high-quality permanent hair color
Naturtint 1N Ebony Black Permanent Hair Color has been one of the better at-home hair color products I’ve used. The color came out rich, deep, and very natural-looking without the harsh chemical smell that many permanent dyes have. I really appreciate that the formula is gentler compared to traditional hair dyes. My hair felt softer and healthier after coloring instead of dry or damaged. The application process was straightforward, and the included conditioner helped leave my hair smooth and shiny. The coverage was excellent, especially on grays, and the color looked even from root to tip. I also noticed the color stayed vibrant for weeks without fading too quickly. Another big plus is that Naturtint uses more plant-based ingredients and avoids many of the harsher chemicals found in other brands, which makes it a great option for people with sensitive scalps. Overall, this is a high-quality permanent hair color that delivers beautiful, long-lasting results while being gentler on the hair. I would definitely purchase it again.

A hair color that feels safe and looks gorgeous.
TL;DR: Rich dark color, tons of shine, gentle smell, and the only formula I’ve found that checks all the “safe ingredients” boxes while still looking amazing. Just be ready for a long first rinse. This is the only hair dye I’ve used that strangers have stopped me over, asking what shade it is. The color is very dark, but it doesn’t cross into that harsh, fake-looking territory. It settles in as a really smooth blue-black that looks intentional and pretty, not costume-ish. What I appreciate most is that I can use it without dealing with the cloud of chemical fumes you normally get with boxed dye. The smell is mild enough that I don’t get a headache or that burning feeling on my scalp, which is a first for me. It leaves my hair soft and shiny afterward instead of that stripped, squeaky feeling some dyes cause. The staying power is strong too. Even when my roots start coming in, the rest of the color holds onto its depth instead of washing out to a dull tone. If you want something that lasts without damaging your hair, this one really does it. But I will say the rinse-out is no joke. The very first wash after processing takes a while. I’m talking a solid twenty-plus minutes of rinsing until the water finally stops running dark. Once that part is over, the upkeep is easy, but the initial rinse just takes patience so you don’t end up with any leftover dye on your skin or towels. I’ve done a lot of digging into safer coloring options, and most products either have ingredients I won’t touch or just don’t work well. This is the only brand I’ve found that checks the boxes for safety while still giving results I can feel good about wearing out. It hits that sweet spot between gentle and effective, and that’s why I keep coming back to it. Tip: Put a little coconut oil or vaseline around your hairline before applying so cleanup is quick once you’re done. Hope this helps! =)

Absolutely fantastic!!!! beautiful color
Wow! love my results! I had been using another brand for so long and was nervous to switch but so glad I finally tried it! I liked that there's no Amonia in Naturtint and much better ingredients. My natural color is light to medium brown and I had been using color 7N Medium Blond from another manufacturer. Each time I used it though, my scalp burned and got red and the smell had been horrible. I also have a very dry scalp so I knew it was time to switch. I read that it's a good idea to go one number higher with Naturtint which would be similar to the one I previously used 7N. I chose 8N Wheat Germ Blond Naturtint. The color is fabulous!! It came out the same as the medium blond I used to use!! there's hardly any smell and for the first time in 15 years, no burning whatsoever on my scalp!! I did my roots first which took about 17 minutes, then I used the rest of the bottle it came with on the rest of my hair and left it on for 30 minutes. There's even some shiny parts to the color like highlights. The color you see on the box is very accurate. It covered my grays great too. I would HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Good Product with minor issues
I want to preface this review with the fact that I'm a natural red-head, and many products -- especially dyes and colourants -- are not made with red-heads in mind. I wanted to mix things up and try out this hair dye because it has been recommended to me by another red-head that uses it for her greying roots. It looks beautiful on her, but she does have a slightly different shade of natural red hair, which I didn't think about before just slapping it on, so I'm not one to blame a product for my own mistakes. I admit that the colour of it while processing was scary dark and I thought I made a huge mistake. Once it was all washed out and mostly dried, it's a beautiful, warm, and chestnut-y colour. I purchased the terracotta blonde colour because I thought it would work close to my natural colour, which I have pictured in the first of the three pictures I've included in this review. My natural hair is definitely closer to the brighter orange end than to the colder, deeper red end. From the picture on the box, I thought it'd be lighter, but that's not what made me give it a 4/5 stars. Actually, I have carpal tunnel and found that if I was using the bottle of dye for longer than 3 minutes, it turned to a really thick gel that didn't want to come out of the bottle, and I had to squeeze the bottle really hard. I know the point of this hair dye is that it's gel, but a lot of it just wouldn't come out of the bottle without me having to take off the application tip and dump as much as possible into a gloved hand by shaking it quickly and aggressively. That's really my biggest complaint, that it just becomes so difficult to come out of the applicator. Maybe I'm alone on this issue because I already have wrist and joint issues, and that's okay. I just wanted to throw that out there in case anyone else has hand and grip difficulties. Other than that, I think I could get used to this colour. It had a nice smelling hair mask included with a decent amount for long, thick hair. I had to get two boxes because I have a lot of hair. I have sensitive skin, and it didn't irritate me at all. The dye itself didn't smell bad or chemically. My hair was left soft, and I think the colouration looks very natural. I dyed my eyebrows as well, and it looks like it could just be my natural hair colour. It looks warm and inviting, and it's just a shade or two darker than my natural hair. All around, a pleasant process. I think I'd also recommend this brand to others. I've tried other hair dye and colour deposits before in the past, and besides overtone, this felt like the most gentle and nourishing hair colorant for my hair. Lastly, I found that it washed out after processing much easier than other dyes that take well over 45 minutes just to run clear with two boxes of dye on my hair. Definitely worth a try if you're looking for a less irritating, ammonia-free box dye.

