It would probably make a difference if you have low power headlights
When I received this item I was so happy that I couldn't wait to try it out. It was agony waiting for the darkness to arrive. I tried it that evening and boy was I disappointed. I understand the premise of the technology in that the sensor is just amplifying any available light. So oncoming cars makes the system useless, any lights such as street lights, traffic lights, etc. make it useless while in view. But also any reflective surface if you have very strong lights. My last car had halogen lights which I quickly swapped out for high output LED lights both the regular, high beam and fog and I would light up the road just fine. When I was forced to drive rentals it was almost unbearable how dark and dim everything was... My current car has factory high output LED lights so I don't need to swap them out. And I have both the fog and regular lights on and they light up the road and what's in front of me fine. When I use this system any reflective service renders the unit useless due to it amplifying my lights right back at me washing out the display. This system seems to be meant for people driving my older car before I replaced the lights. If you have high out LED lights, don't bother. You will not notice a difference, you're basically already getting the most you can. If you have normal lights then I believe it will make a huge difference to you like you had the high output lights. But it might be better to just switch your lights out since I don't see how it can be safe to drive looking at the screen instead of the road.I guess I will have to go back to wishing for a chance to get a FLIR.

Helpful for driving at night
This Lanmodo night vision is definitely awesome! The road conditions are really clear on its screen in full-color image, now it's much safer and comfortable for me when driving at night. Actually, since often drive at night, I once have a dash cam which claims to help safe driving at night with quality night vision, while it is not, the image is in black-and-white and totally unclear at night. It seems this Lanmodo night vision camera can be also used in rainy days, I am looking forward to testing it, will keep updating.

A serviceable first attempt...
So far, I have been enjoying it, and it has proven to be very useful. Installation was quick and painless, and the OBDII power attachment is truly genius. However, there are a few things that could stand to be improved...1. It needs a true wide-angle lens system. The current method of stretching an image to fit the screen leads to obvious distortion of the image, and this makes it difficult to reconcile what is on the screen with what you are actually seeing. (It Can be done, but you'll need to mentally adjust the image in your head.)2. The display needs automatic brightness control. Currently, the screen brightness (which is also the level of light amplification) needs to be turned down to 3 or so at night, so the driver is not dazzled, but needs to be turned up to 12 or 15 at dawn and dusk to be actually useful. An ambient light adapting display would be much safer, as manual adjustment while driving is dangerous. (still, the amplification system does work without washing the image out, even when hit full on by oncoming headlamps)3. Optional dashcam capabilities. For what the unit costs, it is unusual that it does not have the ability to record to an SD card, and act as a dashcam. Even if it was just an option that could be turned on by the user, this would be worth it.Contrary to other reviews, even if you have LED Headlamps, this unit picks out details right at the edge of vision, so you can still get good results out of it.(The attached image is with LED running lights only in a darkened parking lot)EDIT: I now have the backup camera, and installation was as easy and painless as installing the primary unit was, and I'm pleased to report that it has an option to be manually switched on at any point, as well as being triggered by the reverse lights. I'm glad I bought this, it will save me much time parking, and wasting time checking if I'm too close to objects behind me when getting out of awkward parking situations. Thanks for developing this product, and keep up the great work!

Greatly Increases Light That's There, Not Darkness
This camera will serve you well if you are having trouble seeing what is in the beam of your headlights. It greatly increases the brightness and has adjustments for brightness, contrast, and color. It also provides a better view of what's ahead compared to all other car camcorders due to their extreme wide angles which range from 170 degrees to 110 degrees and give you tiny pictures. They are meant to record accidents with nearby objects. This is the only camera I could find that gives the best view of what's down the road. However, my late model car has headlights with a definite cutoff line of what it illuminates, after which there is no light. The camera doesn't show what is in the darkness beyond that and therefore doesn't increase the viewing distance with my headlights, the purpose I bought the camera for. Also, the somewhat wide angle of the camera reduces the size of objects ahead, hampering identification. Bright lights ahead will flood the screen. The ability to reduce screen brightness requires two buttons and would not be safe to do while driving. Future updated models would benefit from having an auto brightness option, a zoom lens, touch screen controls, and an additional wire for shorter connection to the cigarette lighter . A zoom lens would allow more useful wide angle for low speed roads and telephoto for high speed roads. Touch screen response would make necessary changes easier to do while driving. The camera comes with very long wires for running them around the windshield and adding a rear camera. I just wanted to directly connect it to the cigarette lighter below it but have to deal with lots of extra wire length.
