Great Little Guitar No Problems with Intonation.
We got this for our 5 year old. The quality is very suitable for a child learning to play the instrument. We were a little nervous to commit to this one as there were several reviews that complained about the tuners. The price is right so we decided to take a chance. We are glad we did! This stays in tune wonderfully. Our best guess is that those who had difficulty keeping this in tune didn't realize that new strings take several days to "settle" in to the appropriate pitch. My husband (who is a professional string-bass player) would tune and tinker on the guitar for about 30 minutes every day. Each time he began by re-tuning then play around re-tuning as necessary during the session. By the beginning of the 5th day, the guitar had held itself in almost perfect intonation. Every time you play a stringed instrument you should expect to begin by re-tuning then listen carefully and re-tune as necessary.Bear in mind that the first few tunings will slip considerably as the strings have a lot of "give." This is a normal part of playing any string instrument (even the $300 dollar strings on my husband's $20,000 bass have a breaking in period). Just make sure that any slack in the knot at the bottom of the strings is pushed up past the bridge. This will speed up the breaking in of the strings as there is less slack to take up.If you are on the fence because of other reviews I say take the chance and save a little $$ on this one. We did and couldn't be any happier with it.

Don't Expect a Lot
I am a 20-year musician and my 7 yr old daughter recently (before Christmas) stated she wanted to start learning to play guitar. I purchased this thinking it would be a good starter guitar, not wanting to shell out bunches of money for something that may or may not stick with her. While the build of the guitar seems solid enough, I cannot keep the top two E and B strings in tune. This is a nylon stringed guitar and I understand the process of new strings stretching out, but those 2 strings will not stay tuned. On top of that, I actually have the guitar tuned down 2 full steps b/c I fear the tension would cause harm to the next and top. I did not expect a lot for a guitar at this price point, but it is impossible to teach on a guitar that will not stay tuned.

Great value guitar
I bought this guitar for my kids. I have other guitars like Taylors, and a nylon string Goya that I love, so I needed a guitar for my kids that could stand up to their "abuse". I've bought many guitars from the $100-$200 range to leave at my relatives houses. This guitar, for under $50, is superior to those other beginner guitars. I enjoy the sound and playability. I've had it for over a year now, it's been dropped, thrown, detuned and tuned, and stays out on a stand exposed to humidity and temperature changes - and it sounds better than ever. I put good quality strings on it when I bought it, still has the original strings. Sometimes I go for this guitar over my Goya - it's fun to play the smaller size. It plays up the whole neck, many cheaper guitars the neck bows or the frets swell and you lose playability at the octave, but not this little guitar. It's a good size for my kids, I put a strap on it from a guitar hero controller, and they love to strap it on and "play" their favorite songs. And it protects my more valuable guitars. I would recommend this guitar for your kids, for a travel guitar, a gift, or a guitar to leave at your in-laws for when you visit them.

A lesson learned
Bought this for my 7 year old daughter based on the good reviews. Well, I shouldn't have. Lesson learned, money wasted. The guitar itself is not very good quality, the tone is terrible, loses tune with the slightest movement -which is not a good feature for a novice learner. I thought the nylon strings would be better for tiny tender fingers, but they are so dull and muted. The thing sounds like a ukulele with a sinus infection. If you have a young one sincerely wanting to pursue music - look on ebay or craigslist for a real guitar, even if used. A little more money would have gone a long way towards a better music learning experience. I will say as a positive though, the sizing was nice for my daughters small frame. Her fingers could reach the different frets and the guitar waist sat well on her legs. But, it didn't make much difference with the rest of it being shoddy.

Nice-appearing, decent sounding, good quality youth guitar.
This really has a nice appearance for the price, it doesn't look cheap, and is perfectly sized for my 8-year-old's hands. It's proportionally smaller than a typical acoustic guitar. The shorter/narrower neck means the frets and strings are closer together for small fingers to reach cords, and of course the body is smaller as well making it easy to hold and play for the small ones. You are getting 3 totally non-metallic strings of 6, and the other 3 are combo nylon/metallic. There are pros and cons to plastic strings the upside is that the strings are a lot easier on the fingertips, but the downside is that they don't sound as good as metallic, nor do they seem to hold true tune as long. All the bits and pieces, tuning pegs and so forth appear to be decently built. Overall it's a great little acoustic guitar and I think the proof of concept here is that both of my kids go straight to it for play/practice rather than grab one of our more expensive acoustics.
