Toro Ultra 250 MPH 410 CFM 12 Amp Electric Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher - 1 Each

I bought this specifically for vacuuming up leaves. I was a bit unsure due to several of the poor reviews from people mentioning all sorts of terrible things that have happened to their blower/vac and how the bag isn't durable and all sorts of complaints, but I figured I'd give it a shot. Well, I've had this for the past 6 months and have been thoroughly impressed and am very happy with it. I used this in the fall the vacuum up and disintegrate the leaves that were all over my yard. This thing did it wonderfully. The manufacturer claims 16:1 reduction in volume, and that's probably correct. A big pile of leaves piled about 3 feet tall was reduced to a dense pile of pieces that barely came halfway up one of those paper lawn yard-waste bags. Amazing. I've also used this to suck up bush and leaf trimmings after I trim up the hedges and holly trees around my house, and it does a great job and has no problem chewing through stems and branches up to about 1/8 inch thick. Anything thicker tends to get bound up or bogs down the motor and makes a sickening noise. It's really amazing how much it reduces my use of those lawn bags. And the vacuum is strong enough to suck up clumps of freshly trimmed hedge chunks. No more raking and picking up hedge trimmings by hand! Also, the variable speed means that I can set the vacuum power low enough where it picks up the leaves and whatnot, but the mulch stays on the ground where it needs to be. And so far the bag has worked well and the zipper hasn't broken. The only complaint I have is that it's a bit clumsy to work with. I'm 5'11 and sometimes I feel like I'm a few inches too short to use it comfortably, and sometimes I feel like a few inches too tall to use it comfortably. I know, it sounds idiotic and I'm baffled that such a strange paradox exists with this thing. But the time (and back pain) I save by not having to pick up leaves and stuff and the reduction in the use of lawn bags. Actually there is one more complaint: when the grinder bit does get clogged up and need manual disimpaction, the blower piece is a bit difficult to remove... but it's definitely not a deal breaker. I haven't used the blower function since I already own a battery powered blower, so can't comment on that aspect.

Every year, I get tons of leaves in my yard, and it always falls on me to clean them up/remove them. However, I also have a job that I work at. so, I didn't have time to use a regular leaf-blower to blow them into a pile, and manually collect them. nor did I really want to pay a contractor to do that, when I have the energy. So, I bought this, specifically for the mulching feature, and it works to perfection for what I need. while it's a bit heavy, it's nothing overbearing. it's got 2 handles to hold it, and you can hold it in either manner. the level at which it slices up leaves means you can have tons filtered into a bag. any issues with the mulching feature I've had, have been complete user error. I pulled up a ton of wet leaves, and while it *CAN* suck them up, it doesn't mean you should. it clogged the area where the leaves are shot into the baggy, and I had to get my hands dirty to yank them out. that being said, if you are going to buy this, invest in buying a couple of extra bags. The bag it comes with, is fine and sturdy. however, if you're doing a *lot* of leaf mulching/collecting, as I usually do every spring, I've found it's easier to just swap out a full bag for an empty one and keep going, rather than empty out the bag and start over. thankfully, there are some knockoff versions that perfectly fit the blower, for like 15-20 bucks.

UPDATE: Please disregard my original review, below. I was trying to turn on the blower without properly attaching the tubes. It has a safety feature to prevent it running when not fully configured. The motor works just fine. I WILL say, however, that when used as a vacuum, it is very uncomfortable to use - the bag is always in the way. Maybe that's just the way such devices are but I find it difficult to use and manipulate in areas that aren't fully open, such as patio furniture and such. But it does pick up leaves and debris very well and as advertised. ORIGINAL: Figured I stick with a known brand name, Toro. I used it for a few hours ONE TIME and put it away (mid February). I just tried to use it again, for the 2nd time, and it is totally dead. Doesn't even try to start. So, thanks Toro for a terrible product. Also, I don't know compared to other brands, but it this unit is extremely awkward and hard to handle. I overlooked it because it was performing as advertised that ONE TIME I got to use it. I absolutely do NOT recommend this product to anyone. I doubt I can return it and I JUST threw away the box three days ago, so Toro and Amazon get my free money and I get nothing. Yep, I'm .... angry.

