Worth every single dime
I am a polymer clay artist. I've heard people rave about these pastels and I've seen what people have done with them regarding polymer clay. However, they are quite expensive so I hesitated for a long time. I just finally got fed up with having to shave low quality stick pastels into a power and inferior pigments and the mess and possible color shift after baking. Long story short- I bought this set as a test, it looks like it had some nice earthy browns and greens and figured it would be a safe color palette. Oh boy am I in trouble. These apply like butter. They are like nothing I've ever used and can be applied with your finger, or the included applicators. So far- I've not noticed any color shifting after baking. The pigment is saturated and it seems to be a very high quality product. While the price is quite high, I feel this is one of those products, depending on how you use it, less it more and they should last a very long time. Keeping in mind my use is on polymer clay- very different from actually drawing or painting with them. I can't wait to add to my collection. Excellent product! I highly recommend this product. It's surprisingly high quality. Definite must have for all artists.

Nice starter set
I'm brand new to pan pastels and love them so far. I'm a watercolorist and I have used these to cover up some things I couldn't fix in watercolors. There is a wide range of colors so you can make many colors from this set. I ordered the colorless blender from PanPastel and that works great too. Would be awesome to include with this set. The price seemed just right. The set included some Sofft tools which was nice to try out. Extra lids would be great as I might want to separate them some time but no biggie. Overall, a nice set to get started with.

Easy to work with, not messy, great color, but what colors will you get?
I LOVE this product. The pastels are very easy to work with. I did not like the stacks so I bought a palette tray, which is perfect. However, I got the wrong colors in this order. As you can see from my pics, I ordered the earth colors with green and yellow and did not get that. I like and will use the colors I got but I really wanted the green and yellow that were supposed to come in the pack. I'm not going to return it, though (why would I send back the awesome colors I did get?). I'm trying to decide if I want to just order the individual colors or order the pack again (2 colors would be duplicated). All that said, working with these is very easy and they are fantastic for patina and antiquing. Update: I have now bought 4 sets and 3 were not all the correct colors. Because I love this product, I don't send anything back because I'll use it. However, I order sets because they have the colors I want - and it's always the colors I want the most that do not end up in the set. I end up spending additional money that should not be spent so I can order individual colors when I don't get what I want. I order from Blick for individuals because they are less expensive. I added pics from other sets I ordered that were wrong.

Pan pastels are excellent if you like the medium
Highly recommend. Arrived safely without damage for those who aren’t familiar with how these come, they are stacked together and there is just one lid covering the top color. I would recommend that you get the tray that holds 10 or 20 depending on your needs so that you don’t need individual lids. The way it is made to store makes it easy to travel with and takes up less space but if you get one of the storage trays, it is like having a pallet of them and you can leave them separate but covered. Also comes with several tools inside , and with practice, you can blend and combine to make many other colors with this set

Pricey but good quality
Good quality and color pallet for my taxidermy projects but a bit on the pricey side and I don’t need most of the colors.

Absolutely love

Unique art medium that is not quite the same as traditional pastel.
I now have completed a few pieces using Panpastel. I will be using this more for underpainting, backgrounds, and base layers. I have found that it's great for loose pastel and impression work. If you want more fine detail, it's very easy to lay pastel pencil (I use Carbothello) or colored pencil over it (Polychromos or Luminance, but it depends a bit on the paper you use). I absolutely love working on Art Spectrum's Colourfix paper with this medium. Others have great success with other papers such as Canson Mi-Tientes (not my favorite... yet). There is benefit to experimenting with different papers for your own style. I tend to fill tooth rather quickly, therefore the sanded papers work better for me. But it's very easy to use and quite forgiving. I also have found that with the sanded papers, I can use the Derwent electric eraser to get some interesting effects too. That was a happy conclusion from trying to fix something I didn't like! I purchased multiple smaller sets rather than buying the whole 80 color set. You can successfully value shop if you will not use all 80. I know I would not use the metallics, therefore bought sets with very little overlap, and filled in the few colors I was missing as individual pans. For value, one pan will go a very long way! I've played with this a lot and have hardly made a dent in the surface. One warning! Be careful about what you use on the surface. I tried experimenting with different sponges. This roughed up the surface of the pans. Not a crisis, but I didn't like the way it effected the Sofft sponges so I ended up smoothing them out again. There are tips online for "repairing" pans.

Pan Pastel
