2025 Spring update: Took the pump in over the winter months. Cleaned it with some vinegar today and brushed away all the dead brown algae. Hooked it up to my solar panel and whoala - still works great. Hopefully it’ll be another spring/summer/fall of use. UPDATED: A year later…. Took this out of the shed where it has been stored over the winter. Was very curious whether it would be fine. YES! Worked right away. No issues. Still love this pump. ORIGINAL: I've purchased several small solar stationary pumps in the past but they either have little power or die after a year. It was time for another replacement when I found this pump on Amazon and decided to give it a try. The box it was shipped in wasn't great and had some damage but fortunately the contents were intact and undamaged. I open the box and noticed this is a LARGE pump. It's like a brick! I was dubious about how it would work and tested the solar clips to a 9 volt battery and was floored with the pumping power. I appreciate that it has a flow rate adjustment on the side to raise or lower the water pumping level. Next I hooked it up to a 12W 12V solar panel. It works great! Better than any pump I've used before. The only issue is that it is so good that I need to dial the flow rate to almost the lowest setting for my birdbath otherwise the water is too high and partially splashes out of the birdbath bowl. Again, glad it has the adjustment. Now here is the thing with this pump though... as it is a large pump and the intake filter cutouts is also on top of the pump, the water level needs to be completely above the pump. The pumps I have used in the past have had intakes either at the bottom or side. With this one being also on the top portion and due to it's size, you will need a large volume of water. Make sure your basin is deep! So this might work better for a water feature basin than a birdbath depending on how deep your birdbath basin is. Now we'll wait and see how long it lasts...

I bought this pump 5 years ago to run water for a small fountain/birdbath/water feature, akin to a spring bubbling up from a rock basin. I never expected it to last this long, still going strong and I've even run it dry a few times. Because I don't want it pumping a huge fountain of water, I have it running off 12V Power supply and use a 12V light dimmer to modulate the flow. Usually 9-10V gives me a couple of inches up "bubble up" from the rock basin, just right for a little bird-bath size pool and trickle down a few rocks back to the basin. I just was doing some work to spruce the feature up and was thinking how I never left a review. So far has been 100% worth the money.

Worked great for 4 months. Removed it from my backyard fountain for winter. Put it back in the fountain in May of this year. Seized up in a week. Not many options out there for 12v DC fountain pumps. I had high hopes for this one. WRONG!

EDIT: It died after 3 years of constant use. It began starting intermittently and then stopped completely. I have cleaned water sensor electrodes and checked it with a different power supply. It is dead. The assembly is probably sealed and not serviceable so I will be looking for another pump, It has been an OK value for the price I paid but sealing new wire and turning a heavy fountain over will be a hassle. I have replaced a 110V pump in a fairly large, three bowl fountain with it and it goes strong. I have Philips Hue lights throughout my backyard and this pump saved me some money since I was able to wire it to the same 24V DC line as the lights ( Philips Hue outdoor wiring is "always on" 24VDC). It has been running without any problem since. It makes funny start/stop noises when it eventually runs out of water but that is about it. I have not even cleaned the filter once yet. Just add the eco-friendly enzyme to the water to minimize algae growth.

I am using this pump in a small, decorative fountain. It is easy to use, compact, relatively quiet, and is ideal for this application. So, why only three stars? This is the third pump I have used. The previous two failed after about two years. What happens is the pump starts pausing occasionally for a few seconds, then restarts. The pauses become more frequent, and longer, over a few months until the pump needs to be replaced. When I replaced the latest one I decided to dig into why the old pump failed. The answer seems to be simple. The water level is sensed by two small metallic bumps (electrodes) on the side of the pump. If both electrodes are under water there is conduction between the two electrodes (through the water) and the pump operates. If the water level falls, there is no longer any conduction, and the pump cuts off. The problem is that, over time, corrosion builds up on the face of the electrodes. The corrosion is non-conductive, so the pump things the water level is too low and cuts off. I scraped the corrosion off the electrodes, and the pump worked perfectly again.

So far this has been a great pump. I bought it as a replacement pump for my wishing well water feature. I am using it with a 12 volt solar panel and it runs great with good flow. I like that it has dry-run protection and is brushless.

The auto shutoff feature seems to work great and has already added many months, if not years, to the life of mine. I used it to replace a lesser quality cheap 12V bilge pump, which did have a better flow rate, but that also died several times and had to be replaced in the manner of a year. The other advantage of this pump is that it does not need a separate voltage regulator to regulate the voltage at 12V as my old pump did, instead, it can be hooked directly to the solar panel (provided the solar panel does not exceed 24V). Most mid-sized panels (80-200W) tend to operate in this 12-24V range, which works quite nicely. The only improvement I would like to see is a stronger pressure to produce a greater head height. I think this could be done by tweaking the impeller design, but overall, the pump performs as advertised so I can not mark off points for that.

Ran fine for ~8 months at 12V. Had to enlarge the water reservoir from 8 gallons to 30 gallons due to evaporation rates, placing the pump an additional 3 feet below ground level.12V could no longer lift high enough, so I increased the power supply to 24V, which it was able to do - for a while. Pump died within 3 days. Lesson: don't run this pump at 24 volts. Won't buy another.
