Outputs air that feels COLD! Also has a temperature control built in.
I'm a hot sleeper, and I've tried many things to help cool me down so I can sleep. This fan has turned out to be the BEST thing I've used by far. I discovered this fan at a doctor's office and then again at a sleep center. After experiencing it at both locations, I decided to buy one for myself. I've had my fan for almost a year and could not imagine being without it now. The fan performs all the normal features you'd expect of an oscillating room fan as already mentioned by many others so I'm not going to review those features. Instead, I'm going review one feature that is often overlooked: the temperature control. The temperature control is the feature that puts this fan above all others. It literally behaves like a thermostat! After turning the fan on, setting the temperature control is very easy. You just press the mode button one time and use the up/down arrow buttons to set a specific temperature (2 degree increments). That's all there is to it. Once set, the fan will run until the room has cooled down to the set temperature, and then it will shut off automatically. When the room temperature raises above the set temperature, the fan will turn itself back on automatically. It does this just like how a thermostat controls an air conditioner! The temperature control offers incredible flexibility. I don't have to babysit the fan so I don't have to run back and forth to turn it on and off as the temperature fluctuates from daytime to nighttime. I can cool down while using the fan just in my bedroom while leaving the rest of the house as normal so I don't freeze out my children. I can also cool down in my bedroom only at night for sleeping while leaving the room normal during the day. Plus, because the air coming out of the fan feels colder than the room temperature, the feeling of being cooled is instantaneous. It does this better than any other fan I've used! In fact, sometimes the air feels so cold that I have to turn it off to not freeze my own self too much. So not only does this fan offer all the benefits of an oscillating tower fan, but the temperature mode automatically controls the fan so it runs when the temperature is too high and stops when it's cooled back down again. But the best part is that the air truly feels colder than I have experienced with other fans (even ones with a more powerful air outflow), making this particular fan the best one I have ever used. I cannot explain why the air feels colder on this fan than other fans. I simply know that it does. --------- UPDATE: I ran across my old review and thought I would update it. I bought two of these fans on June 29, 2011. It is now March 9, 2013 and both fans are still working perfectly! I haven't even had to replace the batteries on the remote controls yet even though I use one quite a bit (I never expected to use the flashlight feature so much, but I use it very often). I am still very pleased with my fans. I use one every single day, almost all day long; although, it can be too cold at times so I turn it off if I get chilled. I am contemplating buying a couple more fans just to keep on hand since I know these fans won't last forever, and I can't imagine doing without one now. I've bought many different fans over the years and nothing has come close to cooling me down as well as this particular model. This was definitely one of the best buys I've made! --------- UPDATE 2: It is now April of 2014, and both of my fans are still working perfectly even after 3 years of daily use! I cannot be more pleased with the performance of these fans! --------- UPDATE 3: It is now January of 2015, making my fans 3.5 years old and I still love them. Both fans continue to work flawlessly even though I turn one on and off frequently every day and even once had a bookcase fall over and knock over the fan so hard that it came apart. I just snapped the pieces back together and it was up and running as if nothing had happened. This model continues to remain the best fan ever! I also want to note that I edited my review slightly to be careful to not imply that this is an actual air conditioner. My wording has appeared to upset some people so I tried to explain myself more clearly with the edits (e.g., clarifying that the temperature control does the same basic thing as an air conditioner *thermostat* instead of saying it behaves like an air conditioner). Hopefully, this will help convey my meaning more clearly. But make no mistake about it, the air that comes out of this particular fan model does in fact feel COLD, far more any fan I've ever tried. I don't know how it does it. I understand that it is not an actual air conditioner. But considering that the whole reason I bought the fan was to cool me off and the air from this fan actually FEELS like cold air coming from an air conditioner, I'd say it's doing all I hoped for and more. We can mince words on what to call it, but I know what the air feels like no matter what name is used. I actually get cold from it. No other fan has ever done that before. So while I want to make it perfectly clear that this is a fan, not an air conditioner, there is no mistaking that this one remains the best fan I have ever used. The air coming out FEELS COLD, unlike any other fan I've used. That may be why my doctor and the sleep center selected this exact fan model for their professional businesses. I'm very glad I got one (make that two) for myself. UPDATE 5! It is now August 2017, and I still love my fans! I bought a third fan on June 2015. I honesty cannot tell which fan I bought first, second, or third. They all look just as good as new and all work perfectly. I'm still very, very pleased with these fans. I think the best way I can sum up how happy I've been with this fan is this: Since I bought my first one in June 2011, I have not bought any other fan ever since. I only bought two more of these same fans. I bought several fans before, but none ever since. These fans do all I want and they do it as well as I hope for. I continue to be thoroughly pleased with this fan for over 6 years and counting.

