After trying many products, this is the best for our ipe decking. Looks great for 12 months, and then good for another 12 months
We have several decks made of Ipe, as well as hand railings. We have experimented with a variety of products, and have found that this is the best stain. For the hand rails, we use Sikkens Marine Varnish, which seems to be the only thing that holds up 2-3 years, but that's too slick to use on decks and we have resigned ourselves to pressure washing and reapplying this product to the decks once a year.At the end of 12 months, the deck still looks decent, just faded.. a quick power wash and another application of this product, applied with a stain sponge, works great and makes them look great for another year.Highly recommended.Hope this helps.

What a finish!
My IPE deck looks brand new. The prep work was the hardest part - the stain goes on quick and easy and wipes right up. Dries well. And now the parts of the deck that are exposed to the harshest sun look as good as the parts near the house that are under cover. They say you don't have to maintain IPE wood and maybe that is true structurally but this made a huge difference in appearance and I'm glad I took the effort.

Think stain, not oil
(Photo shows before and after staining a new dock built about 4 months earlier.)Iโm giving โIpe Oilโ 4 stars because while Iโm generally satisfied (only two days after application) I was surprised to find this to be a fairly heavy stain. I was expecting a mostly clear oil from the name and description. But when you open the can you find a brown stain as dark as the brown deck on the label. Though Iโm not unhappy with the color, I wouldnโt have bought a stain this dark if I had realized it.Apart from the color, application was easy. The hardest part was waiting for good weather. But then I sanded all surfaces with a ROS and 80 grit. Then applied the stain with a staining pad/sponge a small section at a time. Dipping only a small part of the sponge at a time made for a fairly mess-free process. I didnโt find an issue with overlapping unevenness of color this way, even with overlapping. Being careful about an even coating, I also didnโt need to wipe up excess. The whole thing, with sanding and railings, took a day rather than the half day I had expected, but the result is nice lookingโ again despite the surprise of how deep bodied the stain actually is.

Perfect
We had used this product about 9 years ago when our deck was new. The wood is Purvian. We applied this product with ease and as you can see it is perfect. The color will fade as the summer and hotter months roll in. Can't go wrong with this amazing product.

Ipe Deck Project
I power washed a 15 year old ~2000 sq ft ipe wood deck and followed it with application of the ipe oil. The oil and stain is easy to apply addressing pooled oil by brushing it out rather than wiping it with a cloth. The treated surface dries quickly and cures within 48 hours. The stain appears to take up differently depending of the grain of the cut. The number of gallons needed, can only be estimated. contingent on the amount of wood surface coverage. I ordered 4 gallons initially and used a total of 7 but also powerwashed and treated 5 teak chairs The teak furniture appeared to take up the stain uniformly. Not sure why there was such a varied uptake on the deck.

Looks to be a good choice.
We neglected our porch a bit too long. After stripping and cleaning this product looks to be a good choice for protecting and looks.Soaks in and looks good.FYI ..... It smells like old bowling shoes and stale popcorn.

Pricey good stuff
Well, there's nothing like a can of this stuff to freshen up your hardwood deck each year. Lends a serious glow and a nice tint of color - looks like new. It's pricey as heck but I get 2 cans every year anyway. I spent a lot of cash building my new deck and I'm not about to let my glam cumaru and garapa fade to gray. I'm not trying to make my deck look like it's been battered by the coast of Nantucket, I want glistening golden brown.Protips: make sure it has not rained for at least 2 days before you start, preferably two hotter days so your wood is quite dry. You're gonna want to make sure rain isn't forecast for another 2 days afterward too, to allow the product to cure. The easiest way to apply is with a roller brush. Stuff is nothing like paint, so don't freak out. Slather the whole surface until it can't absorb more. Then you find a towel you don't like and massage the oil into the beams. You want no glistening little pools - should be DRY. Kinda like the layer of oil you'd leave on your cast iron skillet before sticking it in the oven to season.
