Holy Land Market Large Olive Wood Cross with Crucifix - All from Olive Wood from Bethlehem (14 inches or 35 cm)

I've been looking for an olive wood crucifix with a carved olive wood cruciform. This one fits the bill perfectly. The wood is beautiful and the crucifix looks great on the wall. The literature suggests that it was made by a cooperative of local craftsmen. That's great. My only disappointment is that it osn't "perfect". It's ok but not perfect or vintage quality. Maybe that's unrealistic especially at this reasonable price. I'm not sure if the upright is exactly 90 degrees from the cross piece or that the two pieces fit "perfectly" together. And maybe that' part of its hand made charm. In any event, it looks great on the wall and it pleases me greatly when I look up at it. Yes I would buy it again but I might not give it as a gift to the pope if he were visiting my home. To my daughter? Probably. I hope I don't sound unkind because it is what I wanted and I like it a lot.

THE SURFACE FINISH IS FINE, BUT THE SIDES OF THE CROSS ARE ROUGH AND HAVE VARNISH RUNS, A HURRIED JOB. NO QUALITY CONTROL. THE OLIVE WOOD AND STATUE CARVING ARE NICE. NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FOR THE MONEY.

I never leave negative reviews as I try to find the best in every situation! However, I was not satisfied with my purchase at all! The wooden crucifix that I received looked nothing like the one in the picture. It was intended as a gift, but everyone I showed it to, including the recipient, agreed that the appearance was unacceptable, and it was unworthy for bestowing as a gift. This was very disappointing as it was supposed to be my son's main Birthday present.

Arrived in less than 2 weeks in excellent shape. It was as described. It is beautiful. The face of Christ could have been better carved. Since it is hand carved you really dont know what it will look like exactly.