After buying a new house with a beautiful yard and gardens, I started to realize just how much work was in store to maintain said yard and gardens. Then I turned my gaze up at the enormous trees shading the front and back yards. They're amazing trees, but they have an amazing number of leaves. Now that fall is wrapping up here in the Texas, those leaves are making their annual migration south for the winter. I've never seen so many leaves! I mean, I live in a land of junipers and live oaks and other evergreens trees. But whatever I have in my yards is just dumping massive quantities of dead leaves upon my entire property. In no time, my entire lawn was covered, so something had to be done. I can't have leave them there to choke out the grass while the weather is still warm. So I knew I would need a powerful leaf blower. I opted to try my luck with a battery powered mower and string trimmer. But I thought I might need more leaf blowing longevity than a cordless model could offer. And while a backpack style gas blower would be pretty sweet, it would nullify one of the great advantages of electric lawn equipment--no gasoline and associated maintenance. And so, I did some research and settled on this Toro blower/vac. I've used it a half dozen times so far (in addition to mulching leaves into the lawn with the mower), and I haven't even made a dent. But this thing is powerful and reliable and effective. It is lightweight and easy to use. My wife even likes using it (it's like vacuuming, and I like vacuuming). And that was before I showed her that she can actually _vacuum_ the leaves, too! Once you get a hang for how everything is attached and changed for different functions, it's super simple to get up and running, and to switch from blower to vac, quickly. I like the placement and design of handles, allowing for different holding positions. The big dial makes it easy to modulate the speed/power, even while wearing gloves. I find it better to loop the power cord through the handle to prevent it from coming unplugged. But man, can this thing blow. Even when the leaves have piled up one or two _feet_ thick around the shed, this blower moves more than enough air to expose bare ground in no time. I can quickly gather the pesky leaves into convenient piles, and then I take a break and swap out the blower tube for the vacuum tube for some efficient leaf mulching. I remove any sticks bigger than a small twig to prevent snagging in the impeller, but otherwise, I just don the collection bag, assume the position, and let 'er rip. The bag itself is small, so I do need to get a trash barrel with the hose/mesh attachment. That will just give me more time between emptying. But man, this thing will go to town on a pile of leaves, big or small. It really does a great job of chopping things up and reducing the total volume of leaves into manageable quantities for curbside collection or composting. All in all, I'm totally satisfied so far. I'm supremely happy with the purchase, and with my foresight that led to my choosing a corded blower rather than a battery powered model. I can easily run this thing for 30-40 minutes at a time with no concern for battery life, gas refills, or any interruptions at all. It's also lightweight, so I feel no ill effects in my back after a long session, nor do I get the uncomfortable buzzing in my hands after I've finished for the day. Solid blower/vac. Would recommend at this price point.

My review is based solely on performance and not durability as I just received it and have only used it today. I cannot say how long this blower/vac will last, but I can tell you it appears very well-mad and I bought it to replace a much older version that was all plastic. This model has a metal toothed wheel in the housing that is far superior to previous models. And you can tell in performance. I had previously switched to a 2-cycle blower and just used the Toro vac on my old model because I have a long driveway, large yard and lots of trees. But the maintenance and waste factor of the gas blower, frankly, was getting old and the performance was unreliable. So I decided to try out the new Toro blower/vac 250, buy some extension cords and alleviate the need to mix and store gas/oil and deal with fumes. Wish I had done it sooner. The power in this blower is AMAZING---it even blew mushrooms out of the ground around an old tree! You don't even need top speed to clear a driveway or sidewalk in minutes. I also love that you can power down to do flower beds to avoid tearing up mulch yet still take those surface leaves away. Overall, it easily took me half the time to clear my yard and of leaves because there was no need to stop and refuel or restart due to stalls. Love the power setting, the lightweight handle of the equipment and the fact that it takes no time to switch to the vacuum to pick up debris and leaves. I dump the mulched leaves right into my composter and I'm done. Cleanup and storage are a breeze. I also found this made blowing out gutters and rooftops also quicker and less hassle. The power will literally blow your mind. I can honestly say it does a far better job than my gas model did. I had my older version for at least fifteen years but that blower was not anywhere near as powerful as this one, though the vac was okay. This 250 speed, however, is a real game changer. No more cleaning carburetors and mixing gas for me.

This works perfectly. Just what I was looking for. The vacuum and blower work great. It is a little heavy but quality made product usually are.