Safe, natural, gorgeous color!
I loved the natural ingredients and that it was a company owned by women. I have used L'Oreal and then went to the eSalon products for the last two years. Still wasn't happy with the lack of grey coverage, the chemicals (and smell) and just not the right color. I ordered the 7N Hazelnut blonde, to cover my Grey's at the roots but to match my natural sunstreaked light blonde/brown. Followed the directions to the letter. Never, ever, have I been so happy with my haircolor! The match is perfect, my hair is silky, shiny, no chemical smell! Just a fresh, light conditioning fragrance. But the color and condition! And the unbeatable price! Whatever is in the Quinoa Aftercolor Conditioner is amazing, the shine is amazing. I am incredibly happy, impressed, and a convert. This is a first class product, a must try. You won't regret it. Oh, and, Ive had breast cancer full treatment twice in my life already....that I have hair at all is a miracle, so I wouldn't use just anything to color it, chemicals have always worried me. (More) hair loss worry me. No more. I am safer using this product. Thank you!

Vibrant color, no horrible smell
I've never done box hair dye; I've always paid someone a pretty penny at a salon to color my hair. After my expensive hand-painted highlights grew out and my brown roots were becoming noticeable, I decided that paying $500+ for a touch-up wasn't the best use of my money, and impulsively decided to dye my hair the darkest black I could find. I hate the smell of ammonia, so I decided to give this brand a try. I'm very happy with the results, and how dark black my hair came out. It's not brownish or grayish at all; it's a solid unambiguous black. I was hesitant to go so dark and thought I maybe should have tried brown-black or regular black before going all the way to blue-black, but I'm glad I trusted my impulse and went with the blue-black, because my hair looks fantastic. I've gotten so many compliments and it looks great with the colors of clothing and makeup I favor. Some of my friends that also have their hair very dark are amazed at how dark my hair turned out on the first application. The dye itself is just as quality as anything I've paid someone to use on me; I have no complaints. The smell isn't bad at all, and I had no itchiness for the 30-40 minutes I kept it on to process. It washes out pretty clear on the first wash, and I haven't had any stained towels or pillowcases like I did when I dyed my hair purple-red all the time. My hair is 2b curl type, coarse, and naturally very dry. I haven't detected any drying or additional hair loss from dye, so it's pretty gentle. It definitely stained my hairline, though, but that's to be expected. My hair is down to my lower back, so I had to use two whole boxes for the first application. Make sure you account for that when you dye! The dye mixed up pretty thick, so it was super easy to apply with a bowl and brush. Even with my hair length and thickness, it took less than an hour. Overall, 5/5 stars. I'll be doing my touchups with this; no need to look for a different brand.

Dark Ash Blonde - A healthier alternative
Update II: I did some color mixing and came up with a nice medium ash brown. I checked out the Nutratint website with instructions on creating your own shade. So I poured out 10ml of both the tint and the white cream developer from the Dark Ash 6A bottles and added it to the Light Ash Blonde 8A bottle. The result was a nice medium ash brown. The color is very pretty and looks like a salon custom color. The conditioner that comes with the color is light and makes my hair feel healthier. Great product. *************** Update I: I started with the Dark Ash 6A, which was too dark (my bad...it matched the color on the box exactly). However, I wanted to see how long the color would stay in my hair. I must say that I am really impressed. The color did lighten but did not become brassy or faded. In fact, my roots grew out so far that I finally had to color again. Truly the best color I've used....including L'Oreal. My only suggestion is to add more Ash colors to the shade offerings. The 6A is too dark, and the 8A too light. May have to mix my own shade. *************** I chose the Dark Ash Blonde 6A color thinking that I would get a lighter brown outcome without the reds and golds that you get with other hair color. The darkness of the color matched the box but it still has more red and gold than I would like. It went on a little darker than I'd like, but it will lighten up. I just colored my hair, so will update about longevity of the color. Pros: No toxic smell. This product has more of an "herbal" scent. Healthier choice. Comes with a conditioner. No strong after-scent left in hair. The conditioner is light and leaves hair soft. Cons: Gloves do not fit well and are flimsy (leaving a few finger nails stained) This product has a thick, more "jelly" consistency, so it is difficult to squeeze it out of the small hole in the applicator. I finally just took the cap off, squeezed a blob into my hands and "shampooed" it into my hair. After using the same hair color brand for years, I am impressed with this product and look forward to trying other colors.

