au Risque De Te Déplaire" par Marie-Blanche Vergne. La grande Jacqueline Taïeb est également de la fête avec un incroyable "Bravo" ou une adaptation en anglais de son grand classique "7 Heures Du Matin" qui devient "7 Am". Citons aussi Pussy Cat pour un irrésistible "Hymne Au Soleil" et sa reprise des Small Faces "Sha La La La Lee" transformé en "Ce N'est Pas Une Vie". En parlant de reprise, il y a également cette incroyable et magique version du "In The Past" des méconnus mais pourtant excellents We The People (foncez vous procurer le Cd "Too Much Noise" pour découvrir cet immense groupe) sous le titre "La Fermeture-éclair" par Delphine. Grandiose et irrésistible. Gillian Hills nous propose un troisième morceau excellent, très Jacqueline Taïeb (rappelons que cette dernière écrit entièrement, paroles et musiques, ses chansons), "Tut, Tut, Tut, Tut". On peut encore citer Violaine pour deux excellents titres, "J''ai Des Problèmes Décidément", délicieux, et "Il N'a Que Des Chansons". On ne fait pas l'impasse sur Brigitte Bardot avec son croquignolet "Je Danse Donc Je Suis" mais en vérité on pourrait tout citer. Les arrangements sont souvent de haut vol et on se dit qu'on savait donc faire de bien belles choses ici aussi. Pas la moindre des surprises dans ce disque est de nous faire aimer France Gall: il y a le morceau de Gainsbourg déjà cité mais également un incroyable "Jazz A Gogo" (cosigné par Alain Goraguer). Certes, France Gall n'est pas Ella mais elle sidère sur ce titre par rapport à ce qu'on connait d'elle habituellement. Enfin, l'agencement des morceaux est très bien vu: on passe d'un titre à l'autre comme dans un rêve, on est sans cesse ébahis, allant de surprise en surprise, de morceau incroyable à un autre tout aussi sensationnel, ça fait mouche constamment. Ah, cet exquis "Le Même Jour" de Valérie Lagrange". Oh, cet adorable "Pas De Taxi" par Annie Philippe (son "On M'a Toujours Dit" qui ouvre la compile est tout-à-fait charmant également). Il faudrait tout citer, vous dis-je ! Vraiment excellent (et c'est le deuxième volume, ça, madame). Bon, en attendant, il parait que les L5 se reforment. Qui ? Oui, moi aussi, ça m'a fait ça...

Cest Chic: French Girl Singers of the 1960s  に引き続きUKの懐メロレーベル、エースから出された60年代半ばから末にかけてのフランスの若手女性歌手の歌を集めたものです。　知ってる名前（フランス・ギャル/ブリジッド・バルドー/アンナ・カリーナ）は見かけるものの有名な曲を避ける傾向は前回と同様ですが、今回はフレンチ・ポップスに詳しくなくても日本で馴染みが深い曲、フランソワーズ・アルディの「さよならを教えて」が含まれています。ユーミン作曲の「まちぶせ」の翻案になったと言われれば確かになるほどと思わせるもので、日本のニューミュージック系の人がフレンチ・ポップスの汗臭くないおしゃれ感からも影響を受けたのがわかります。米英のロックなどから影響を受けつつもイージーリスニング的なオーケストラが入ることでロックの尖った角がとれた感じになったところで、シャンソンの伝統を引き継ぐフランス語の語感を響かせるフランス流軽音楽「イエ・イエ」などの雰囲気は、日本でも米英のロックやポップスに影響を受けても日本語の語感のせいでバックの音も土着感が出てくる（GSや和訳ポップス）のに似ているからなのか、日本ではフレンチ・ポップスが親しまれやすかったような気がします。　それに、味はあるけど必ずしも歌がうまくはない若い女性とプロデュースする裏方の男性（特にセルジュ・ゲンズブール）のような図式もまた、日本に馴染みがあるようです。 Cest Chic: French Girl Singers of the 1960s
