Questions They Can Answer
I am a fan of the History of US series as they read like story books. This set for elementary students helps insure that the questions and projects used at the end of each chapter, is suitable for younger children.

Very helpful
The Joy Hakim books are so read-able that my kids just fly through them. This study guide really helped them to slow down and remember some of the facts a bit better. I really needed this, and found it helpful.

Typos in a lesson book!
I wanted to love this as much as I love the books it goes with, but it's so full of typos I find myself wanting to take my red pen to it. Some of them are so bad that the lesson becomes impossible to understand. It does do a good job reviewing the chapters with emphasis on teaching vocabulary. Most lessons contain a writing prompt involving putting yourself in the place of historical characters or in historical settings, which are neat.

Joy Hakim's The First Americans
The author has done an exceptional job making historical events interesting and accessible for 12-year-olds. The teacher loves using it and the learners are enthusiastic! We have one regret; that it doesn't exist in online version as we are in Africa.

Joy Hakim's book is great - This workbook is TERRIBLE
Joy Hakim's series is fantastic. *This workbook* is terrible. It's so bad, I'm not even going to give it away - it's going to the recycling bin! It's full of typos and unclear exercises. My kids (10 and 11) made a bunch of corrections when they did the exercises. It gets two stars because it introduces several ways of displaying information and basically follows the text. But it's not worth $10! I'm surprised that Oxford University Press published it; I'm used to better quality from them. Steer clear of this "resource."