Great fan, not too loud, pretty neat functions!
I bought this fan because I am staying for the summer in a small apartment in NYC. Being from Alabama, I am used to very hot summers but I am not used to walking so much or standing in the warm subway stations. Most days by the time I get back to my apartment, I am pretty hot from walking around so much (even when the heat isn't that bad). Unfortunately for me, my roommate likes to be warm at night so she doesn't keep it very cool in our place...and seeing as this is her apartment and I am only renting out her spare bedroom temporarily, I don't feel right taking over the thermostat. Luckily - this fan exists! I bought it because it spiked up to 80+ degrees both outside and in our apartment last weekend. There was no way I was going to make it through summer like that. Opening the window doesn't help when it's that hot. This fan blows out more than enough air on the low setting to cool down this room. For a bigger room (like a living room) I'm sure the medium or high levels would cool it down considerably. The two things I love about this fan are the "breeze" mode and the temperature control. You can set it (much like a thermostat) to a particular temperature, and if your room gets above that temperature it will automatically kick on. This is pretty good for saving energy. You can also set a timer to have it automatically turn off after a certain amount of time, which is good if you like to fall asleep with air blowing on you but get cold in the middle of the night. The breeze function is really not that practical, but it is cool (no pun intended). You can set it on breeze and the fan will alternate between different levels of blowing to simulate a breeze blowing through the room. I love the outdoors, so I enjoy this function if it's too hot to actually open a window. Like I said, not really that practical for your typical fan use, but I like it anyways. Finally I also have to give it a thumbs up for the noise level, air filter, and remote controls. I like a little white noise to sleep to but some fans are really loud. This one is perfect to me. It's just a little bit of background noise but it isn't obnoxious. Also it comes with an ionization mode which isn't that important to me, but I do think it's a nice added bonus. The remote control makes it pretty convenient to use in the middle of the night, because you don't have to get out of bed to turn it on or off; plus you can turn the speeds up and down, adjust the temperature, oscillation feature, and breeze all from the remote. Overall I'd give this thing an A+ rating. Love it!

not perfect but excellent fan with minor quarks
I bought my first one of these 2 years ago for my living room. Then I recommended it to my (ex) girlfriend and she bought one. I now have another one in my bedroom as my old oscillating fan was starting to fall apart (the plastic legs were cracking). I sleep super hot, and this thing almost feels too cold. Somehow the air blowing out almost feels chilled, like an A/C unit. I especially love the timer feature. I set it before I go to bed, and I know it will turn off the next morning after I leave for work. The remote is an interesting add-on, but since you cannot see the control panel across the room, it is a bit limited in usability. The high fan setting is definitely loud; probably too loud to watch TV or have a conversation over. Medium is possibly tolerable if you are just watching TV; having a conversation might still be difficult. However, I never use the high or medium settings. The low setting has always been sufficient and not overbearing. In the 2 years I've had mine, it has tipped over 0 times. I've even bumped it a couple times with the vacuum. I don't know why others think this thing is so unstable. Will it tip over if you hit it with a football or small child - probably, but my mother does the same thing and I don't bitch and moan about her... I need to check the filter/ionizer to see how dirty it has gotten in that time. Assembly is not that difficult if you can read and have any kind of hand-eye coordination. Took me less than 10 minutes. The hardest part was feeding the power cord through the little plastic tunnel/hooks that keep it out of the way. The biggest reason it does not get 5 stars is the controls. They are not that hard to figure out, but as others have stated, if you cycle through the power settings too far, you reset all the other settings. I think the biggest fix would be for Honeywell to have a separate power on/off switch that allows you to keep all your other preferences intact; or maybe some kind of memory setting for what you use all the time. Overall very satisfied.

