Slide scanner to jpg.
Works great but it takes a long time to insert scan and reject slides. It did capture my slides very good. I scanned 800 slides. Good product.

Ion, photo slide and film scanner. VERY IMPRESSED.
I'm Simply wowed by this, but I think Ion need to update the specs, even on the box it states 5.1mp, but they don't tell you that it is also capable of scanning to 10mp. (it does in the manual though) which is very nice, in these days of PDF's its very nice to get a paper manual to read..... Its easy to use, it comes with a 2gb Sd card in the box, it has 3 photographic plates, and slide and negative attachments. scanning is very simple, just put it in capture mode, press scan and then enter to save, you can even change exposure value in half stop values from +2 to -2. ONE THING, I would sugest when scanning photos putting a thick piece of card behind the photo as the scanner has a very bright lamp Did I say I love this scannner? oh no I didn't I said I was wowed, but I never mentione love... hey I guess I have now.... very nice piece of kit, which should help me keep some memories alive. (and get rid of all my old films) Another thing is even in 10mp scanning mode the scanner only produces scanned images at 1.5mb they should be about 3x larger than that... (my pentax dslr, produces 10mp images that are around 5mb in size) so I'm guessing the unit has a very high compression rate, and some photos will need cleaning up with photoshop or another software program, this in no way (the needing to clean up) detracts from the Units value.... as I believe most people will want to clean their images before they show them. thank you Ion, I like your stuff...

Easy to use, worked as advertised
I bought the Ion PICS2SD scanner to convert slides and photos I inherited from my parents (they took a LOT of photos over the course of 64 years of marriage). In order to share them with my siblings, my parents' family members...digitizing is the only way to go. This device seemed like the best way to go, and I started using it the day I got it. The scans were clear, sharp and it was really simple to make them. I figured out how to load the slides in the tray without even using the instructions, it was so simple to use (and if I can do that, anyone can!). I scanned an entire slide carousel in about an hour, and uploaded it to my PC. It was pictures that my dad had kept from my brother's camera, and my brother had thought them lost. I got to make a gift of them, returning precious memories. What could be better? This scanner is easy to use, and everything in the description up front before I purchased was accurate.

COMPLETE JUNK
I bought this with the hopes of scanning the tons of slides I have from my childhood. The first night, it worked GREAT, the second day, after scanning only 4 slides, the machine locked up and was DONE. It no longer gave me the option to scan ANYTHING. I tried unhooking it from the computer, shutting it off, changing the SD card, NOTHING. I contacted the manufacturer, ION, and spoke with the technical support guy, who was no help at all. He said 'we have never had that happen before' and suggested that I return it to Amazon. I am very disappointed in this product and it is on its way back to Amazon for a refund.

Perfect, easy to use, Highly recommend.
No complaints at all. Easy to use, and have already used it to digitize hundreds of old, old photos. While some complained about needing more frame sizes, I overcame that easily, when I had pictures smaller than the frame by inserting blank photo paper just so it is at the top of the photo to reach to the top of frame, and that holds the picture without falling down and inside the unit. I did have one picture drop inside the unit, and had no problem getting it out. I just inserted a small piece of wood to hold the flap open where the frame is inserted.than turned unit upside down and the picture inside came to the slot, where I used some tweezers to pull it out, with no damage. As far as resolutions, I have no complaint, and being able to adjust darkness or lighten, plus red, green and blue hues is quite handy. I save them on a SD card in unit and will transfer to computer to categorize, that permanently store them on a 128 gb flash drive. I am happy and highly recommend this ION Pics 2 SD Slide and Film Scanner.