Hasn’t been the same for years, but works
For color and effectiveness, I give it a 5, the formula/experience over more recent years is leading me to change. I have used multiple shades over 15+ years, all have taken great to my already dark hair, the reddish tones add a great “glimmer”. Now that the greying has started, I’ve been sticking with the 1N just to help the transition until they grow in enough to embrace. It is a much cleaner option and for ages I’ve chosen it over drug store options, other natural dyes and even the professional brands. In the earlier years, I had zero issue with it and it felt like it was actually benefiting my hair. Eventually, I started having more trouble rinsing the formula out. Two things I thought may be contributing, I had moved and the water wasn’t as soft, they had switched from the little packet of shampoo and treatment/conditioner, to a tube of treatment. I stopped using the tube, tried different shampoos, took a long break from dying through pandemic, even tried after moving back to softer water. There is a waxy film that has not improved, packing has changed a couple of times, so I keep hoping it’s a formula change back to the original, but no luck. My scalp would start to peel, not just dry flakes, but peeling in the areas that stayed the most waxy after multiple washes. It wasn’t painful, but seemed as thought the residue was causing it since it wouldn’t full wash out, I assumed user error. I will wash repeatedly, and now even after trying things over several days (clarifying shampoos, Castile soap, baking soda, vinegar, etc) I’m still left with residue. Six months ago, I had the same issues as usual, but I had some skin issues in the days following, no rash, but more like cystic acne around the hairline, scalp peeling, stuff I still wanted to be a coincidence, I just tried a new shade 3 days ago (haven’t used any since June) and am having the similar issues. I was extra careful to only use it on spots I wanted covered, not on scalp or get any on skin. I’ve been keeping my hair up and off my skin, but some contact is inevitable and I’ll get a waxy film around the hairline, on my neck, etc. Those areas then break out and/or get sensitive. We all have different bodies, our hair, skin, etc react to things differently. So I’m not saying it’s harmful, but I may need to come to terms that it’s not for me anymore. It’s been many years and perhaps I’m growing more sensitive. I still think it’s an effective and cleaner dye, but there was a clear change years back and I don’t know that any sensitivity would be as bad had it not changed and started leaving a residue. Of course even clean dyes need to be washed out, I just can’t get it to.

Great hair dye
Great hair dye, have been using only this for years now, also during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It does not smell at all and has most infrefients natural. Never had any problrms. The only disadvantage is that it only lasts around 1 month and then i have to reapply it

Beautiful Chocolate Colour
Best hair colour I’ve ever used, bar none! I started to go grey at 23 so at 50 I needed to avoid chemicals for health reasons but also I could not be bothered with dying it anymore, so I cut my long hair and started growing it out...only to find, two years later, that my grey is very uneven, starting from still brown at the top, then grey to white at the sides...kinda like Paulie from The Sopranos. Nice! The reason I’m telling you this is to give you an impression of what a challenge I was to this hair colour; in addition to the sporadic greys and whites, I’ve still got about an inch of what looks pretty black still, at the ends. I paint a gorgeous picture...one upside to lockdown. My problem has always been that my hair super-absorbs colour; my hairdresser would use light brown and it would look black. So, never having had the colour I wanted (always wanted a dark chocolate colour) and with four different colours on my poor old noggin, I approached this colour with very little hope....only to find my prayers answered! I now have chocolate brown hair, thanks to this fabulous product and the coverage has been excellent, with the very black ends only slightly noticeable, blending in well but of course they’ll be chopped off ASAP. The coverage on my pure white wings is phenomenal so I’ve just bought my next box. My confidence (and to be honest appearance!) is much improved and I’m absolutely delighted. I highly recommend this colour to you. I would just say that, based on the name of my colour, to probably choose a shade lighter than the colour you hope to achieve; I bought this expecting it to be quite dark and it is, although it has the chocolate tones rather than looking black, which is exactly what I want but if you’re looking for a lighter brown, based on this, I’d advise heading into the blonde colours. If you have lots of mid grey to white and want a dark chocolate colour then I’d say look no further and hope your experience is as positive as mine.🤞💞