Good fan
I gave 5 stars, but I still do offer some constructive criticism. Trust me, I did tons of research on various oscillating tower fans before buying this one. That's just how I shop, and I'm rarely disappointed, like this time. Functionality - No complaints Aesthetics - No complaints Noise level - Not the quietest fan I've had, but still is not loud enough for me to need to turn my TV volume up to hear over it (I have the two right next to each other btw), and it doesn't keep my up, or wake me up at night. Tall enough to still give great air flow while I'm laying in bed, even on the lowest speed. I rarely use the remote control, so there isn't much for me to comment on in that department. Sometimes I forget I even have the remote so I end up getting up anyways if I need to adjust something. The times I have used the remote, it worked like a remote. This fan has a lot of features, most of which I don't use, so it may take you a couple clicks through to memorize it. Some buttons are dual personality and have to be pressed multiple times to get to the adjustment you want. Would be nice if there was an independent power button instead of being a part of the fan speed button, however, it is not a deal breaker as I honestly never think about it. Just doing a little analyzing as I write this review. My only complaint is that they put these big white stickers with instructions and warnings on the fan that completely clash with the black plastic, and when you try to take them off, they leave a thick layer of gunk. Nothing a little Goo Gone can't fix, but still had me thinking, "reallyyyyy?" Anyways, bottom line guys, it's an sturdy oscillating tower fan, and it does exactly what you need/want, plus a little bit more probably. It was shipped in the fan's box, with no other packaging inside an additional box, which really would have upset me if there was something wrong with this thing out of the box. Assembled with no problem though, so I can't complain. For under $50, this is a catch and a half. You wont be disappointed unless you're a snob.

Almost a Pretty Good Fan
....if you were like us and spent hours and hours looking for a fan with great airflow....it does not exist. But if you want a fair, just average tower fan that circulates a reasonable amount of air ....this might be the one. We have had several of these over the years and that is problem one with these fans...they might not last long.. ...some...not all....start to experience weakened airflow after 3 years..and....some of the control buttons don't work after a bit. So...if you forget about the ionizer because it hasnโt been proven effective....all you really want is a tower fan that blows cool air ....reasonably quietly....and looks decent. This fan does this...just do not get too optimistic and expect a long fan life........you might get it....just don't expect it. On background...we also tried the Lasko 42โ Wind Curve 2554....and found we did not like it as much....it was maybe a little quieter ....the wood grain front was a nice touch ...same amount of air flow...maybe a bit less....but ...no air filter. We were impressed with the air filter on the Honeywell...especially seeing what it trapped. Honeywell also had a temperature control on it that told you the temp in the room and supposedly shut off the fan when it reached the temp set. That will never happen on a warm or hot day. Neither fan will cool the air. So...if you lower your expectations a bit and you just want a simple tower fan that blows air into your room ...has an extra bonus of an air filter....and you might be fine with an approximate 3 year life span......Honeywell might be a fair choice.

Good fan, worth buying, some weird settings though
This has been a very nice addition. The settings are all good, it's easy to use, and the remote (that i never actually use) has a nice dock on the top of the fan. All in all not the best fan, but it does it's job well and cools my son and I off, so as long as it does it's job I am content. For the money, it's definitely a 5 star. I think the only problem is that ionizer and oscillate are on the same button, so you have to press the button a bunch of times to cycle through a few settings if all you are looking for is one or the other. It's set up like this- 1 press: Oscillate 2 presses: Oscillate + Ionize 3 presses: Ionize 4 presses: Off (ionize is indicated by green light) So for instance, i typically only care about oscillation. I turn it on, then a few minutes later i want it only pointed at me. So i wait for it to turn back my direction and hit the button. Now it's set to oscillate and ionize, and by the time I hit the button again it has rotated to a different direction now. Now i gotta do the cycle over again, but this time hit the button twice in anticipation. It's weird and inconvenient, but it's not a major problem worth docking a star for. I do think others should be aware of this before buying though. Maybe it's a big problem for people even more lazy than I (cough, unlikely, cough) ^_^

Poor quality construction; fragility makes it vulnerable
I purchased this specific fan on May 17, 2014. I assembled it the first day I received it. On its first run, it turns the component that makes the fan oscillate was broken. You can see the fan slightly move but then a "cracking" sound comes out and it gets stuck in its track. I tried multiple times to re-assemble the unit, but the problem was still present. I called Honeywell (or Kaz, as it is listed in the manual - it actually specifies to contact Kaz directly and not the retailer where you purchased it from). The customer service rep told me I had to pay for return shipping. And in addition, they told me they no longer manufacture this product (even though it appears Amazon.com still sells these units as of August 2014), so they could ship me Model HY-280 as a replacement. I began to get furious with customer service, because it was clearly not my fault the product failed since day one. After much deliberation, they agreed to cover the return shipping. I received my return shipping label in the mail approximately a week later. I immediately shipped it out and they received it a few days later. Another week goes by and my replacement comes in - the HY-280 (aka "Honeywell QuietSet Whole Room Tower Fan"). Looking forward to "cool down" through the summer heat, I assembled the replacement fan. It worked well and it OSCILLATES properly! Two days go by, and the fan accidentally get tips on the side onto the carpet floor. I picked it back up and it no longer worked. No fan cooling, no air comes out of it period. At this point I was done with Honeywell/Kaz and tower fans. I counted the money I paid for the original tower fan as a loss and moved on to traditional circular fans. I think my biggest mistake was contacting Honeywell/Kaz for any replacement services. I should have contacted Amazon and they would replaced it with the SAME fan for me. I believe if the events went in that direction, I probably would still have a working tower fan. I learned my lesson for dealing with Honeywell directly and experienced TWO poor quality products from them. I'm quite surprised because I have their circular whole room fans (Model HT-908) and they work great. Overall, I am now skeptical to purchase any product from Honeywell's line of tower fans.