Like many who have purchsed this blower/mulcher, I am very pleased with how it works. As a blower, it is incredibly powerful. I have another corded blower and this is easily double the power. As a leaf vacuum and mulcher it's a huge time saver. We have two large trees in our front yard and we usually spend 6 man hours raking and packing leaves every fall. I also run the mower at different times during the fall to mulch smaller leaf drops. I did the whole yard by myself in about 3 hours, and collected some 400lbs of leaves. The bag looks like it could get heavy, but by the time it's full, it's rarely more than 10 or 15 lbs. The leaves are chopped up pretty well. It's loud and should be used with ear protection. Converting from blower to vac is a bit clumsy. The pieces fit tightly and are hard to remove. It also does NOT like wet or damp leaves. If you've had rain or snow, you are best off spreading the wet clumps out and let them dry. It will suck them up, but clogs very easily, which is a pain to clear. Have a long screwdriver in your back pocket to help clear out clogs. One of the truly great features of this vac is that it will pull leaves off rocks or from out of ground cover. We have a large edge of ground cover which has always been difficult to get clear of leaves. They get stuck right in the branches, and neither raking or blowing gets them out effectively. You can stick the tube from the Toro down in the shrubs and pull them right up. There is a long adjustable shoulder strap, which I think would accommodate many different heights. The unit is reasonably comfortable to use with a large handle and good places for your hands. Some have commented that the cord is in the wrong place. It's in the right place when used as a blower, but when you vac, you turn it around, so the cord comes out the front. You get used to it. This is one of the best tools I've bought in a long time.

I just unpacked my new Toro 51619 leaf blower and used it immediately. This one replaced an older (looks the same) Toro that pooped out last week and trying to find electrical parts are virtually non-existent and time consuming so I replaced the whole thing. My original lasted about 5 years but I really abused it by accidentally dropping it several times, using it for hours sucking up wet leaves in the rain etc. This one has a larger metal impeller which really whips up the air blast up to 250 MPH using the variable speed control. It is much quieter that my old one and at the lowest speed and dry leaves, you can hardly hear it in the next yard! At full power with lots or wet leaves, there is plenty of oomph to blow them across the street. It comes with two short pieces (about 5-6 inches long) of plastic inserts, one called their Power insert which is for wet leaves and slides down inside the blower tube and reduces the outlet size of the blower and then another insert called their "Concentrator" which again slides into the blower tube, further reducing the end of the blower tube to better clean corners and crevices by concentrating the air blast with good results, (Toro's words). They also provide a "Cord Storage Hook" which also slides on but on the outside of the tube. My personal choice is to take off the tube hook and just coil up the extension cord and not wrap it around the hook and blower motor making it more clumsy to hang it up. By the way, if you have had problems with the cord pulling out of the little power stub attached to the blower, Toro finally put a little cord hook right by the underside at the rear handle whereby before plugging in your extension, take the last 15 inches or so with the female plug, double it over and push it into the opening on the handle, engage the hook, with the loop of cord then plug in the female end into the short stub. The folded over cord will not pull out no matter how hard you jerk it around in your yard. You also get two large tubes used for the leaf vacuum function. You have to remove the bottom bracket holding the blower tube and change to the suction bracket. Also comes with a bag to catch all the 1/2 in clippings left from the leaves and even with a shoulder strap, this bag with a metal zipper on the bottom gets heavy depending on how much you fill it. It is UL listed @ 120V --12 Amps, weight is 8-1/2 lbs and has a 2 yr full coverage warranty from TORO You will have to provide your own 16ga. 3 wire extension cord (50 ft) and if you want to venture out beyond 50 ft to 100 ft, I would recommend a 14ga -3 wire cord The smaller the wire gauge the larger the wire. In other words, 14 gauge wire is larger than 16 gauge wire. The blower is also double insulated. For the price, In my opinion, you can't do any better and by the way, for those who want to create a way to hook up a garbage can to the vacuum, check out Amazon's "WORX" WA4092 Universal kit which is marketed as a "Gutter Cleaning Kit" for blowers and has various pipes and fittings which MAY give those so inclined to build on and create stuff.

Had a toro for years and it finally died. Replaced it with this one. It is even better than the previous leaf blower/vac. Great for leaves, grass clean up, deck sweeping and with the adjustable power switch you can make it work in all situations. Well worth the money.

Received the Unit missing 2 nozzels. Contacted Toro and they immediately mailed me the 2 from the U.S. Excellent Service. They stepped right up to the plate. I would have had to send the entire Unit back to Amazon just for those 2 small parts which would have been a real pain as Amazon will not send out missing parts. I am currently using the Unit to clear new fallen snow off my upper deck and it works fantastic as long as the snow is soft and not wet. Just don't let the snow get to deep. Lots of power and i think as good as any gas powered unit. Excellent product and would recommend.