Not the best thing I have purchased but will work for my ...
Not the best thing I have purchased but will work for my purposes. Is stand-alone "camera in a box" and came with an SD card so you can do a bunch of pictures before you download to a computer (either by reading the SD card or by plugging in the device, which then acts like a thumbdrive.) The device also has a small internal memory which can maybe hold about 20 or so pix -- note that this memory is "hidden" if an SD card is inserted. Overall comment -- the device "crops" your pictures assuming a 1/4" border and slides/negs assuming typical slide-mount. Also while the device can do some color/brightness adjustment your software on your computer may be better and easier -- I just adjusted enough to get it most of the way and make sure all colors were there, then used the computer to finish. For slides -- holder is a bit cumbersome but works as long as you don't try to "back it up". Seems to do a good job, can do some minor color or exposure correction using the tiny screen (screen's main use is to center your picture). Will magnify all flaws, scratches, and dirt on the slides so prep them well. Not sure higher resolution mode will buy you much. For negatives -- seems to do a reasonable job of "inverting", but you might need to do some adjustment. Same caveat re scratches and dirt. Also note that old negatives may have shifted in color (like old fotos) For photos -- here found a design issue. Some light reflects off the picture being photographed and "illuminates" the internals of the machine, which then might affect your image. Most pictures (especially pictures with lots of color and busy background, like crowds, etc) come through fine, but on pictures with lots of dark AND some light you will see either a "loss of contrast" (darks not as dark) with matte finish photos or actual circular shadows (reflections of camera lens and surrounding structure) on glossy prints. In some cases this can be "tuned out" by playing with the exposure settings -- darken the photo and the reflection will be reduced on glossies and virtually disappear on mattes. But a few pictures might be challenging. Again an issue with only some photos and glossy finished with very dark areas are most likely to see this. (At some point I might get ambitious enough to open this thing very carefully and see if I can add some black flocking to reduce this effect, but right now am living with it.) Otherwise does a decent job and was able to save some old fotos. And it is easier to use than a scanner, especially with smaller prints Off-size slides/negs -- will at some point try to build a Carrier: for some half-frame and 110's I have -- should not be too difficult to do. Also have a few 126's; will try to deal with those but here will have to give up some edge I think as device designed for 35mm slides/negs. Off-size fotos and borderless fotos. -- for 5x7 it will crop. For 4x6 or 3x5 try setting the device for the next size up (use 5x7 setting for 4x6 in the 4x6 frame) -- you will get some edges that you will have to crop off with other software but at least you will get 98% of teh pix. For fotos other than that size -- often these can be carefully inserted in a carrier along one side and as long as you are gentle and there is no foto curl you can probably slip these in and out without them falling out. If in doubt try sticking a little tape on the loose corner to hold the pix in place. Oh, and suggest you cut some 3x5/4x6/5x7 rectangles of flat black paper or poster as the picture holders have a glossy back (note comment about lens reflection above). Have had good success with these tricks (have many off-size fotos), just be slow and patient. Note that some processors cut prints a smidge wide -- here the processor is at fault, not the device. If the picture is hard to put in either trim it or consider using the next-size-up frame and treating it like an off-size. I intend to keep the device and use it. Will write back if I succeed in opening it up and improving the reflection issue, but that may be several months from now.

I've been using this same scanner that a friend let me borrow
I wish I knew how well it worked before I paid the $25 postage for him to send it to me. It scans a slide instantly, no lag in time, scans directly to an SD card. It fits my over-sized glass mount slides that sometimes jammed up my slide projector. The quality of the scanned images are great, color is accurate, sharpness is perfect. I have not used it for photos yet, but will be using it for that purpose too; I expect good results. I'm very happy with this product, so I ordered one for myself and am sending my friend's on to another friend for him to use... maybe he'll reimburse me for postage too? :-) I held off buying a slide scanner for years, waiting for the technology to improve, because I have thousands of images to scan and the scanners used to be very slow .... I would say this is IT, and I'm glad I waited for it. I had an application on my iPad watching for a price drop to below $180, and when notified it had done so, I was pleased to get it as low as $149!

You get what you pay for (maybe)
Ordered this photo/slide/film scanner for my wife for Christmas so that we could begin scanning in a huge backlog of slides, negatives, and photos. We opened it on Christmas day and I started playing with it that night. Photo Tray: First observation is that the build quality of the casing and the photo trays (more on this in a moment) is very cheap in feel. I'm not one to expect a studio lab for the price, so this initially did not bother me. The photo trays however are the worst designed and poorly thought out part. Since we are scanning photos that date back to 1968 and further, they do not fall in the standard 4x6, 3x5, etc sizes that the tray are "designed" to work with. What's worse, is that if you decide to drop in a photo into the tray that is smaller than the tray, it just falls inside the scanner! Removing a photo that is laying face down at the bottom of the scanner proved pretty difficult, and you end up having to shake the entire scanner around in an effort to get the dang photo back out! It couldn't have cost the manufacturer too much more money to put a plastic sheeting in front of each photo tray so that the photos wouldn't fall out. Photo "Scanning" Quality: It claimed a higher MP rating than my 4 year old scanner however it's basically a digital camera in a light box. I was amused how quickly the "scan" took. Imagine just taking a picture with a point-and-shoot, that's all it does. I did a side-by-side comparison with an old 1968 photo using this device and my old scanner. I noticed that the color temperature/hues differed quite significantly between the flatbed scanner and this device, however my old flatbed was quite a bit sharper than this one. There appeared to be no settings to change any scanning features aside from exposure and cropping. If you plan on using this device primarily for scanning photos, I'd say MOVE ON. There is no bulk feeding and you have to pop each one in one by one manually. Slide/Film "Scanning" Quality: Fortunately, the slide/film scanning was a much better experience. You basically load up the film or slide tray, push them through picture-by-picture, hit 'scan' and 'enter' and move on. You can do 4 slides or 6 negatives in under 15 seconds, and the quality was better than I was expecting. For my wife and I, I think the fact that we have enough slides and negatives to keep us busy on this device, that we may consider keeping it. I'm still on the fence, as I feel ripped off on the awful build quality of the photo scanner itself.

Check out common problem - scanner not recognising SD card
I purchased for ease of sharing after scanning to SD card, initially worked fine. However on its second use it failed to see the SD card. I tried reformatting, different cards, then googled to find this is a common issue. You are forced to save scans to the devices memory, which is full after scanning 8 film negatives, then transfer via usb to computer. A long and tedious process when trying to archive a batch of negatives, especially as each new set of 8 files has same file names as previous set and needs to be renamed before saving. Do your research, avoid.