Really wonderful fan... but lame, useless remote
Have used it daily since it arrived 2 weeks ago. LOVE the tower fan -- but the remote control, not so much (more on that later). It was quick and easy to put together.. note: you will need a flat head screwdriver. It's pretty powerful.. have been using in open floorplan (kitchen, dining room, living room) with the Ivation 70-pint dehumidifier (in foyer) and 1 ceiling fan (dining room) near hot, humid D.C., and it sometimes gets too cold in here :-) Not too heavy, but might get another for bedroom instead of carrying back and forth. Operates pretty quietly, especially the medium and low setting. As with other fans, it just becomes light background noise you don't even notice after a while. As long as its oscillating, haven't had to turn TV up higher (and not an issue when falling asleep with it on). The remote control, however, is a great example of poor Industrial Design. Oval shaped, it fits ok in one hand, but that turns all the text on its side.. and English isn't read from the bottom, up (or from the top, down, if you're a lefty). Text orientation aside, it's very awkward to operate with one hand -- it fits well in the palm of the hand, but to press buttons with your thumb, you have to move it up to lay across the fingers (so the grip as you press is not as strong/stable).. It's easier if you hold it like a game controller, with 2 hands. Which feels/is stupid. Also, you have to use the Temp/Timer button on the tower console *before* you can use the up and down buttons on the remote control to change those settings. Why is there no room for a Temp/Timer button on the remote? Probably the utterly useless flashlight -- which is really hard to use anyway because the button for that is on the bottom of the remote; you can't press the flashlight button without hitting one or more fan buttons on the other side of the remote. I really want to deduct a star for the remote, so, know that my 5 stars is only for the fan itself, I don't even bother with the stupid remote.

I buy things like snow chains and it seems it work best as way to stop the snowing, similarly I bought this during a hot spell and temperatures have now returned to 'normal' so I have not really put it to test but it works as advertised with the one caveat that I was hoping it somehow cooled the air as it blows it around. At this point it looks like a cool fan of sorts with a nice remote and the potential to ionize the air, whatever that means (will google it). When I put my $20 fan next to it to compare the temperature of the 'breeze' from both, there was no discernible difference in temperature so I am kind of skeptical at having spent this kind of price on what appears to be mainly an aesthetic concept piece (like the Dyson?) which is ok because it looks good in the livingroom but I am not entirely convinced we will actually feel cooler during the next hot spell. I give it 3 stars for ok as a fan, but I like the design and for that I can see giving it 4 stars for fitting in nicer than a classic $20 white round fan. I guess I was expecting some kind of additional coolant element to this fan for almost 10 times the price. We'll see, but as I said the purchase alone was worth it because our hot spell disappeared over night and that was my motivation... I knew it would, like leaving the top down on a convertible or washing your car invokes rain! ;-) Next time it will be the thought that counts,

Really great fan. It cools down a large room quickly. I haven't had to put on the air conditioning thus far. The breeze function feels like your in a park with the wind blowing through the trees. Nice!

... read the reviews before I bought this I expected better air circulation and cooling than I perceive
Having read the reviews before I bought this I expected better air circulation and cooling than I perceive. Also assembling it was awkward in that the mid section wouldn't snap together after repeated trials over half an hour, so rather than force & possibly snap the small tabs I just attached the tower to the broad circular base, as suggested for 'better stability'.Leaving the ' hourglass' height extending mid section out of the assembly was suggested in the instructions for 'better stability' but it also minimizes the air flow advantages of having the full height. Given the tower 'shudders' with the 'Breeze' and 'Oscillation' button choices I opted for 'better stability ' and left out the midsection in the assembly.
