Vicks Humidity Monitor with Easy-to-Read Display, White

Okay, Here it is, i know sometimes you get dodgy merchandise - that happens once in a while. But if you get the majority of review pretty positive and a few that bad - its a good bet to say that its generally a good product. Thankfully for me I've had a good experience. Its not going to solve all your problems but its handy, small, is accurate - tells the moisture level and also the temp very accurate - I know as i compare it with my thermostat. It takes a few minutes to adjust if you move it but that is just natural. it worked straight out of the box, and I'm guessing will probably not have to replace the batter for a good few years easy. You know straight of the bat when you get a good product and I'm guessing this thing will last for many years to come. Vicks is a good brand. That's why I went with them, since i was a child I use to use their vicks rub when I got a cold or sore muscle or to relieve sinus and cold congestion. So it was just a natural choice and I"m glad i went with it. its a good product, and if you like something that works, is easy and accurate that will last a long time, you will like this one too.

This VICKS HEALTHCHECK HUMIDITY AND TEMPERATURE MONITOR is a simple device that only does two things--display temperature (F. or C.) and relative humidity--but it does both really well. The 3-1/2" x 3" monitor has a built-in stand, and a large, clear readout. Beneath the display screen is a printed "key" that explains the ranges of relative humidity: 0% to 30% is too dry (dry eyes, nose & throat); 30% to 50% is the comfort zone (healthy breathing); and 50% to 85% is too humid for everyday (best for coughs & colds). Out of the box, the monitor took a few hours to display the correct room temperature, but it now agrees with the changing readings displayed by a couple of other devices in the same room. More importantly, the relative humidity display is totally consistent with the automatic humidity settings on my new whole-room humidifier. I purchased this monitor because I didn't completely trust the humidifier's automatic sensor, which is probably too close to a furnace vent. Now this monitor tells me when the humidifier should be turned on or off.

I just wish it had a backlight so I can view from a distance the readings. Especially at night

I’ve been using these humidity monitors for years to keep track of temperature and humidity in various rooms around my house. In my opinion, they are essential to use while running a humidifier to make sure that the humidity isn’t too low and not being effective or too high and risk warping wood floors or potentially causing a mold problem. My HVAC technician tested them against his professional sensors and said that they were very accurate. I keep buying more of them and now have six in various rooms around my house.

I purchased this because it was suggested by the Vicks humidifier I recently purchased for my bedroom. While reading the instructions of the humidifier, it said to keep the humidity of the room between 40-60%, so I needed humidity monitor. I set this monitor near my bed and it appears to be accurate. The closer I set this monitor to the humidifier, the higher % it reads and further away, the lower % it reads. The monitor uses a AAA battery but the monitor comes with a AAA already installed and requires the a plastic tab to be removed for it to work. The battery is easy to replace via a plastic door at the bottom. The temperature can be changed from Fahrenheit to Celsius by a small rubber push button on the back of the monitor. The monitor is made to stand up by itself on a flat surface and does not have a wall mount option. The overall quality build of this item feels cheap so I would not recommend dropping it. Overall, the item works well and is simple and easy to use.

We bought 4 of these to monitor a long term problem with mold around our floor registers that required duct cleaning, replacement, repair and resizing. Their readouts are not identical, when together, but cover a span of about 5 percent, which is ok with us. We have a 2900 sq ft rancher, 3BR, 4BR, a heat pump and three propane heat sources as backup for power losses. We've had the monitors for 2 months as we transition through spring. We dispersed these widely and moved them about, finding humidity varies about 10% from highest to lowest areas. Highest was in a bedroom most distant from a bathroom and kitchen, with two floor registers! Most of the time the humidity was close to 60% and was best kept about 55% or lower with HVAC set for 1 Cycle Per Hour (default on our Honeywell thermostadt was 3 CPH). The monitors have been a great buy and are helping us deal with humidity issues. We hope we'll now be able to stop mold growth during the humid summer and monitor moisture in the house on a regular basis. Anyone with mold issues should have several of these.

I bought 3 of these meters and have been using them in my house for a month. I found that they are very slow to update the humidity. It seems to update the humidity maybe once a minute at most and it will only update by typically a percentage. So if you take this meter from inside to outside, it can take 30 mins to an hour to get the right humidity measurement, but it eventually gets there. It stays withing 1-2% of my expensive Hygrometer if they sit in the room next to each for long enough for this unit to reach the correct point. After that they match as long as they are near each other. The temperature measurement is also always within 1-2 degrees of accurate and is faster to update than the humidity. So for a mobile unit that you are going to move around, it isn't very good at all. For something that will sit on a desk, night stand, or low wall and stay there, it works fine and is inexpensive at around $11.
