The Art of Getting Started

Not what I expected
This is an activity book where you mostly complete exercises (drawing or writing) within the book itself. Flipping through, I discovered that a large number of the pages are meant to be drawn on in specific ways. I was not expecting to be drawing and writing inside the book itself, particularly since the small, tightly bound book doesn't seem well designed to be drawn on/in. I also didn't expect so much focus on drawing (which isn't something I regularly do) -- and I thought there would be some general discussion of strategies to help avoid procrastination. While I can understand the intent of the book -- to get you accustomed to diving into creative activities without thinking about it too much and therefore eliminate some of the resistance you might feel when it comes to creative projects -- it's just not what I thought I was buying.

Get through it!
A lot of this book had me wondering why I was doing it and by the end of the book I realized that the more I just did stuff and the less I let my thoughts impact me, the more I would get stuff done. Just do every page!

Creates inspiration for creativity, isn't exactly the best for curbing procrastination
The activities are fun but I didn't buy this book for creative inspiration. I can see how the author tried to create activities that would encourage self-starter behavior but they're not really the best for that kind of goal. The activities seem more oriented towards creative inspiration. I do feel like I wasted my money a bit because I wasn't really interested in fostering creativity, something this book is better suited for.

Artistic Ability NOT Required
I'm a fiction writer, and I love to jump-start my creative day with an exercise or two. I LOVE this little book that's packed with fun and fast creative tasks. Making messes that don't matter is a great way to turn off that pesky internal editor & this book does a fantastic job!Highly recommended for both writers and artists. And wouldn't it be great if teachers used books like this in the classroom? Hint. Hint.

It was a cute book with fun prompts but it's not a self help book in my opinion. It won't help you change procrastination behaviors. It may inspire creativity

a fun way to get started on... well... anything!
This book is so amazing! It's really helping me get over my procrastination habits by simply getting started with little creative things in the book. Love the little worksheets all through it!

Great for inspiration and motivation
Great for inspiration and motivation. This is a really good book, not just for getting your creative side going, but also as a source of motivation dotted throughout the book to get you going. It would help anyone wanting to get their creative side flowing, but also anyone that might be a rut motivational wise as it encourages you to dive in and go. There are also a few pages that require a little bit of writing which are cleverly placed.

Bought as a gift
Bought as a gift for my 18 year-old niece who is struggling with finding her path in life. Initial feed back was great. I haven't heard anything else so can't review the books content further.

LOVE THIS BOOK
Possibly my favourite book I have ever bought. The activities are so engaging and really get the creative juices flowing. I recommend this book to anybody, not just someone trying to start an artistic project but everyone. I was worried that it would all be drawing but it isn't and i just l just love this book. I recommend it, 10/10
